This is my first time seeing an arc by authors I have already read previously so obviously I had to request it. I enjoyed 'The Roughest Draft' when I read it the beginning of last year but for me, 'Book Boyfriend' just wasn't my vibe.

It was overall an easy book to read but for me personally, I'm not really interested in fantasy books and that is a main feature of this. For those who love romantasy, I'm sure you'd love this but I just couldn't get into it as I do find some elements a bit cringey.

The main character was just a bit too immature for me too and some of her dialogue was childish at parts. I do think this improved as the book went on and she grows as a person though.

Thank you to NetGalley for this arc !!

Such a fun premise, truly a book for the fantasy romance lovers - I enjoyed the chemistry between the two mains, even when at the beginning there was a spark which was enjoyable to see build. Not a fave, but I enjoyed my time with it.

If you love romantasy and slightly silly rom coms this book will be perfect for you. Jennifer Worth is a long time romantic and after suffering another break up escapes to the ultimate fan experience for her favourite romantasy series. The only problem is her work nemesis - Scott - is also there...and in a plot twist nobody sees coming, sexual tension and romantic sparks fly between them.

The plot is comfortingly predictable and the book is almost a love letter to women like Jennifer and myself who love to read, particularly those who love to read romantasy. It pokes fun at some of the tropes and social media memes (including the 'lean' and lusting after forearms), but mostly reinforces all the reasons we love this genre.

Although by the end of the novel I had warmed to Scott, for at least the first half he came across like one of those men's dating coaching misogynists. It gave red flags and not in the good romantasy way. Instead he seemed predatory and only interested in presenting a false version of himself to get the girls. He does see the error of his ways and realises he just needs to be his authentic self, but by the time this happens I had already gotten the ick and did not understand how Jennifer kept falling for these 'tricks', despite being aware of them.

I did love the friendships in the novel though. Jennifer is insecure when it comes to making adult friendships and a big part of her character growth is her finding those friendships and bonding through their shared love of books.

This was such a lovely, light hearted read and loved the tropes! I loved Jennifer and her dream to escape into her favourite romantasy series (who wouldn't want to!) which was such a cool plot line, however when she ends up with the opportunity to go to a book event of her fav series she ends up bumping into her work nemesis who ends up being everything she thought he wasn't. I sometimes think the best books are the ones that follow a sort of predictable route and ticks all the boxes, and I absolutely loved this book!!

The premise was very quirky and a little ridiculous. A very nerdy, slightly overdone romance about book nerds falling in love with each other on a fantasy event of their favourite book series. The enemies to lovers trope felt quite forced and I still didn’t understand the origin of their dislike at the end of the book. The side characters were cute but felt a little too comical and I ultimately I didn’t care for either of the main characters.

This was a fantasy girlies dream come true in book form. I adored Jennifer and honestly wanted to be her at a lot of points in the story. Scott was an interesting character to follow and it took me a while to like him. The supporting characters in this book need books of their own asap.

This book felt like a love story for readers and was a fantastic read. Full of love for reading, fantasy and everyone's favourite trope "enemies to lovers".

While I adore Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka’s writing and their previous books (The Roughest Draft, Do I Know You? and The Breakup Tour) were all infinite stars, this was not a fave. The chemistry and banter were great, but I’m not a fan of books about other books and fandoms and conventions.

Book Boyfriend was a light hearted, romantic read.

Although the premise of the book as a whole was brilliant, I did however find myself really struggling to take to Scott, which wasn't ideal with him being our male lead!. My feelings towards him were somewhat conflicted as at some points I really disliked him, and then at others I found him rather endearing..

I did find the writing style beautiful though, and the storyline itself flowed effortlessly!.

Jennifer Worth lives to escape into the world of her favorite romantasy series Elytheum Courts, where the romance is sweeping and the men are brave, chivalrous and winged. Newly single and craving connection, she travels to an immersive fan experience celebrating all things Elytheum, only to see the last face she expected—Scott Daniels, her work nemesis.

This is one instance where single POV works against the story. One moment, Scott was a mean guy. The next, he was proclaiming allegiance to Jennifer. Their romance felt like a way to get rid of the sexual tension instead of being more emotional. Jennifer's indecision also frustrated me.

One thing I loved about this was the friendships she acquired during the convention. I was also invested in another love story unfolding for some of the side characters and loved how that turned out.

Thank you to Netgalley and Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fun read. Jennifer the main character works for a publishing firm. When her boyfriend dumps her she decides to take her friend Amelia up on her offer of tickets to a fan event for her favourite fantasy series.
When she arrives she sees her arch rival at work Scott has also come.
The story is told from Jennifer's point of view.
It was an enjoyable read although I thought Jennifer a bit immature at times.
The idea was good and it was well described you did feel you were attending the events.
If someone is looking for a lighthearted read this is it.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher.

The latest book from this husband and wife writing duo is set at an immersive experience based on a romantasy novel, where two work colleagues and sort-of-enemies unexpectedly encounter each other. I really liked the idea, but in the end it just didn't work for me very well. I really, really enjoyed The Roughest Draft which I bought two years ago. I was then disappointed and puzzled by The Break Up tour last year. I was hoping this would be closer to the Roughest Draft than The Break Up Tour, but sadly it's another puzzler for me. I didn't understand why the two leads hadn't just had a conversation to clear the air after their initial misunderstanding, and the heroine was just really immature for how old - and established in her career - she is meant to be. Frustrating.

