Wow, Angela Marsons did it again. 36 Hours the 21st book in the DI Kim Stone series was excellent. Kim gets a visit in the middle of the night from reporter Tracy Frost. She and Tracey have bumped heads before and Kim is ready to close the door, but something about the note from a person calling themselves "The Jester" gives her pause. Her instincts tell her this is serious, and she calls in her team. Both her boss and Tracy's boss want them to leave it alone, thinking it is a hoax, but they can't do that. The Jester gives them clues to find the next clue and if they don't do it on time, someone will be harmed, someone that won't be missed. It ends up being similar to a scavenger hunt involving geocaching. Will they find the victim before The Jester ends the game?
36 Hours was a race against the clock. Stacey is their search whiz and with her on the computer and the others wracking their brains, they were able to figure out the clues, but could they get there on time. Having Tracy working with the team was an interesting addition and I enjoyed how she worked with them, at times being shut out because she is a reporter. When The Jester upped the ante, I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see who would win the game. This was a suspenseful story that was straight up puzzling and sorting the clues in order to find the culprit, but boy was it another good one. Again, Jan Cramer does an outstanding job with the narration of this audiobook and if you enjoy that format, I can't recommend it enough.
Reporter Tracy Frost receives a note for Detective Kim Stone who has 36 hours to follow the clues or people start to die. So starts the investigation and Kim and her team are in for a long shift. Good cast of characters well plotted with twists and turn to keep you reading. Jan Cramer does an excellent narration that clear and you know which character is speaking. Thanks to Bookoutre and Netgalley for this review ARC.
EXCERPT: Dear Ms Frost,
First of all, you should know this is not a joke.
It is a game, and you will play. If you follow instructions, no one will get hurt.
You will not miss the first, but you will miss the next.
The game will begin at 7 a.m.
Assemble your team including one high-ranking police officer.
Post updates on the progress of the game every 6 hours on the Dudley star website naming The Jester.
Updates to begin at noon. Failure will have consequences.
The game will end at 7 p.m. Monday.
Make no mistake. Play the game or people will die. . .
ABOUT '36 HOURS': Kim clutches the note tightly as her pulse starts to race. You have 36 hours. If you follow the instructions, no one will get hurt…
When Detective Kim Stone is woken before dawn because local journalist Tracy Frost wants to show her a message, she’s not impressed. But her blood turns cold when she reads the note. She has 36 hours to follow a trail set by an anonymous challenger. If she fails, people will die.
Kim’s gut tells her this is no hoax. She summons her team, desperate to prevent what lies ahead. With minutes to spare, they solve the first cryptic clue. It leads to a box hidden deep in the woods, containing a second clue and a tape. As she listens to the recording of a heart-wrenching scream, Kim knows her enemy will go to any lengths to achieve his goals… and that she must draw on all her experience of evil men to understand what is driving him.
Refusing to blindly follow orders, Kim and the team turn the killer’s clues against him, using evidence buried deep in the tapes to find where he’s hiding his victim. But they are too late… And then, as the sun rises on the second day, someone else goes missing. This time, it’s a skilled surgeon, and if they don’t save her, an eight-year-old girl will die.
Exhausted and enraged, with her bosses watching every step she takes, Kim realises the only way to win is to break the rules. But with the clock ticking, can she find the twisted mind behind this murderous game before her time runs out?
MY THOUGHTS: What can I say about this series or Marsons' writing that hasn't already been said? Both are superb and guaranteed to keep the pulse racing and the pages turning throughout.
As always, the tension is palpable and the plot fast paced. The twists and turns come thick and fast - there's barely time to catch your breath!
Although I was desperately trying to work out who the Jester was, my guesses all fell far short of the mark.
36 Hours can probably be read as a stand-alone, but you will miss out on the development of the characters relationships and the other 20 gripping storylines.
I was lucky enough to be able to combine reading the book with listening to the audiobook, brilliantly narrated by Jan Cramer. Both formats are excellent.

DISCLOSURE: Thank you to Bookouture and Bookouture Audio for providing both a digital and an audio ARC of 36 Hours by Angela Marsons for review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own personal opinions.
I am a huge fan of Angela Marson and I was delighted to get the opportunity to read her newest book 36 Hours. This was one of the most gripping and thrilling books I have read in a long time. I listened to it over the course of 3 days as I simply couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to read more from the author in the future.
Detective Kim Stone is back and has a case to solve in just 36 hours, following a trail set by a killer who wants Kim to play a deadly game.
