This book is a why choose, with an interesting plot. I really enjoyed the overall storyline which had a really interesting take on the garden of Eden/Hell & heaven. Sometimes some books can have a bit more spice than plot which I would have preferred there to be a good balance. If you love devils/angels books with a lot of spice this book will be right up your street.
I read this as an ARC! What an incredible story! From start to finish, I was completely captivated. The characters were fantastic, and the world-building was both creative and unforgettable. This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster—blending humor, tension, and just the right amount of spice. I couldn’t put it down!
**Thank you to NetGalley and to Kayne Publishing for an ARC copy to review.**
I am starting off this review by saying that I ended up DNF’ing around the 70% mark.
The premise is what had me interested in this book to begin with - angels, demons, Why choose?? Count me in. However I had a few issues in regards to the execution.
First of all, I actually enjoyed the writing - I don’t have much to say against it. You can tell this isn’t the first book that the author wrote. The storyline progresses relatively seamlessly. However, I struggled with the world building - so much information is thrown our way that it’s hard to figure out what is actually happening - all this talk about prophesies, sacrifices, different realms, as well as the large array of characters just confused me. Apart from that, the world building fell flat for me.
I couldn’t personally connect with the FMC or either MMC - I just feel like they would need to be fleshed out more; at this stage, I have no idea what they’re meant to look like and the FMC got more meek and frightened of her powers as the book progressed which I’m not a fan of personally. Also the connection of the FMC to the MMCs feels quite rushed and not well developed? It just seemed like she jumped on them both literally with complete disregard for the other. She also states that Slade became her close friend, and I believe that happened within the space of a week. I would’ve just liked more build up and tension. ON TOP OF THAT, I feel like so many situations where reactions or emotions should be running high were entirely glossed over.
Asmodeus is depicted as being this broody, rough, dark demon but he isn’t at all - he might as well be a mortal with how soft he actually is; none of his actions match what he is in the majority of ways (except the spice scenes). Same with Michael - he was randomly introduced without much back story and she just folds for him like a lawn chair??
The story itself had good premise and I was VERY excited to see what it had in store when I began reading. Unfortunately that is where it ends for me; I just feel like the execution felt a bit flat. In my opinion, a glossary would be useful or even a map, just to keep on top of all the different creatures that are introduced throughout the book.
I think there is definitely a target audience for this book and I'm just not it. Three stars for the idea, I can’t give it less because the potential is there!
Sanctum is my first book from this author, and it won't be my last. This was not a short read at all, but it was one that was interesting and kept me hooked the entire story. I devoured this book within 2 days and was not ready for it to end at all, and the author left us with I would call an open ending or an ending for now. We get an ending that leaves us satisfied but at the same time, when it comes to the story as a whole leaves us needing more of Lily, Asmodeus, Michael (the main characters), and Bowie, Hecate, Slade, Ragnar, Moros and the rest of the gang. I don't want to give anything away, but I think all paranormal lovers will enjoy this story in some way. It has demons, angels, sex demons, hellhounds, soul hunters, shapeshifters, ancients, the firsts beasts, the fates, synergies, humans, and so much more. As I mentioned before this is a long story but there is never a dull moment. This story is full of shocking and jaw dropping secrets, surprises, twists and turns, betrayal, action, adventure, death, life, prophecies, destiny and much, much, more. I hope the author decides to give us more of Lily, Asmodeus and Michael's story even if it leads into Hecate's own story, but I would absolutely love more of them because even though we got an ending for now I feel as if their ending in a way is just their beginning for them. Anyways, with that being said this was a great story and I'm excited to see what this author writes next when it comes to the books or characters in this series/world.
Starting this by stating that I am DNFing this book.
There were some aspects I really liked about this book such as the Why Choose, demons and angels and found family. I really wasn't connecting with the FMC and the love and spice between the MC's felt rushed and impersonal which was hard for my to get past. I liked both MMC's and the tension they had but the FMC missed the mark for me. I do hope Sanctum by Luna Kayne has a great launch in February and I wish this author all the best!
I felt it was a little slow to start, but I enjoyed the world and the plot of the book. Spicy why choose. I felt like there's so much going on in the beginning that it's hard to get through all of the details and learn who is who. Maybe if it was a little less complicated to get going but it was still fun and it all made it more interesting.
