This was a great book!! it was full of lots of twists and turns, and it had so much going on! I did like how it was tense and suspenseful and made you feel like you were on the edge of the seat waiting to see what was going to happen next. I liked it a lot!!!
Thank you to NetGalley, to the author, and to the publisher for this complementary ARC in exchange for my honest review!!!
Gregg Dunnett's earlier book, The Cove, left me struck by his writing talent. The story saw the introduction of his character, police officer Erica Sands, whose choice of career was directly informed by the experience of being raised by a serial killer for a father.
The latest installment in the saga is a propulsive. compelling read, which I enjoyed enormously. When Erica's father, Charles Sterling, escapes from prison and subsequently dies of cancer at a clinic in Vietnam, he leaves his fortune and a letter for his daughter.
But with his body having been cremated, Erica is not entirely convinced that the murderous Sterling has finally gone to meet his maker. After extensive investigation seems to indicate that this is indeed the case, Erica is left out in the cold, since the police consider the case officially closed.
A parallel storyline in the novel involves something similar to the WikiLeaks experience and centres around two French journalists at the Le Monde newspaper who are writing up the scoop of a lifetime before an Italian crime family exposed in the leaks gets to them. That isn't the only danger they face, though...
While some suspension of disbelief is required to enjoy this tale, the loose ends are tied together neatly at the finale, and my only complaint about the story - and I will admit to being very disgruntled indeed - is that it ends on a cliff hanger. Bring on the next instalment, please!
Excellent series! This is the 3rd book in the Erica Sands series. This time she finds out her serial killer father has passed away. But Erica knows her father did he fake his death? She is the only one who believes this and she won't stop til she hunts him down. Love this series it's the perfect amount of mystery and suspense!!
If only Sterling would depart Ericas life for good!
Another edge of seat read as Erica, who just cannot believe her serial killer father is dead, chases ghosts through Europe and beyond to try and track him down, jeopardising her career and her team along the way.
Really needs to be read as part of the series to get the full background, emotional turmoil and obsession that Erica carries.
Book Three of the Erica Sands series and I have just finished reading. How to review this without any spoilers?
I don’t think I can, so you will just have to buy it and find out for yourself.
Definitely start with Book One of the series, if you like police procedural/serial killers you definitely won’t be disappointed.
Four stars from me because, well read it and see!
Sorry Gregg Dunnet for not giving it five but you know why. Am I being harsh? Possibly.
Thank you Net Galley & Gregg Dunnet for an advanced copy of The Hunt.
Oh my goodness! A cliffhanger... how unfair. I need the next book in this series as in yesterday. Loved the book. Well written, excellent characterisation and a neatly thought out plot. Excellent holiday read!
SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT READ IF YOU DON"T WANT TO KNOW MY COMMENT ABOUT THE ENDING! LAST CHANCE...! Okay, you've been warned. "Nooooo!!," you'll scream when you get to the end of The Hunt. Because, once again, Dunnett proves he's a cliffhanger master. Yes, I should have seen it coming after the previous exciting Erica Sands adventure, but still it left me wailing for more. There was a sigh of relief on my part when I read Dunnett will soon gift us the next Erica Sands book. This book reaffirms my believe this is the most scintillating Storm series being published. Sands is a great character and Charles Sterling remains one of the most memorable malefactors in the genre. The Hunt is a multi-part thriller and Dunnett skillfully ties the parts together. It's truly another riveting read and a brilliant entry in the series. Thank you to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for the advance reading copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is one of my favourite and must read series at the moment. As for the latest The Hunt omg be still my beating heart. Fast paced another thrill ride and as for the cliff hanger I need the next book NOW PLEASE !!!!!! Highly recommended and another five star read. Loved it.
Many thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc in return for an honest review.
Oh how I enjoyed this read.
Erika Sands is on the hunt for her father. He has escaped from prison and now he, a serial killer, is on the run.
This pacy drama filled read is amazing to read. It has suspense by the buckey load, twists and an amazing cliffhanger that ensures I want to read book 4 .
I loved this book - absolutely gripping and thrilling
I hadn’t read the previous 2 books in this series but reading it standalone was no problem for me. I will make an effort and have desire to read the previous ones now.
Enjoyed the plot with twist and turns and characters were great. What a cliffhanger ! I want more and can’t wait for book 4.
Highly recommended
Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing
Thank you netgalley and the publishers or this ARC of this book. This was a thriller that had me hooked with plot twists that I didn’t see coming. The character development was what hooked me, and the story’s plot kept me engaged. The pacing and themes throughout the story were well developed and I definitely will be recommending this to my book club in 2025.
The Hunt by Gregg Dunnet is the third book in the series by this Author. You can read this book as a standalone, but I highly recommend the first two books to get a feel for Erika Sands and her father the infamous Serial Killer Charles Sterling. This is an absolute gripping thriller and once you pick up this book you will not want to put it down. Erika’s father Charles Sterling escapes from jail and vanishes without a trace. Erika believes her father is out there somewhere and the author does an excellent job gripping you from page one, with all the suspense you will need as this book has an intriguing action-packed storyline.
