An interesting series with a chilling look at what could happen. The fall of society and loss of humanity and the dark side of man when law and order ends, really makes you think. A good series for the sci-fi fan.

Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Molly, Colton, and five students are visiting a prison when the unexpected happens, throwing the nation into complete chaos.

These books are typical Hamilton, meaning that they are well-written and sort of grim. Grim makes sense because the world as we know it has changed into a dark and lawless place. The reader senses that there may not be a happy ending for everyone, and how happy can it be when the world as we knew it no longer exists?

An EMP devastates the world. And the battle for survival begins…

When a powerful EMP blast knocks out power across the country, schoolteacher Molly, former Marine Colton, and the five students they’re supervising on a trip are trapped inside a prison. Surrounded by hardened criminals and with no safe exit, it doesn’t take long for a riot to throw everything into chaos.

Meanwhile, Deb, Colton’s ex-wife, is lucky enough to fall in with a group of determined survivors. But her good fortune quickly turns into a nightmare when her people are captured by human traffickers, led by a vicious madman.

Molly and Colton must escape to safety with their students, while Deb is forced to lead her fellow survivors in a daring revolt. But in this savage new world, danger lurks around every corner. Is there any hope for safety as what’s left of society collapses?

Loyalties are tested, new bonds are forged, and survival is a daily battle in this dying world.

This boxset contains books 1-6 of the Dark Nation series, a thrilling post-apocalyptic EMP saga.
I'm a bit of a sucker for EMP stories. It's a fascinating way to strip away everything we're used to and get to what's really important in life. It brings people to the brink and forces them into decisions they'd never have to make in normal life.

In case you weren’t sure, an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) is a burst of energy that can potentially disrupt or damage electrical and electronic systems. Anything powered by electricity, from computers and phones to lights and cars, can be vulnerable. (While experts are still arguing about the precise extent of the damage and the duration of the effects - due to the lack of real-world testing - stories like this typically assume that most devices with a power source could be affected.)

In this particular series, some of the characters are 'preppers' - people who prepare for extreme circumstances - while others work in tech, and so are able to explain to the other characters what's happening and just how bad things are likely to get. Each character reacts in a different way, reflecting what would likely happen in real life.

There's some useful information in here, things about what's important when the power's out and how to take care of yourself and so on, but it doesn't slow the pace of the story. Although this is six books in one, it flew by, with characters moving quickly from one situation to the next.

This is a great read, but be warned - you may be sucked into this intriguing genre and find yourself looking for more to learn!

Book Recommendation: The classic in this genre is One Second After, a novel published in 2009 that describes the effects of an EMP on a small town in Colorado.

TV Recommendation: The series Jericho depicts a town in Kansas that suffers an EMP as a side effect of a nuclear attack on a nearby city. The series shows how different people adapt to their new circumstances.

Well done! This was not only my first read by this Author but my first experience with the EMP genre. I'm definitely a fan. The story just keeps you glued to the pages. Now I am encouraged to read The Stand. A book by my favorite author that I have avoided because of the serious nature. But I think Mrs. Hamilton has convinced me. I was on the edge of my seat. The only thing stopping a 5 star is that I want somewhere to go in case this isn't her best work. Time to dive into the back list! Definitely Recommend

For fans of EMP dystopian fiction, this set is a winner! The story follows teacher, Molly, and the chosen family she finds along the way. Molly and a group of at-risk students are in the middle of a scared-straight prison tour when an EMP hits and the power goes out. Molly and her charges are thrown into a harrowing scenario, but eventually escape the prison, only to realize that life outside the prison may be more dangerous. An assortment of parents/community members have to find their own ways to survive the aftermath. Interesting story lines, various triumphs over adversity lead to an interesting journey for fans of the genre of fiction.

I actively seek out new "end of the world as we know it" authors and series. I discovered Grace Hamilton many years ago and have read most.....if not all.....of her books. She is a prolific author, having penned many series, all on apocalyptic aftermaths and the good vs bad characters you find in any thriller. BUT, even though she's written many a dark and gloomy tale, each series is unique. Each set of characters is unique. She doesn't recycle her previous books. This makes Grace Hamilton one of about a dozen authors of differing genre that I follow on FB to make sure I know when a new book releases. This box set contains all 6 of the Dark Nation books. So you can start and finish the series without having to wait for the next book to be released!
The best thing about Grace Hamilton's books.....should there be an EMP in my future, I'd know what to do to kick the bad guys to the curb!
5 stars.....again.

I really liked the trilogy of stories that were included in this volume (unfortunately books 4-6 were not included). The story was good, as was the pacing and the twist at the end of volumes 1 and 2 made me want to read more. I would have liked to have had the full series, but that is my only real complaint.