A complex, spicy, why-choose that will have you on the edge of your seat.
This book was entertaining from start to finish. I haven't ever really considered myself a "why-choose" girl, but after this book I'm rethinking! It was so well done! I also really love the angle of her love interests being a literal angel and demon...as well as the point that not everyone is just one specific thing.
The world here was complex and built very nicely. The readers are just as lost as Lily and so we get to learn as she learns. The information comes organically and it never feels like an info dump.
I am so intrigued to see where how this story continues. There are a lot of possibilities here, and there are more characters that I'd love to explore!
Overall: recommend
Spice: open door
2/5 Stars
I wanted to like Sanctum—the premise is cool, the stakes are high, and who doesn’t love a celestial throwdown? But alas, it just didn’t work for me.
First off, the writing felt juvenile, like it got stuck in YA purgatory but didn’t have the self-awareness to ask for directions. The characters are supposed to be battling for the fate of existence, yet they mostly just bicker like contestants on a supernatural reality show. (Coming this fall: Hell’s Got Talent!)
Then there’s Lily. Poor, sweet, “chosen one” Lily. She’s thrust into this epic battle of good and evil, but her main personality trait seems to be… accidentally important. She’s the key to saving the realms, but half the time she’s giving “deer in headlights” energy while everyone else exposits at her like they’re narrating a Netflix recap.
The angel and demon hate each other, which should have given us some juicy enemies-to-reluctant-allies banter, but instead, it’s like watching two middle managers argue over who forgot to bring the coffee to the meeting.
I’ll give credit where it’s due—the world-building has potential, but it never quite takes off. It’s like someone told the author, “Go big or go home,” and they shot for “big” but forgot to pack the details that make it believable.
Overall, it’s not a terrible book; it’s just not for me. If you love chosen-one prophecies, celestial wars, and don’t mind a little melodrama, this could be your jam. As for me? I’ll be over here praying for better dialogue.
Firstly thank you to Luna Kayne, Kayne Publishing and Net Galley for giving me the opportunity to read the Sanctum eARC.
Wow. What a book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading Sanctum. The book starts with our FMC Lily, who manages to wander directly into the Underworld at 6 years of age and meet Asmodeus, an archdemon. Then we meet Lily as an adult and follow her and Asmodeus as their stories continue. I was hooked right from the start.
The book is so well paced and the plot is fantastic. I didn’t see any of the major twists coming and it was so well written that the reveals slowly pieced together the bigger picture which I loved.
The characters are beautifully written and the dialogue between them flows so easily. Every one of them had chemistry with each other and just worked together so well. Found family is a big element of Sanctum which is always a big hit with me. I found myself hugely invested in the stories and the fate in all of the characters, not just our main ones. We also get 3 main POVs which worked really well.
In short, I loved Sanctum. This is the first book I’ve read by Luna Kayne but I will definitely be reading more. Hoping and praying there will be more Primordial Lands novels as I would love to read about some of the other characters (Bowie please!!!)
If you love found family, romance with some spice, Heaven vs Hell, magic, angels and demons, prophecy and a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat, you need to get Sanctum on your TBR!
Thank you NetGalley for this e-arc
First let me say I love the idea of this book. The spice is definitely there 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️. Little too much spice for my liking. The why chose aspect of the book was different and I liked it. I do feel the explicit content of this book kind of over ran the story. The world building could have been better. I liked the several different POV. Also the first half of the book I felt like I was missing something. I was very confused. But those questions and missing pieces were eventually answered. Over all I liked the book but just wish more was done with the story.
A darkly addictive fantasy story with a brilliant take on ArchDemons, ArchAngels and The Garden of Eden. If you like the balance of evil and good, dark and light and think the Uderworld would be a sexy place to be, welcome to the world of Sanctum. Asmodeus will forever have my heart, and the tenderness of Lily and Asmodeus really did have my heart for a while. The why choose element of this is fairly predictable but very much enjoyable and Michael's POV chapters were some of my favourites. Lily being thrust into a cosmic battle for peace with monumental stakes and demons vs angels clashing in an prophetic war was just far too good to put down. The themes of trust, forgotten family, forbidden love and woven richly through the story. Emotionally charged, deeply prophetic and addictive from start to finish.
