This book was so stinking cute! It was such a lovely story about a little ghost who thinks he's too different to fit in! The little ghost can't fly as well as the other ghosts, because he's a quilt instead of a sheet, so he's heavier. Such a charming story about embracing your own uniqueness! The illustrations in this book were amazing and so cute! The story is simple, but impactful and I've never read something quite like it!

I read this last year (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3539850242), and it was a delight coming back to this short, sweet story again.
A young ghost is a little sad because he's a quilt, instead of a sheet. This sets him apart, and makes him feel sad, and left out of ghost activities, like flying through the air, hiding in plain sight, and other things, too.
On a Halloween night, he gets a chance to help a little girl, and finally feels useful, and this transforms his perception of himself.
This is a sweet story with an adorable main character. I loved the designs on each little square of his quilt, and his small but meaningful journey he goes on that changes his outlook and enables him to connect with other ghosts.
The story is charming, as are the illustrations. Mostly monochromatic, except for the ghost, the sepia-toned artwork forms a great backdrop to the initially isolated ghost watching the life around him, and also is great at hinting at the spookiness of a tale about a ghost. I enjoyed this story all over again, and look forward to more adventures for the ghost who is a quilt.
Thank you to Netgalley and to Tundra Book Group for this ARC in exchange for my review.
Such a lovely story about not quite fitting in or being a little bit different in a way that makes things a challenge. This book was beautifully illustrated and had such a well-structured message that it would be hard to find anything to complain about. Little Ghost starts the book sad and lonely, watching as everyone does things that he just can't because his quilt is just so heavy. And then he had an adventure that no one else has ever had, and it makes his difference into a positive, something that results in Little Ghost having a story to tell all his friends. I loved that his adventure also involved caring and helping others.
All in all, this book has such a great message and is a lovely bedtime read for a toddler and early reader.
This was so sweet, adorable, and charming... Like a warm quilt for your heart. A lovely story about being proud of who you are, even - especially - when you're different from anyone around you. Sweet story with wonderful illustrations.
Not me requesting a children’s book arc at the age of 29. But seriously the cover and title were just so cute I couldn’t resist
I adored this sweet picture book about a ghost who's a little different. In the end, it's those differences that lead him on an incredible adventure. The book is full of gorgeous illustrations that bring the story to life. Definitely a great one to share with little ones.
A delightful Halloween tale! This charming ghost discovers his uniqueness and learns to embrace it in the sweetest way. Plus, the illustrations are fabulous!!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!
Very beautiful book about being different than everyone around you. A little repetitive but the art makes it a nice journey.
This is such a beautiful story to read all through the year, a wonderful reminder for kids that even if they feel different from everyone else, they're still important and beautiful. I look forward to recommending this to my library families!
What a sweet cozy story! I will definitely be gifting this to the spooky cute book lovers in my life when it comes out in the gift edition.
Thank you NetGalley, Tundra books, and Riel Nason for the digital copy of The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt - Gift Edition.
The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt is the story of a ghost who was a quilt and felt different from the ghost that are sheets. Being a quilt ghost comes with its own difficulties, but when an unexpected event happens, the quilt ghost feels lucky to be themselves.
The illustrations are beautiful and engaging to young readers. The story can be used as a great tool to teach to love yourself, how to treat others, and overcoming fear.
Little Ghost is sad. Instead of being made of a sheet like all the other ghosts he knows, he is made of a quilt. This keeps him from being able to do some of this things the other ghosts can. That's until one Halloween, where an unexpected event takes him on an adventure he never imagined, all because he happens to be a quilt! The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt is a sweet Halloween season book about how our differences make us special and learning how to embrace these differences within ourselves. The illustrations are beautiful and help to clearly show what is happening in the story. This is definitely a book I'll put in our spooky season rotation!

"The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt" is a charming, heartfelt story that illustrates for kids the value in differences. A little ghost struggles with feelings of being different and strange because he is made of a quilt rather than a regular white sheet. My grandson is just the age where he loves to wear a blanket and try to scare us, and this imaginative take on the story of a ghost will be one we read throughout the year. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. Pub Date: July 1, 2025.

