I really like the idea of this book, and I believe that making a story on the journey of Hope For Wildlife is so, so important. However, there are two little things that didn't work so well:
1. Vocabulary. This book is intended for young readers that are starting to read chapter books. However, there were a lot of advanced words or ideas that younger readers won't understand. This detracts from the story and could cause a bit of confusion. An example of this is college terminology and ideas.
2. Length. This book just felt too long and too dense, which causes me to believe that readers might lose interest in this story. I would simplify or condense this book so that readers can absorb all of the information. This is especially important because, as I said, this story is very important and encourages kids to think about wildlife, and the caring and keeping of it. This is crucial today because numerous species are becoming endangered or extinct.
That aside, I think that this is truly such a meaningful book, so bravo for that!
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read She Is Hope for Wildlife. This children’s picture book is all about animal rescuer Hope Swinimer and her wildlife nonprofit. Through beautiful artwork and illustrations, we learn about Hope’s journey from a young girl to a wildlife rescuer. Hope’s love and compassion to all animals is apparent throughout the story. I highly recommend for children 5+ who are interested in wildlife!
This book was so sweet, and was illustrated beautifully! I had never heard of Hope or her mission before, and the story laid out her history of a young girl becoming a wildlife expert so wonderfully. The story gives you a sense of excitement to find your own purpose in life, and to work hard to achieve that goal. I can’t wait to learn more about Hope and her wildlife rescue thanks to the sources provided in this book!
Excellent and detailed biography. I expected more of a picture book biography but this is longer, lots of fantastic illustrations, but with chapters. It is very in depth.
This would be a great addition to libraries closer to Hope for Wildlife. I think that it will resonate very well with certain kiddos but the audience is smaller due to the detail of the text.
Overall, a great book.
Thank you to Net Galley and Nimbus Publishing for the eARC! All opinions are my own.
This book was so good! I loved having the opportunity to read an advanced copy, and to learn about a woman in wildlife protection. I really enjoyed reading about Hope's life, and what got her into and onto, her eventual career path. I would love to use this book in my classroom for our environmental science unit!