The book is dark and complex, and if you love a fast-paced book this one is defiantly worth reading as it will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page. It has a cliff hanger ending that I found left me wanting more and I am looking forward to the fourth book in this series. Thanks to NetGalley and to the publishers of this book for giving me a free advance copy of the book to preview and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
For the record, I've read the author for years, and have really enjoyed his books. I really enjoyed this one, getting through it in a day (which never happens for me). The author is a master storyteller, and creates real characters with real dialogue. It's a skill he possesses in abundance.
This book is no exception. It's good. It's a continuation of Detective Erica Sands' journey, and as such, I should have known what was coming, but, I didn't.
I hated the ending, absolutely hated it. Will I read the next one, remembering how I feel? Yes.
I received a complimentary copy of the novel from the publisher and NetGalley, and my review is being left freely.
I loved the pace and thrill of the novel!!! The only thing that bothered me a little is all the details about Charles 's escape already given. It was not necessary to get an idea of how he did it. The cliff hanger of the conclusion only makes me even more impatient to read the next book!
I received a digital copy of this novel from NetGalley and I have voluntarily written an honest review.
Here is another fascinating installment in this series with our protagonist, DCI Erica Sands, as she continues
to risk her career and her life to locate her father, the escaped mass murderer, Charles Sterling. This is the
theme here, until we start to follow the trail with journalist Pierre Cloarec, and as things get serious~ as we
find that DCI Sands could end up as yet another victim. This is well written with lots of terror for the reader~
and we can only hope there will be at least one more in the series so Erika can straighten her life out,
whether or not her father is recaptured. Erika has put her life in peril in each book and we spend a lot of
time worrying!
My thanks to Storm Publishing via NetGalley for the download of this book via download
for review purposes.
This had me hooked from the first page. It's written in 4 parts. The first part is about Erica who is told that after his escape from prison, Charles Sterling, her father, subsequently passed away and left her all his money. She's now incredibly wealthy but she refuses to believe Charles is dead and becomes obsessed with trying to find him. The second part is about a journalist investigating documents leaked from a legal firm involved in handling money laundering and tax evasion for some very dangerous and important people. The third part is about Charles after his escape. And lastly, in the fourth part, the author brings all these aspects together in a fantastic, nail-biting race to the end ... which unfortunately ends on a cliffhanger, darn it! I hope we don't wait too long for book 4, I really need to know what happens next!
Thanks to Netgalley, Storm Publishing, and Gregg Dunnett for the free ARC. All opinions are my own.
DCI Erica Sands continues on the trail of her father, the notorious serial killer Charles Sterling, after his escape from a maximum security prison.
Although everyone tells her to give up after his supposed death, she is tenacious and continues the search despite risking her career.
In this novel Erica confronts herself and her colleagues because she is unable to concentrate on anything but the obsession that has kept her on edge since her father escaped.
On the other hand, we have a journalist in France writing an article about financial fraud involving many well-known people, including a mafia family.
Both parts of this novel have managed to interest me equally. You clearly know that they have to come together in the end and you start to make assumptions about that connection.
A good narrative pace and an intriguing story for this third installment in the series that culminates with a huge cliffhanger that has me already looking forward to the next one.
I think in this case it is necessary to have read the previous ones to understand the book well, which fans will undoubtedly enjoy.
The Hunt by G. Dunnett, published by Storm Publishing is book three in the Detective Erika Sands Series.
An intriguing read, fast paced, action packed and drama laden, the story had me from start til the last page. I recommend to read the books in order.
5 stars.
Blurb: DCI Erica Sands is on the hunt for her father, the infamous Charles Sterling, who vanished without a trace after a daring escape from a maximum-security prison.
The trail has gone cold, and the authorities believe he has disappeared forever. But Erica knows her father better than anyone and feels his presence lurking in the shadows.
When journalist Pierre Cloarec uncovers a massive financial fraud – the same method Sterling used to fund his escape – his investigation leads him to a seemingly quiet coastal village. There, a new friendship with a mysterious American takes a dark and disturbing turn, and Erica’s instincts tell her this is no coincidence.
With the clock against her, Erica must unravel the connection between the investigation and her father’s disappearance, before he begins a new reign of terror – and she becomes his next victim.
Book 3 in the DCI Erica Sands series.
This time we see Erica focused on the locale and recapture of the infamous Charles Sterling after his escape from prison some six months previously.
When a strange man accosts Erica outside her apartment and says he is from a firm of attorneys based in Singapore, Erica is more than dubious of the message he delivers, and an increasingly frantic obsession to prove the attorney wrong is all consuming, leading to her boss advising that it was time for her to either let go or take a sabbatical. Unable to release her suspicions, Erica decides that a break from her role would be in everyone’s best interests.
A very different side to the DCI in this book, and not one that is entirely pleasant, which makes for a fascinating read.
My least favourite of the series, it is quite an international romp, far from the previous books, but still an absorbing read.
3.5*
My only gripe - too much of a cliffhanger, very naughty!
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing.
DCI Erica Sands is on the hunt for her father, the infamous serial killer Charles Sterling, who vanished without a trace after a daring escape from a maximum-security prison! Good book! This book had suspense, intriguing, murder, mystery, a sort of who done it and a few crazy twists and turns! The story was interesting, it wasn’t one of my top favorite but still worth reading! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
