Another thriller that gets you hooked in minutes all the way to the satisfying end. So much tension throughout with the dual POVs of the husband, Lachlan and wife, Jenny. They seem like a happy family with their 2 teenaged children, but 20 years of marriage and 2 unsolved murders cases with the husband living close by. Lachlan begins to unravel as the truth begins to come out and Jenny does whatever she can to keep her and her children safe. Not a very suspenseful thriller, but like I said it is an unnerving tension builder. I would definitely recommend.

How well do you know those closest to you? Jenny and Lachlan are happily married, and they have two children. Jenny wants to spend as much time as possible with her daughter before she goes off to college, and they indulge in a true crime documentary. An unsolved murder in her husband's hometown leads Jenny to start asking him if he knew the victim. She soon discovers that he has lived close to two unsolved murders. Is this a coincidence or is something more sinister going on?
Daniel Hurst always delivers a good popcorn thriller that keeps me engrossed and guessing right up until the end, and The Husband was no different. The plot was intriguing, and the characters were well developed. I found myself rooting for Jenny. The story develops through dual narration between Jenny and her husband, Lachlan. We find out early on that Lachlan is hiding secrets, and Jenny takes us along on her journey of uncovering those secrets. I loved Jenny as the female lead. She was out to protect her kids at all costs. This was a really good read!

I discovered Daniel Hurst at the end of last year. He quickly became my favourite author. His books start slowly with normal life circumstances, but soon the story escalates and it feels like almost everything is out of control. I love that his books are not too long. I was immersed in this story, and definitely recommend.

Not a bad read. However I spent the first half of the book wondering why his wife ignored and went against what he wanted. Even if she didn’t understand, why would she not show him some respect? Weird dynamics. Makes sense, I guess.

This one has me wondering, how well do you know your husband and family. Jenny and Lachlan have been married for 20 years and Jenny knows little about his life before they met. I love that Jenny and her daughter get caught up in an unsolved mystery that happened in Lachlan’s hometown.
So many things tip the scales that Lachlan is not a good guy, but you’ll never guess how this one ends. I liked that we saw how it all unraveled from both of their points of view.
My first and not last, Daniel Hurst book. What a discovery!

I'm in the minority on this one. This book was not for me. The writing was good, but it was very dark, and I disliked all of the characters. Many of the things Jenny (the wife) did were not believable to me. I'm sure others will enjoy it.

The Husband by Daniel Hurst
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jenny and her daughter Bonnie are fixated on a new documentary featuring Lachlans hometown where a young girls murderer was never found.
Jenny begins to suspect her husband Lachlan is hiding something when he refuses to visit his hometown. She eventually convinces him to take a trip but once they arrive, his mood quickly shifts. What is her husband hiding?
Mr. Hurst does it again. The Husband is a fast paced thriller you won’t be able to put down.

This book wasn't at a)l what I expected. I thought we'd be wondering throughout the story whether Lachlan is a killer or not. Instead we know almost from the beginning because the chapters alternate between his and Jenny's narrative. This is a really fast paced read with lots of nail-biting moments and I positively raced through it. Again Daniel Hurst has produced a future best seller.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

Is the man you love...a killer?
This is the Daniel Hurst I know and love! And I have read alot of his books and this one is more reminiscent of his earlier work which is what drew me to him in the first place. I was thrilled to be amidst his clever plotting and enthralling storytelling once again. The only thing it lacked was the jaw-dropping twist at the end. I mean, it did have one but it didn't wow me like some of his twists have. But that's not to say that this book was not a 5 star read up to that point...because it so was.
Lachlan is a husband and a dad, married to Jenny with two teenage children - Bonnie (17) and William (15). But he is also a lot of other things too which we, the reader, are privy to almost from the first moment. You see, Lachlan has a problem. He hates rejection. Don't we all? But we don't kill the object of our rejection, do we?
One evening, while Lachlan and William are watching football, Bonnie tells her mum that she wants to watch a new true crime documentary that everyone is talking about. Jenny is reluctant and hardly sees the fascination in death and doom, until something makes her sit up and take notice. The documentary is of the unsolved murder of a 15 year old girl, Paisley Hamilton, from twenty five years ago in a small village in Scotland. The same village from whence her husband came. Bonnie is beside herself with excitement. Her dad would have been 15 at the time of the murder - the same age as the victim - and given the size of the village, chances are he knew her. How cool is that? But Jenny is speechless. How come Lachlan has never told her about it? Surely he had to have known the girl and about the murder. But Lachlan is very secretive about his childhood and never talks about it. Jenny has to wonder why?
When Lachlan emerges from the den after the game's end, he is stopped short by the images on the TV screen his wife and daughter are watching. Images from his past. A place from his past. Immediately, Bonnie pounces on him full of questions. Isn't that the village he's from? Did he know the girl? Does he remember the murder? Why did he not tell them about it? And almost as quickly, Lachlan becomes angry, shouting at Bonnie to switch it off and that it was time for bed. Jenny is once again speechless. Her husband has never reacted like that with the children, so why did he do so now? And why does the documentary make him so angry? What does he know? What is he not telling her? Why won't he answer any questions about his past? And more to the point, what is he hiding?
Energised from watching the documentary, Bonnie suggests they take a trip to Scotland for the weekend and visit his old village which Lachlan immediately shuts down. Which makes Jenny question his motives. What exactly is he hiding? And so she makes the decision that they are going to take a long weekend and visit Carnfield and maybe, just maybe, Lachlan can lay his old ghosts to rest. Lachlan is far from enthused about the idea but his fantasising during work hours leads him to a lightbulb moment; the realisation that this long weekend to Scotland would be the perfect cover for what he longs to do - kill again.
Soon he finds himself in the place where he never thought he would return. And he doesn't like it one bit. Nothing has changed there and yet everything has. Everyone has a theory as to what happened to Paisley in the woods that day. But no one knows the truth. Except the killer. And as the net tightens for Lachlan, what is he going to do? Are Jenny and the children safe? Or is anyone who comes into contact with Lachlan at risk? And will the truth about what really happened twenty five years ago finally be revealed?
This book was brilliant! I devoured it easily in one day and was racing to the end to see how it would all pan out. The pace was fast and the tension was palpable as I swiped every page, desperate to see what would happen next. I loved the setting in a small Scottish village where it seemed there was only a pub, a grocery store and a mechanic. No other premises were really mentioned but of course there had to be cottages dotting the place for the villagers to live but those were the only three really mentioned.
The only drawback with this thrilling suspenseful tale was the ending fell a little flat for me. It lacked the killer twist Hurst is renowned for and although it did have a twist, I didn't find it as jaw-dropping as he has delivered in the past. But this is still a fantastic, brilliant, exciting read from start to finish that I simply devoured. The tension builds as you feel the noose tighten around the husband's neck as you race to the end.
Another hugely entertaining read that was thrilling and captivating from beginning to end.