My kids and I loved this book. The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt by Riel Nason is a heartwarming and creative tale that flips a traditional ghost story on its head. This charming book follows a little ghost who struggles with feeling different because he’s made of a cozy quilt instead of a classic sheet. The story explores themes of self-acceptance and celebrating uniqueness. With vivid, whimsical illustrations and a tender narrative, it’s a great read for children and adults alike. An instant classic in the making! My children keep asking me to read it again and again.
A delightful story about being different, finding acceptance and a place in the world just the way you are—all while being a lovely Halloween-friendly read. Not wanting to be different, the little quilt ghost is teased and misses out on connection with his family, but tries to be involved and loves Halloween. The little ghost quilt, because he is slow and heavy, finds himself closer to humans. And in this closeness, he finds strangers who show him love and acceptance. A little girl out trick-or-treating is cold and takes him home to her Halloween-filled home, where he is loved and appreciated for exactly who he is for a moment before flying with an ease he did not have before because he is happy and accepted. The little quilt ghost gains an experience that his friends were not able to have, not in spite of being different, but because he is different. This story is warm, inviting and shares an invitation to accept yourself and seek adventures that are tailored just to you. This story is part of our regular rotation, and each reading is a lovely journey. In any edition, this book is a great addition to any library looking for more Halloween stories, and more stories about being different and loving who you are, just the way you are.
This was such a heartwarming story and the attention to detail in the illustrations was 10/10. I found myself smiling as the story went along and I paused on each page to really look at the art.
This cute picture book is about a ghost made from a quilt instead of a sheet.
A story of self-confidence, acceptance, and self-love this gorgeous book is a fantastic addition to any collection. The strong SEL tie-in will help make this a fantastic book for schools, libraries, and personal collections.

This (Canadian made) children's picture book is not just for the Hallowe'en season. It's perfect for anytime of year as it's about being different from others.
Our little quilt child is surrounded by family members who are sheets; and so much lighter than he. Instead of being able to fly all around, our quilt has to lay in places, walk about, and find vantage points to lay down to see what's happening. Riel Nason has given us a clever way to explain that everyone is a little different; even if it seems like we are the only one.
The illustrations are perfect. A little haunting but not scary in any way. Instead they have just a bit of melancholy that I think comes from the subdued colours chosen.
I would highly recommend this children's picture book for any child from any walk of life. We all feel singled out or excluded for whatever reason at some point and this book beautifully demonstrates how being different isn't always a bad thing.
I have bought this book numerous times for little ones. I’m so excited to see this special gift edition come out so I can add it to my own shelf and keep on gifting it out to new little ones in my life.
Please note: I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is an honest and unbiased review.
Do I have children? No. Did I request this adorable little book anyway? Absolutely. This book is absolutely a top tier children's book.
The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt by Riel Nason tells the story of a little Ghost who is just a bit different from his little ghost friends. Instead of being made of a sheet, he is a quilt! He wants to be just like his friends. But one Halloween, the little Ghost finds his differences may not be so bad.
The art of this little book is immaculate, and I think little ones will clearly enjoy the story told, and so will their parents. This doesn't even need to be just a Halloween treat, it can be read all year long!
I highly recommend this book for all readers. Its too cute to pass up!
I would like to thank NetGalley and Tundra Books for the advanced reader copy!
This book is utterly adorable! While this book was pretty simple, it still had an impact and succeeded in being a great book. I thought that this book subtly but nicely conveyed its central message: despite our differences, all of us still have our talents/purposes. I really liked the Halloween theme of this book, and it worked really well. Additionally, the illustrations were what I would call "creepy-cute". The illustrator used dark and gloomy colors, but made details so amazingly adorable. This juxtaposition worked beautifully throughout the entire book, and I really enjoyed seeing it.
All in all, this book was very well-done and I enjoyed reading it!
