How have I not read this sooner! It was so fun! I love a good magical rework of history. I'm really glad I experienced this story for the first time via audiobook because the narrator was so good! So engaging. Great comedic timing.
I will definitely be recommending this!

I really really enjoyed this as an audiobook! I never watched the TV show or read it as a book prior and I have to say my history knowledge when it comes to this time period is pretty poor so I kind of went into this quite blind but I have to say I loved it.

The narrator was excellent & so engaging, the storyline itself was so interesting and funny at the same and I just really really enjoyed it!

Would definitely recommend and I’ll likely go and watch the TV show now!!

[thank you NetGalley & Bolinda Audio for this early access copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review ahead of its publication date]

Ever since I binged the show and fell in love with the story, plot and characters, especially the romance between Jane and Gifford, I knew I’d eventually want to get around to reading the original book of My Lady Jane. But I am so thankful I waited until I could listen to this delightfully charming and campy audiobook. It truly elevated the entire experience!!

The humour hit perfectly with the intonations and accents of the narrator. She was truly hilarious and hit every beat of humour so it was executed to perfection. I laughed out loud so many times— the pillow tantrum scene is arguably my favourite— and it was mostly down to the narrator’s delivery of the already campy and eccentric dialogue. The best thing about the book is that it doesn’t take itself too seriously and because of that, you can just escape and enjoy the story in all its silly eccentricity. I only wish this was solely Jane and Gifford’s POVs. I found I didn’t care much for Edward sadly. He was fine but not my favourite. The rest was perfect!

I’m a long time Tudor history fan so this book was an instant appeal to me. It’s very transparent in its ‘this is not a retelling of history’ and it liberally and generously bends history but takes its base from the life of Lady Jane Grey. The woman we all know as the Queen who ruled for only 9 days and then met her unceremonious end.

Sounds pretty heavy doesn’t it? But fear not, not in this book. It’s not morose but met with humour and light hearted funniness. It’s unhinged in the best way and the audiobook is a format I’d definitely recommend.

The audiobook was narrated well and captured the humour and accents. My only caveat was it felt a little too long for me, but that’s just personal preference. I’ve been a ‘quick 300 page book’ girl for a fair few books now so it took some getting used to. It took me a while to get past the ‘it’s not a history book’ as I’m used to portrayals closer to history but that is the whole premise of this read.

It’s bound to entertain and is a great light hearted read to enjoy.
