This charming book is a great way to introduce babies and toddlers to a variety of foods and the different ways that food can grow. I really enjoyed the mixed media imagery; there is a lot of rich detail while still maintaining a simple age-appropriate style for young children. The color design is beautiful and will definitely hold the attention of babies. And while there aren’t many people in this book, there is good representation. I highly recommend this book for ages 0-3, and maybe for curious preschoolers too.
Our Food Grows is a bright and colorful book that, as the title states, shows how various food items grow. It includes some foods that maybe you wouldn't think of off the top of your head. My kids enjoyed learning new facts!
Thanks to The Collective Book Studio and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
Sometimes it does not take a lot of words to teach a huge lesson. Coupled with cute 3D illustrations.. Could easily be expanded upon.
I thought that this book was great!
I really liked the idea behind this book and it gives over some great information to young children. It is a fun read and I can definitely see this being a book that should be in each Primary School. It has a wide variety of food for the limited number of pages (it is a kids book after all) I was pleased to see less commonly eaten food also covered.
The book was well laid out, had some brilliant images and it was nice, bright and attractive - perfect for the age range. It is 5 stars from me for this one - an excellent book - very highly recommended!
I liked that this book was targeted towards a younger audience. However as children begin to grow, they will need to understand more than this book provided. This would be suited for children in the earliest years, say around 6 months to 1 years old. Children past that age would already have the information that this book has given. I really liked the colourful illustrations that support the words however I found the words did not contribute to the picture book.
The pictures were very cute! I enjoyed the cut outs and the different skin tones used. I’ve never seen asparagus mentioned in a kids book and learned something new! The book itself was very basic while teaching little and seems like it might be aimed towards toddlers, but that could be a stretch. I think it’s a great option for something different for young kids to read with their parents! I wish that they discussed more about the process on how to get to strawberry bites! But also enjoyed the interactive nature of the page with all the food. Also loved the corn dog! Overall, I think it was better than some kids books, but needed a little more direction as to where it was going and what it was teaching and think it’s a great way to introduce someone to new foods and where they come from!