The first two clues lead Kim and her team into the woods, where there is a tape recording of a chilling scream. With the clock literally ticking, the clever and deadly killer always seems to be one step ahead, but there is seemingly no victim - yet?
This was a crazy ride, with twists and turns coming from all directions and Kim having to deal with her boss's demands, as well as those of the cryptic clue killer. Brilliant!
4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Angela Marsons and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.
This is my review for the ebook and the audiobook confirmed it. The narrator is excellent and enjoyed the voice
When it comes to Angela Marsons's novel I always have high expectations. I was never disappointed and had a lot of fun, being of the edge and trying to guess who-did-it-and-why
These two novels (Guilty Mothers and 36 Hours) were an exhilarating and gripping rollercoaster of emotions. I didn't guessed the twists, liked them and there was plenty of surprises.
The evolution of the characters is great and I was happy to catch up
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Angela Marsons has once again delivered a masterclass in suspense with her latest installment in the Detective Kim Stone series, "36 Hours." From the first minute of the audiobook, it's clear that this is not just another crime thriller—it's a relentless, pulse-pounding race against time that will have you clinging to every word. Marsons's knack for crafting intricate, gripping plots and her deep understanding of her characters shine through in this unputdownable adventure.
Set against the familiar backdrop of the West Midlands, Detective Kim Stone finds herself thrust into one of her most challenging cases yet. The story begins with a chilling discovery, and from there, the stakes rise at breakneck speed. What makes "36 Hours" stellar is not just its compelling plot, but the emotional depth that Marsons weaves into the narrative. Kim Stone's unyielding determination and vulnerability are portrayed with such finesse that you can't help but root for her, even as the clock ticks down.
Jan Cramer's narration adds an extra layer of brilliance to this audiobook. Her performance is nothing short of mesmerizing, bringing each character to life with distinct voices and impeccable pacing. Cramer's ability to convey the tension and urgency of the story enhances the listening experience, making it feel as though you're right there with Kim Stone, racing against time.
Marsons expertly balances heart-pounding action with thought-provoking moments, exploring themes of justice, resilience, and the human spirit's capacity to endure even the darkest of times. The supporting cast of characters, both new and familiar, adds richness to the story, and their interactions with Kim Stone are as engaging as they are heartfelt.
"36 Hours" is not just a crime thriller; it's a testament to Marsons's unparalleled storytelling abilities.
For fans of the series, this latest book is a must-listen, offering everything you could hope for and more. And for newcomers, it serves as an enticing entry point into the world of Detective Kim Stone. Buckle up for a thrilling ride that will leave you breathless and eagerly anticipating the next chapter in Kim Stone's journey.
Of you're looking for an audiobook that will keep you on the edge of your seat, "36 Hours" is the perfect pick. Marsons and Cramer make a formidable team, delivering a story that is as emotionally resonant as it is thrilling. This is a crime thriller at its finest, and one that you won't soon forget.
This was such a clever concept to change things up a little. Kim and her team are still investigating a case, but this time the case came to them, hasn’t yet happened and has a countdown. It made it feel different yet still familiar.
This is one of my most favorite crime series. The team and their personalities along with how they investigate and what they know fit together so well. In this one there is Tracy. The reporter that has caused them so much grief. It is a great play off each other. The team’s job is to protect and the person they are working with and charged with protecting is someone they try and have nothing to do with and mistrust. I loved the give and take in that. Add that to the puzzles they need to solve by the deadline. I liked the cat and mouse aspect of Kim and her team, Tracy and the criminal. It was complex but felt so easy as I read.
I was engrossed from the start and while it’s longer than my average read, it went by so quickly. I was tense reading it because someone always ends up in jeopardy as the case progresses. I’m always so worried it is time to show how dangerous police work is. No hints from me on this front.
This is the first time I’ve listened to one of the series. I liked it. Jan Cramer was a great narrator. She really nailed bringing Kim to life. She got the ups and the downs of the case and really kept me rapt and never wanting to stop listening.
If you like a crime novel and haven’t picked up this series, you really need to. The way the characters grow and develop from book to book is amazing. You can pick up any book in the series and jump right in and follow what is happening in that book. You’ll miss the growth of the characters, but there will be nothing lacking in the read. You really won’t be sorry.
Went straight from book 1 to this but didn’t feel like I had missed anything. Works perfectly as a stand alone book. The story involves puzzles and a dark end game. Gripping!
Love, love, love this series.
Detective Kim Stone and her team are brilliant characters, as is journalist Tracy Frost - I love them all!
