I listened to the audiobook version of this and thought that the 2 points of view of Haze and Fox were both narrated well in the main - although why you would decide someone called Hamish speaks with an Irish accent remains a mystery ๐ but luckily that was a walk-on character!
The idea of a central character who is a serial killer isnโt new but even Jeff Lindsay (Dexter) didnโt come up with a married couple working โto make the world a better placeโ .
I loved the fact that Fox and Haze take parenthood seriously and try to curb their natural instincts in order to make things safe for their daughter. I also loved the fact that they both come from different types of dysfunctional families but neither are asking for reader sympathy to excuse themselves.
Lots of interesting subplots used to create tension, jeopardy and red herrings and a clever way of tying them together later.
Okay, so the story is thankfully far-fetched but itโs not pretending to be what it isnโt. Iโm not sure what the name is for this new type of comic murder fiction - Dark Suburbia? - but it is fun to read.
With thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, Headline Audio and Asia Mackay for an arc of the audio version of this novel.

Thanks to the book publisher and NetGalley, I was fortunate to read this earlier this summer and LOVED it! So when I saw that Georgia Tennant was down to narrate this and bring Haze to life I was desperate to listen. A reread was no trouble, and I love a well-narrated audiobook. Kyle Soller brings Fox to life brilliantly. The plot is brilliant and I was hooked from the opening track, the book jumps back and forth in a dual POV where each narrator has a chapter at a time. I thoroughly enjoyed Georgia as Haze and Kyle as Fox. Haze's wit and sarcasm translated so well when spoken aloud, and having a narrator with an American accent is easier than having to imagine it reading it as a Brit. This is one of my favourite reads in 2024 and new books out in 2025, already!!!
Thank you so much to Headline Audio + Wildfire for the chance to listen to this before it is released. Get the ebook. hardback + audiobook on 14th January when it releases, that cover is incredible and I can't wait to add a copy to my bookshelf when it is!

Having enjoyed various serial killer novel, this was an interesting concept for me two serial killers married to each other and finding ways to stay normal and not kill. The dual pov made it interesting . The start was brilliant as was the ending but the middle got bogged down and lost itself. The narrator did a great job of keeping the plot going . It lacked suspence and some of the plot was so stereotypical in places I was pleased when the action racked up. I liked the introduction of the friend and its complications.. The middle felt too long and unnecessary. It was a relatively short listen and i found myself willing something to happen quicker and for it to have more consequences. Despite the middle this was entertaining and i would recommend it to anyone to enjoys a serial killer concept and can stick with it. Thanks to netgallery, author and narrator.

I adored this setup. Looking inside the mind of serial killers, while they navigate their way as a new family. I loved Hazel & Fox. The quick chapters got me hooked quickly and then you want to see how theyโre gonna get themselves out of the mess! It has such a quick pace story with continued suspense. I couldnโt get enough. Nearly binged it in one sitting! Loved the audio! Highly recommend it!

A couple who kills together stays togetherโฆ or will one of them find themselves under a suburban patio?
Haze and Fox have a mutual hobby of taking out bad men, traveling Europe living an envious lavish lifestyle until Haze falls pregnant and Fox suggests they hang up their knives for the future of their daughter Bibi. What could possibly go wrong?
A Serial Killerโs Guide To Marriage has very similar undertones to How to Kill Men and Get Away With It which for me was great as I really enjoyed both books. I had both available to me as an audiobook and I found the style of the female lead to also be very similar. I really enjoyed Georgia Tennantโs part and I felt like it fitted really well with how I envisaged Haze. Kyle Sollerโs voice was great and they were both very clear and easy to listen to I just felt like the tone didnโt quite sit with how I imagined Fox.
I listened to this audiobook in the car and found myself looking forward to each journey to hear a bit more of the story. It is a bit dark and twisted but I also thought it to be fun and lighthearted.
I will definitely be recommending this audiobook to others.

