I’ve read James’s previous High Peak book “From 1 to 46” and this seems like the new and improved version in addition to combining his podcast stories. The maps are better and it combines trail information as well as his story of climbing each peak. It was an enjoyable read and fun to reminisce on my own experiences of becoming a 46er.

While this is very good for the experienced hiker who wants to explore the Adirondack Mountains, for me, who is a novice hiker who hasn’t climbed any mountains and was hoping to read more about what a novice would need in this range, it felt like it was too much. The author has many excellent tips at the start of the book - they are useful for all hikers of any level. But after that, when he starts to describe the trails in more detail, that seemed a little too detailed for the newcomer. But I would recommend it to experienced hikers

Full of useful information based on the author's personal experience. I appreciate the humor and honesty with which he describes each hike. This book is a must-have if you ever plan to hike in the Adironacks, but it's also just an interesting mountain adventure story as well.

As a New Yorker that lives very close to the adk mountains I was excited to see this. James did a great job with tips and tricks he used as well as detailed accounts of his trips. As an aspiring 46er I found this extremely helpful. With it being so local this is something I will definitely want to have an available for patrons.