Every book is cleverly constructed to keep us on our toes. They are perfectly narrated by Jan Creamer.
I can't recommend Angela Marsons books highly enough.
Thanks so much to the author, via Bookouture Audio at Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to this terrific new book.
BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for '36 Hours' by Angela Marsons.
OMG!!! SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO US ANGELA!!!! JUST WOW!!!! Seriously love, love LOVED this book!!!! Although, shouldn't be so shocked, it is Angela Marsons and Kim Stone after all!!!! Anyway, on with the review shall I....
Angela's style of writing is absolutely fantastic. She has a way in which she completely absorbs the reader into the book with vivid and graphic descriptions that have you completely lost in the plot. It is the type of book that when you finish you look around and wonder where you are and how is nobody else reacting to the bombshell that has just been dropped!!! One of the most heart racing, nail biting, actually stopped breathing book I've EVER read!!!! I mean how on earth do you do it Angela??? Every single book is more heart racing than the next and this has absolutely smashed it!!! This epic series is the best I have ever read. I mean nobody can beat Kim and the team!!
Angela kicks it out of the ballpark each and every single time!!! How can someone write so many epic, addictive and gritty books yet come up with unique storylines that shock the reader constantly!!! Angela is the absolute queen of crime and if you have never read any of her books then what on earth are you waiting for!!! You are seriously missing out!! The storyline is an absolute rollercoaster ride through a multi layered adventure park set in the world of horror, supernatural, medium and crime!!! There's never just one case with Angela but so much going on, not too much to get you confused but just the perfect amount to keep the pace continuous. The majority of chapters end on cliff-hanger so keeps reader addicted and turning pages. Although this book is the 21st book in the epic Kim Stone series it can easily be read as a standalone. I am not a fan of books in a series being read out of order but if you do there is a silver lining of doing this and that is while you are waiting for the next book in this series to be released you can go back and read the previous books while you are waiting. I can guarantee that if you have never read any books by this absolutely crime queen then I promise that you are about to discover your new favourite author!!. The murders and crimes are unique and morbidly intriguing. I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails whilst feeling my heart pounding into the silly hours of the morning as this is one book that cannot be put down so clear your diaries before picking it up. It fills you with all emotions from fear to laughter, tension to shock. You would think there would be only so many ways to kill someone but Angela brings new ways to kill her characters of each and every time. If Angela ever decides to go rogue then lock your doors and hide as she has absolutely everything covered!!! The evocative descriptions and Angela's amazing writing skills will have you trying to hunt out the killer/s and the truth with Kim and Bryant while your heart is pounding throughout. My heart was in my throat the whole way through from the epilogue to the very last sentence. I just could not believe what I was reading. As always the last chapter had me absolutely gobsmacked and I absolutely LOVED IT!!! Well done Angela, I'm getting harder and harder to shock but you had me hook, line and sinker!!!! I seriously NEED to see these amazing books on the big screen!! I was absolutely LANDED to discover that these amazing books are actually going to be made into a series and I really cannot wait to see them and to read the next addition in my favourite series with my favourite characters ever!!! The fact that Angela always researches her topics and police procedurals absolutely shines through these books and I want to say a HUGE WELL DONE for that.
Why are you still reading this? Don't bother!!! The book is much better than any of my words can describe so cancel your plans, put the kettle on and get stuck in to this absolutely page turning must read now!!!
Although this is the twenty first book in the series I would have had absolutely no problems reading it without any of the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.
These characters have become like very close friends to me and each time I meet them it feels like I haven't been far from them for long. Kim and her fierce attitude, Bryant who is the angel (at times) on Kim's shoulders who (sometimes) manages to calm her down and make her see sense, the strange relationship with Tracy Frost and so much more. . It isn't all crime and sadness in Angela's books though and it had me giggling on several occasions which is brilliant considering it's a crime novel. Kim's attitude really does make me smile and laugh out loud. Tracy plays quite a big part in this book although I won't say any more than the fact that I enjoyed seeing the tilt in the Stone/Frost rollercoaster relationship they have. My heart broke for a certain character that we have seen over this series and I was hoping it wouldn't end the way it did for them but again I won't say more than that. Angela creates fantastic team dynamics with memorable characters who work together brilliantly and perfectly. Each character is unique and has strong personalities and they just are completely unforgettable. I absolutely adore the pathologist Keats and how the sarcasm between him and the team and his attitude. Stacey and Penn are also strong team members and I love how they work so well together and yet wind each other up constantly. Angela has brought these characters to life over this series and I have yet to meet a team and group of people I like so much. I genuinely miss them between books.