This book was amazing!! It had me hooked from the start. The storyline was so well written and I fell in love with the characters. That cliffhanger though?! I NEED BOOK 2!!
I especially loved how the two main characters worked out their issues with one another just to keep the fmc happy I was routing for them both! Who would of known a Demon and Angel could work together?! I'm 100% going to reread this on my kindle 😍
If you love fantasy this is a must read!!
🌶️🌶️🌶️
Overall the book had a decent plot that was interesting. I did find it slightly slow to start for me. I did have a hard time getting hooked but I did think it had a good base. I do wish there was more world building at the start.
If you like stories about Heaven and Hell, Demons and Angels, and humans coming to save then this is a perfect book for you.
I did really enjoy the characters and learning more about them, especially Lily with her upbringing. I do think there is a lot of good plot to this book. I would love to just see some more world building.
I was really excited about this story, and I believe it did have great potential. I enjoyed the why choose trope, and the how the story had a religious aspect. However, the execution for me fell flat.
I didn’t really particularly like any of the characters to be honest, and there was very weak world building. I found myself to be really confused about what was going on half of the time.
There was a lot of telling, rather than showing.
I personally don’t love the insta-love trope. I mean, I knew it was bad when I saw the phrase “it’s been a hot minute since..” in the book. I really didn’t need to know every single thought in the characters’ head.
Honestly, I skimmed the last 20% of the book.
Overall, I’m just not a fan of the writing style, and I still don’t really know what really happened.
Sanctum was such an interesting read! It blended fantasy, religion, and had a solid amount of spice. It was very plot heavy with spice included, which I think made for a much more interesting read. I loved the characters, each of them individually and them as a whole. Loved the found family. And I love that the ending didn’t feel hurried or thrown together. I can’t wait to reread it so I can annotate and take a closer look!
4,25/5 stars
I loved this very much!
Both the writing and world building were easy to follow. I just couldn't stop reading this, I was hooked from the very beginning.
Usually I'm not a why choose reader but I liked it in this story a lot. The relationship between the fmc and both mc's felt realistic and well developed. Personally I am team demon, but I liked and felt for the angel too. I also liked the spice between both pairings and all of them together.
I also liked all the religion references throughout the book. It fitted the overall story very well and I think those were used very well to give more depth to the story.
I know for sure I'll be rereading this one in the future, but I do hope to get back to these characters and their story some time in the future in the form of new book(s).
Great book!
I love the cover of the book. It would look amazing on a bookshelf.
There's a lot of depth to the characters which I enjoyed. The main character is sometimes annoying but I can get over it. The plot is nice and refreshing. I did skip over some of the nsfw parts cause it was a tiny bit boring. But overall it was really good. Would recommend!
Sanctum was an interesting book that follows Lily in a why chose romance with devils and angels. I really enjoyed the overall plot of the story and the interesting take on the garden of Eden/heaven/hell.
This book did start out a bit slow for me and I almost wish there was more world building and more insight in some places that were shaping the major plot points. The last 25% of the book really picked up for me and I couldn’t put it down as I was anxious to find out if she would fulfill the prophecy.
There is definitely spice in this book (the author mentions it’s why chose). I enjoyed the plot enough that I would have preferred less spice and more action for the book. I would be interested in reading more by this author especially if she decides to continue this story.
I would recommend this book especially if you like a new spin on devils/angels. I’d give this book 3.5 ⭐️.
Thanks to NetGalley and Luna Kayne for the ARC!
I really enjoyed this book, it had me hooked from the start, I managed to finish this book in a few days, the story, the characters everything flowed so well together.
I felt captivated by the story from the first few pages, I do enjoy books with this type of vibe, the whole demons, hellhounds and much more to keep you invested in this!
Not a dull moment in this book! Highly recommend.
I'm a fool for a 'why choose' but sadly this one fell a little flat. I loved our male characters, and I started out liking our FMC but sis fell off a bit. I couldn't feel their chemistry, so it was hard for me to get invested. I really loved the premise though and would love to check out future books.
