This was a GREAT story to listen to! AWESOME narration! Great main characters. The plot was easy to find. The story was engaging and easy to follow. Will be purchasing this book. Shout out to Netgalley and publishing for allowing me to listen and review this story.
4 STARS!
This book dragged a bit and I'm not sure I understand why the dude took the girl? I wasn't convinced there was a valid connection to do something that extreme...
Wow!! This one was amazing! Several plot twists that shocked me and I don’t say that often. I listened to the audiobook (in less than a day!) and the narrator was fantastic! Highly recommend this one, quick read and a well written suspense.
This thriller was gripping, suspenseful, and very realistic. The emotions I felt when the mother lost her daughter was all too real. I also really enjoyed the plot twist! I definitely wasn't expecting it. Although I did enjoy the story, there were some parts of the book that fell a little flat for me and dragged a bit. I also wasn't a fan of too many POVs. Overall, this was a great story and the audio was very enjoyable. Give this a read if you're looking for a quick thriller!
Thank you Brilliance Publishing and Netgalley for a copy of this ALC in exchange for my honest review.
This was a wild ride. I am adding it to my book club must read list. From the start it was gripping and kept twisting and turning. The writing style was exploding. I had to cancel plans just so I could finish.
In this book, private investigator Matthew Hill's daughter goes missing while out shopping with her mom. One minute she's there, and the next minute she is nowhere to be found. At the same time, Matthew is in a meeting with a potential client who wants to hire him to find her mother. Matthew has to cut that meeting short as he receives the call from his wife, and from that point on, of course the hunt is nonstop to find their missing daughter. Matthew, also a former cop, puts in a call to a detective friend of his, who ultimately ends up leading the case in the search for the missing girl. The pacing is pretty steady, with a few slower sections where we get a little background on some of the main players in the book, including Matthew's wife and the detective in charge of the investigation. We also get a glimpse into Matthew's time as a cop and how a situation that occurred while he was a cop may be the reason why his daughter has gone missing. Overall, the book was well paced and the character development was good. The build up was tense and it was difficult to decide who was behind the little girl being taken, why she was taken, and what the outcome would be.
What a fantastic read! Matthew Hill, an ex-police officer and current PI, is in the middle of taking on a new client when he gets a phone call saying that his daughter is missing, every parent’s nightmare. He drops everything and heads to town where his wife Sally is distraught. Is it random? Is it a previous case of his? There are no traces of his daughter, Amelie. There were many twists and turns that came out of nowhere. As the reader, you see both sides of the story slowly develop through current time and flashbacks. I kept saying “look here” to the team that was on the case to discover what happened and where she went. I couldn’t stop listening to this amazingly done audiobook. I had to know what happened next. If you are looking for a fast-paced suspenseful read that keeps you on the edge of your seat, then this one is for you!
Close Your Eyes was a fantastic thriller. I liked the pacing and flow of the story. I liked most of the characters and that ending blew me away. I will be recommending this audiobook.
Wow! This book was a wild ride full of suspense, twists and turns. I love a good mystery that keeps your attention until the very end!
This was a very slow read. For it to be a Thriller it took 5 out of the 8 hours for something to really start happening. The side storylines and information dragged making me want to rush through it but I also wanted to find out how it would end
I found it very similar to an actual investigation. Small bits and slowly revealing the bigger picture. Some characters or their actions were insufferable. Olivia and Sally specifically, but i really enjoyed Melani’s POV.
The ending felt like it came all at once especially after very little happened in the book, it felt rushed. The ending was a partial shock, but I was so busy focusing on the main plot I didn’t pay attention to the side characters.
Overall it was a decent read for those into slower pace thrillers. Wasn’t shocking or left me hanging in every word but I stuck aiding for the overall story and plot resolution.
When you are in the business of finding missing persons, you’d expect to have a leg up if your own child is taken. In this case, Matthew is so blinded by an earlier episode in his life that he jumps to conclusions that cost him dearly. He is a PI about to rejoin the police force, with an oddly fragile wife who may not be able to forgive him, or herself. The policing part of this story is very thorough, exposing all the tedious tasks that need to be checked off, friends and neighbors to be alibied, and random leads to be run down. I found it strange that there was no discussion anywhere about a ransom, if only to rule it out. Otherwise a thorough and interesting police procedural.
My thanks to the author, publisher, @BrillianceAudio, and #NetGalley for access to the audiobook of #CloseYourEyes for review purposes. The book and audiobook are now available.
This book had so many turns it left my head spinning! I was wrong on who actually had the child amd everything
Super great ride! I was all up in the story! I was almost disappointed in the ending because I just knew it wasn't a good ending!!!
This was such a good book. I loved the story and the writing so much. The characters were great and the story flowed smoothly. Will definitely read more books by this author in the future.
I am not sure what it was about this book that made me keep speeding up the time so it would go faster. I think perhaps since the mystery itself was revealed to the reader early in the book and it was not solved by the crime's victims until later. I just couldn't wait for the characters to discover who took their daughter. THeme of toxic theology and religious and cultural trauma. Audiobook narrator uses a british accent and the pacing of the mystery just didn't work for me. This one was a miss for me.