A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS ANGELA MARSONS!!! As always you have done the research and you have created what I can guarantee will be one of the best read books ever!! I hope your busy writing cause I cannot wait to get my hands on your next success!!! Seriously what are you waiting for guys??? Stop reading this and get your copy now!!!! This is exactly why you and this series are my favourite author and series!!! You are absolutely amazing and I hope you are busy on your next success because I'm missing the gang already!!!
Overall an absolutely amazing psychological thriller of epic proportions that will keep your heart pounding all night. This is one of the best books I have ever read!!!! An absolute MUST READ!!!

the setup…
Newspaper reporter Tracy Frost receives a text in the middle of the night from someone calling himself the Jester. She would normally ignore it but something about it feels genuine…and ominous. She awakens Detective Kim Stone who’s ready to close the door on her until she reads the note. Her cop instincts scream that she take it seriously. She assembles her team (it’s the weekend!) and they get to work trying to decipher the challenge. The Jester is threatening to harm someone if they don’t figure out the clue by a certain time.
the heart of the story…
It’s a race against time and the team is losing the real game, even when they figure out the clues in time. They’ve 36 hours to reach the end game. The team really rose to the occasion and it includes Tracy Frost, showing their investigative skills and smarts as they run from one location to the next, solving each clue. I loved the dynamics and how Tracy developed a new appreciation for what they do and vice versa.
the narration…
Jan Cramer continues to be the voice in my head for this series and its characters. This was a particularly difficult story and she managed all those emotional highs and lows with care and depth.
the bottom line…
I was riveted from start to finish as it’s one of the more unpredictable mysteries in the series. It involved geocaching, which significantly evolved during the pandemic. Who knew there were sites and clubs now? But it was the team that shined, even when they were losing face in the press as they were single mindedly focused on finding the Jester and his prey. I feel pretty smug about having guessed the identity but still wasn’t prepared for the emotional ending. Please let the next book be ready soon.
36 Hours is the 21st Book in the DI Kim Stone series and yet again it’s another absolute corker of a read. As soon as I’d finished reading the first chapter, I just knew this was going to be a read full of suspense and intrigue. Well it most certainly was that and a lot more as well. The style of this book is slightly different to the previous ones as Kim and her team are given cryptic clues to solve, they have 36 hours to solve these clues . If they fail then someone dies. As I was so hooked on this book and couldn’t put it down I finished it in one sitting. Another gripping and tense read in this fantastic series. I listened to this via Netgalley audio and the narration was excellent.
36 Hours (Detective Kim Stone Book 21)
A completely unputdownable crime thriller
by Angela Marsons
Narrated by Jan Cramer
36 Hours by Angela Marsons is another thrilling addition to the Detective Kim Stone series, and even as the 21st book, it works well as a standalone. The story starts with journalist Tracy Frost waking Kim with a chilling note threatening lives unless clues are solved within 36 hours. What begins as a potential hoax quickly escalates into a deadly game.
The fast-paced plot, driven by ticking clocks and relentless tension, keeps you hooked. Marsons skillfully balances the darker themes with moments of humanity, making the characters relatable and compelling. The twists and turns, including the identity of the killer, are expertly woven, and even if you guess parts of the mystery, the journey remains gripping.
Jan Cramer’s narration is stellar, adding depth and atmosphere to the story. This dark, emotional, and twisty thriller is a must-read for crime fans, leaving you eager to see what’s next for DI Kim Stone.
very grateful to the publisher for my alc, opinions are my own
Narrator Jan Cramer returns to bring to life the DI Kim Stone series. Racing against the clock, DI Kim Stone and the team are forced to play demented geocaching game to save the life of a homeless man.
At first, I found it a bit slow to get into this book, but once clues started being solved I was hooked. I thought I guessed the culprit and was completely wrong! As always, reading a new Kim Stone book feels like catching up with old friends, and I appreciate we get to see more of Frost. She made me laugh a few times with her asides. I have to say though, that this book cemented Penn for me as the weakest link in the team. While I liked the way he had a 'moment' and to see Kim manage him with empathy was lovely, I find his character bland. I missed the antagonistic dynamic of Dawson which is sorely missing. His character growth was one of the most solid parts of the series.
Jan Cramer really gets into her performance with gusto as she deftly switches between male and female voices, different accents and energy for each character. I'm really impressed by all the voices she had to characterise. I will say though, this might be off-putting to some listeners who may prefer a bit more of a subdued read from their narrator. If so, click the preview button first. I didn't mind it, I rather like listening to the different Brummie area accents. Though at times, I think Kim sounds a bit too 'old' for how I picture her sounding.
