I'm a bit conflicted with this book. The story was good and kept my attention but I found the writing style wooden. Worse than that, it was littered with bad grammar. When you're writing a conversation, you start a new paragraph with the new speaker. There were lots of paragraphs in this book where both characters' words were included and this initially made me have to reread in order to understand it.
Overall, a decent story, spoiled by bad writing.
Ohh this is a very, VERY good read. I think Against the Blue Wall can be read on its own although I'd suggest you read the previous book - Once a Detective - to know the character(s) from the start.
The story certainly hit the ground running with the death of a young black man. Burnett is asked by the victims family Attorney to look into the perpetrators - 2 police officers, their backgrounds and motivation for the killing. What he finds out puts the safety of his family at risk. I thoroughly enjoyed this read, I like the authors writing style, the story flows very easily and is full of thrills and suspense. The plot line is all to believeable in todays world and doesn't hold back on serious and current issues like racism and police brutality. I think this series is shaping up to be a good one with a very likeable main character and look forward to the next book.

A young man is brutally beaten by two cops in suburban New York. His only crime? He was born Black.
When the family’s attorney contacts private detective Dan Burnett, a former NYPD cop, to investigate, he’s initially conflicted by his lifelong loyalty to the police department and the “Blue Wall of Silence.”
However, after seeing videos of the beating, he’s horrified and searches for the Cop’s motivation. As he digs deeper, he discovers an organized group of white supremacists within the local Police Department.
Now, he’s all in, and when they try to stop him, Dan fears for the safety of his girlfriend and college-aged daughter. Soon, his fears prove correct, and we’re off to a gritty, emotional thriller as Dan attempts to hold these cops accountable while keeping his loved ones alive.
Dan Burnett is on the case again! Filled with memorable characters and a hefty dose of suspense, Larry Terhaar’s newest thriller will keep you turning the page.—Prill Boyle, author of Defying Gravity
Full of suspense and a very good read. Will recommend to others.
When PI and former NYPD Det Dan Burnett is asked to look into to the brutal beating of a young
black man by 2 white NYPD cops, he is conflicted on whether to go against the infamous "bluewall".
Until he begins to really understand exactly wht went on the night the victim was stopped for a supposed minor traffic infraction.
The story takes off like a rocket with non stop action and suspense.
The characters are very well defined and the story line, sadly, only too real in today's society.
Great read.
Next??
This was a strong entry in the Dan Burnett Thriller series, it had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed the overall story going through this. The characters were everything that I was looking for and enjoyed getting to go through this story and am excited for more. Larry Terhaar wrote this well and was glad I got to read this.
This is my first book by this author. I didn't realize it was part of a series. I throughly enjoyed it, and will be going back to read the first book about Dan Burnett. This book was more of a mystery instead of a thriller, but it was still a really good and easy read. I hope the author continues the series.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book