Normally I devour a book by these two authors, but this one had me slightly stumped. It had all the makings of an excellent book - a romance, a beautiful setting, gorgeous writing and loveable side characters - but I just could not understand what Scott, the MMC was all about! We get significantly more (beautifully written) detail about the characters in Jennifer's favourite book series than we ever do about Scott, and I just struggled to root for them as a couple. 50% of the book builds him up as a villan then suddenly he smoulders once and Jennifer's forgives him? Then 30 seconds later she doesn't believe him?

This one fell a little flat for me, but it was gorgeously written and I loved Fred/Val and Amelia.

I loved this book, cheesy moments, enemies to lovers and the publishing environment made it a perfect and cute read for me.

Thanks to Pan Macmillan and Netgalley for this advance copy of Book Boyfriend.

I love Wibberly and Siegemund-Broka's work - they manage to write such real and vivid characters and pack allllll the feelings into their novels. Book Boyfriend follows Jennifer, who adores romantasy more than anything. After a public breakup she decides to go to an ACOTAR inspired retreat - a week to be fully immersed in fandom. But of course who else shows up? Her work nemesis, Scott.

In true romantasy style we then get to watch the enemies become loversssss, but the miscommunication in this book made it fall a tad flat. Still loved it, but not my fav from the authors.

Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for the free ARC of this book to read in exchange for an honest review.

I fear I will never be normal again after finishing this book.

I want to laugh and cry and kick my feet in pure joy after reading this, I have sooooo many emotions coursing through me😭

OKAY onto a logical review now... The characters were absolutely amazing, ovbs I loved Scott, especially with some of things he was saying (they were swoon worthy) and Jennifer, I felt like she was super relatable and I saw a lot of myself in her, I think that's why I enjoyed reading her character so much. Plus the side characters were embelished enough, but not too much that they took away from the MCs. A really good balance.

A couple of times the writing did feel a little flat, and awkward, but the rest of the book was really good! Especially since it was almost a book within a book, and the author was writing a romance book about a romantasy book/event, it was really well woven in and I got swept up in both stories really (kinda wish Elytheum Courts was real!)

Plot wise the main bulk of it was what you expect from these kinds of books, it was rivals to lovers, there was a third act break up (ovbs).

But what I really enjoyed was the world building, the setting, the premise of it being a fan experience was nothing I'd ever read before and I really liked it! The whole thing felt immersive and as if was surrounding me.

On the whole, I just really enjoyed reading this book and that's why I've rated it 5 stars.

Thank you NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for the ARC

Unfortunately this wasn't a hit for me. I liked the concept but not so much the execution. The chemistry between the characters wasn't there and the romance was too cringy. Way too cheesy and hard to believe.

Book Boyfriend by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka is a romcom that seems perfect for booklovers. This is Jennifer and Scott‘s story.

Jennifer lives and breathes books, and she even works in publishing. At first, I really liked her and could totally sympathize with her being a fellow booklover. But she is obsessed with this romantasy series, Elytheum Courts, which I imagined as something like Acotar but it’s never actually specified and you get to see way too little from this book series to fall in love with it itself. I wish it had at least some extracts from it. This series has taken over her life and it reached unhealthy obsessive levels that destroyed the whole book lover aspect. Reality completely blurred for her, and she had the most unrealistic expectations and would compare every potential love interest to her favorite series. I felt like her whole personality trait was this romantasy series and I felt like I never met the actual Jennifer.

At work she rivals a bit with Scott, and they don’t really like each other. But this is only very brief, and I wouldn’t even call it a work rivalry. Then all of a sudden, they fall in love just because Scott goes to a book convention where he cosplays- you guessed it a character from her favorite series. And afterwards Scott became the perfect man for her which was so unrealistic, and it completely missed the whole relationship development. You also never get Scott‘s perspective and I couldn’t really connect with him because sometimes he seemed to become whatever Jennifer imagined. This book sounded so good and perfect for romance book lovers. But sadly, it fell completely flat for me, and I wanted something different from it.

Overall, this book seemed too constructed and unrealistic, and it didn’t have book boyfriend material for me. 2 stars.

A rivals to lovers in the publishing industry coupled with a super sunshine and romantic protagonist and a grumpy anti-romantic grumpy a mix to devour.

This is my first book by this writing duo, and I really enjoyed it.

Our protagonist loves romance books and has recently suffered a breakup and to distract herself she joins a fan experience of her favorite series (honestly I want to go to one too), but surprise she finds her work nemesis, who has always teased her about her romantic tendencies, and who we learn is in research mode for better luck in love.

The dynamic of opposites attracting each other is always fun to read and even more so with the authors' pen.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with this ARC.

Jennifer and Scott are enemies in the work place. After a break up, which he witnesses, she heads off to a weekend celebrating her favorite series of books. She is surprised when she meets Scott there- is there more to him than she expected? A fun read.