This book, although slightly slow at the start, kept me reading as it hinted at darker things to come.
I really enjoyed reading it but I didn't think it was one of the author's best as the storyline was quite obvious and a bit drawn out.

A Nail-Biting, Twisty Thriller That Will Keep You Up All Night
From the very first page, *The Husband* had me utterly hooked. Daniel Hurst has crafted a psychological thriller so tense, so full of creeping dread, that I found myself second-guessing everything—just like the protagonist.
At first glance, Lachlan is the perfect husband—devoted, dependable, loving. But when a simple comment from her best friend plants a tiny seed of doubt, his wife can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t quite right. Two unsolved murders. A man with a past he doesn’t like to talk about. A personality that suddenly seems to be shifting. Could it really just be coincidence?
What follows is a relentless, edge-of-your-seat journey into paranoia, secrets, and devastating truths. The tension builds masterfully, layer by layer, as our protagonist digs deeper into her husband’s past—only to realise she might not be prepared for what she finds. The remote Scottish Highlands provide the perfect backdrop for this chilling, atmospheric thriller, adding an extra layer of unease to an already sinister tale.
Hurst delivers multiple jaw-dropping twists, each more shocking than the last. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the story twisted in a direction I never saw coming. The pacing is electric, the suspense unbearable, and the final reveal? Absolutely mind-blowing.
If you love psychological thrillers that make your pulse race—think *None of This Is True* or *The Marriage Act*—*The Husband* is an absolute must-read. Suspenseful, shocking, and completely addictive, this is Daniel Hurst at his very best.

Another heart pounding suspense from Daniel Hurst! This one actually made me feel a little anxious, it was super tense, and I felt trapped in that little town with them. I love Hurst's writing style and the way I always connect to his characters. I was up until 3am finishing this one!!

What a great book! I absolutely loved how twisty and clever this one was! I was totally engrossed from beginning to end and would definitely read from this author again,

Love this author and with every one of his books, he raises the bar! This book was incredible! Fast paced, so very tense and gripping. Brilliant and full of twists. Loved it!

Daniel Hurst is the king of domestic suspense popcorn thrillers. His books always grip me from the start, pack suspense, and have a twist I never see coming. I love some and like others and there’s not been one I’ve read that I didn’t like. They are fast paced and short enough that there isn’t a chance for them to slow down.
This one has me wondering, how well do you know your loved ones. Jenny and Lachlan have been married for 20 years and Jenny knows little about his life before they met. Is he a caring husband or does his secrets shed light on who he really is? I like that Jenny and her daughter get caught up in an unsolved mystery series that happened in Lachlan’s hometown.
So many little things tip the scales that Lachlan is not a good guy, but you’ll never guess how this one ends. I liked that we saw how it all unraveled from both of their points of view. Knowing Lachlan’s thoughts had me disliking him from the start. I related to Jenny, but I waffled back and forth if she was just too trusting. You’ll have to read it and decide for yourself.
This reminds me of either a Freida McFadden or one of Kiersten Modglin’s more suspenseful books. Once you pick it up, you won’t want to put it down.

Daniel has done it again! Fully ready for the twists and turns but NOT all of them. There were still shocks to be had. This was fast paced and all the good things that quick suspense should deliver. Can't wait until everyone adds this to their TBR!

🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Oh another gripping thriller by Daniel Hurst. Love his style of writing and this book in particular tells us a side of the story from a serial killers point of view!
Defo another cracking read
Thank you 🤩

I have read other Daniel Hurst novels and was excited to have the opportunity to read this one! I was not disappointed and couldn’t put this one down

Jenny and Lachlan have two children, William and Bonnie. Bonnie is 17 and preparing to depart for university in the near future, and William, being younger has more studies to go before he graduates .
They are a lovely family living in the United Kingdom,.
There are just a couple of secrets that might cause a problem. But I too will not divulge them. Besides, nobody's perfect, and isn't that what loving families are for? Well, we can't swear for anybody but ourselves, right?
Daniel Hurst is quite the storyteller and has a knack for shifting perfectly normal stories to the extraordinary, thus keeping us immersed in his books throughout the night. There is lots of action .
This book is exciting, clever and extremely well done. I was reading so fast, the words were flying off the pages! I have always liked Daniel Hurst's books and this one is the cream of the crop for me.
Just read it.
Thank you to the author and the publisher for providing me with an advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This was a fun and fast read. I read it all in one day, and had a good time. It wasn't a mind blowing twisted thriller but still so fast-paced and entertaining.