Another solid thriller for anyone who loves their crime-solvers part of a tight-knit found family and a great listening experience.
Thanks to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the ARC.
Detective Stone is no stranger to dastardly deeds, twisted games, and evil in all its forms. In this, her twenty-first outing, she's got the biggest enemy of all... A DEADLINE!
Expertly narrated yet again by the fabulous Jan Cramer, 36 hours will have you gripped from the very beginning. Whether you've read all the previous books or this is your first experience, you will love it.
WoW............Another Fantastic book.
36 Hours By: Angela Marsons and narrated by: Jan Cramer is the 21st book in the fantastic Detective Kim Stone Crime Thriller Series and what another excellent audiobook this was. I loved it! Just like the other 20 books within this series has been a 5 star read.
Sunday Mornings are usually for lie ins and relaxing, but today Detective Kim Stone gets a rude knock on her door in the very early hours of Sunday morning. When Kim opens the door, she only finds that it is local Journalist Tracy Frost at the door. Not the person she wants to see and they are not the best of friends! they were arch enemies but over the years they have learned to tolerate each other. Kim is not impressed.
Tracy Frost wants to show her a note she has received. Tracy looks different, she's not wearing her usual smart designer clothes and her designer shoes etc, she is wear scruffy clothes with a few stains on her top, leggings and with trainers! Kim has never seen her like this.........As Kim reads this note her gut tells her this is no hoax.
But, when she reads it again, her blood turns reads the note gives Tracy has 36 hours to follow a trail set by an anonymous challenger. If she fails, people will die. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
WoW!!!!
Kim. summons her team, and is desperate to prevent what lies ahead. With minutes to spare, they solve the first cryptic clue. It leads to a box hidden deep in the woods, containing a second clue and a tape.
But, as she listens to the recording of a heart-wrenching scream, Kim knows her enemy will go to any lengths to achieve his goals. . . . . . . . and that she must draw on all her experience of evil men to understand what is driving him.
Will Kim and her team crack these notes before someone else is hurt or killed!
Tick tock the clock is ticking. . . . . . . . . . . .
WoW this audiobook is excellent.......I loved this book and all of Angela's books However, the narrator Jan Cramer is not the best for this series........the way she starts every chapter and throughout the chapters, she sounds she bored and other books she has done within this series it's the same without feeling for the character/book!........It's a shame as I feel she lets the main character Detective Kim Stone etc down.
I still give this book 5 fat golden stars but for Performance 1 star.

When I got the eGalley for this I was delighted however I was disappointed that I found it only okay where as other readers thought it was WOW.
I do love a good audiobook – so here I am listening to the audio
Detective Kim Stone is awaken at 5 a.m. Sunday morning with someone banging on her front door. It is journalist Tracy Frost who tells Kim she got a disturbing email message at 4 a.m.
The message starts off that is not a joke but instruction for a game that starts at 7 a.m. and ends on Monday at 7 p.m.
~ You have 36 hours. If you follow the instructions, no one will get hurt…
Tracy must give update every six house and posted on the Dudley Star website.
True -Tracy Frost is usually a PIA and not Kim’s dearest friend, Kim fears this is no hoax and summons her team to solve clues. Kim’s team has the same impression of Frost but is willing to work with her if it means saving someone’s life.
I hung in there as there is value in reading a second time. I did pick up things ln the Audio that I didn’t ‘get’ or missed in the eGalley. However, I was not a big fan of the narrator. It never reached the WOW read that I was expected from an author I like~ I have not read all the books in this series but I call myself a DI Kim Stone fan! I am looking forward to #22

Another DI Kim Stone investigation
This is book 21 but works well as a stand-alone too.
I’ve only read a couple,e of Kim Stone book, but tht didn’t matter as this works well enough on its own
In this it start with Kim being awoken by knocking on her door early one Sunday morning.
When she opens the door she I met by local reporter Tracy Frost. It seems her and Stone have some history but again that didn’t affect this story.
Frost has received an email telling her she has 36 hours to follow the instructions and solve the clue, before someone gets hurt. After initially dismissing it as a hoax, DI Stone is persuaded to pull together a team to so,ve the clues. The further they become involved the more obvious it is that this is not a Hoax.
I had worked out who was behind this before the final revelation as well as a side story. However that still didn’t detract from the book
The awful accents were harder to get pst but I managed to do so.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to this title