Hazel and Fox appear to be your average married couple with a baby. Theyโve moved from the city to suburbia where Hazel has joined the baby classes to meet other mums and Fox now commutes to work in the city, whilst avoiding his overbearing and mega rich parents at the other side of the pond. The only tiny little issue is that usually they are globetrotting serial killers, and now theyโre oh so bored! They met while Haze was killing a bad man (because they never kill good people), and they really donโt know how to behave as normal non-stabby adults.
Hazel really, really wants to start killing again but has been banned from it by Fox until their daughter Bibi is an adult so that she wonโt end up in foster care (like Haze did) if her parents both go to jail. Their marriage is strained as she has no patience at all and really doesnโt enjoy the company of the other parents that sheโs now forced to socialise with. Her snarky sass really makes the book a fun read. If youโve ever found yourself mingling with pretentious parents in toddler groups or at the school gates, youโll definitely relate!
Fox has his own issues. His billionaire parents know about his early murders in the US and helped him stay out of jail. Not because they care, just because it wouldโve made them look bad. But now his brother is refusing to play ball in the family business, theyโre trying to blackmail him into returning to the fold.
This is a dark comedy/thriller with elements of Mr and Mrs Smith, Dexter and How to Kill Men and Get Away with It. The characters will make you want to scream โwhy donโt you just talk to each other?!โ but theyโre just trying their best to support each other without having any clue as to what normal should look like. Hazelโs unfortunate friendship with Jenny adds an element of danger and amusement and you just never can relax as the twists keep on coming.
I listened to the audiobook read by Georgia Tennent and Kyle Soller, and I really enjoyed their narration. In fact I listened to the whole book in 1 sitting! Thanks to NetGalley for a free ARC in return for an honest review.

Bizarre and brilliant in equal measure. Two exceptionally nasty individuals are bent on murder for what they believe to be altruistic reasons. I disliked both intensely, but still found them subject to my voyeuristic fascination. How could so seemingly normal people behave like this? How had they ended up married with a chid? Where would this insanity end? The Haze narration was sublime; absolutely perfect for this twisted, self satisfied individual who befriends ( only for her own reasons) Jenny. I enjoyed the portrayal of the yummy mummies and their smug circle, the sycophantic friends who revolved around Haze and Fox like moths round a flame, keen to be part of their glow.
The plotting is extraordinary. I was happily listening to Jenny meandering in her whimpering way about a recent murder in the locality and WHAMโฆthe whole axis turned. Iโd been cleverly lead up a blind alley and didnโt see that coming. Divine. So clever because in many ways the story was running its course but had kept me engaged and then the rest was devoured in a single sitting.
Twisted, dysfunctional, brutal but living in our midst. Itโs possibly not a step too far and it raises some interesting questions about how and why we accept people, interact and fail to challenge. I really, really liked this dark tale of 21st century murder most foul. Bring on some more please!

An intriguing book that improves as it went. I really disliked the main characters and nearly gave up a number of times. By the end I was invested.

This is a 4.5 for me but closer to the 4 side. I really enjoyed this audiobook, it was funny and mysterious and all round nuts. There is an alternative cover that I hate but this cover with the wedding outfit surrounded by tools is brilliant.
Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review.

I absolutely loved the concept of this and found it incredibly fun and intriguing!
This was very character driven and you really got to know the two main characters by the end and what made them tick. I especially loved Hayes and her sarcastic sense of humour that has moments of making me laugh out loud.
The plot left you guessing on where it would end up as it had multiple twists and turns and plenty of red herrings! It did seem to lag a little in the middle but overall it was a fun, fresh story that kept you guessing until the end.
The narrators did a great job at giving each character it's own voice, although at times I did find a few of them a little grating but as a whole I really enjoyed the narration
This is a book I'd definitely recommend to others and I look forward to checking more out by this author in the future!

This is very cleverly written book , and I just loved the audio version. I did go between book and audio which was very handy. I loved how original and different this is. The ending wrapped everything up nicely and this is definitely one to be read in one sitting. I also loved Jenny as a side character! Looking forward to what comes next from the author. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for this arc.

I was immediately interested in reading this book just because of the title!!!! The cover alone was enough to draw me in. It wasn't quite what I expected according to the title, but I was pleasantly surprised with the book and enjoyed the story. It was fun, entertaining and I will definitely be looking into more titles belonging to this author. I have a feeling book two could be on the way and I will definitely be reading it!! Thank you to netgalley for allowing me to review this book.

DNF.
I wanted to love this audiobook because it's narrated by Georgia Tennant, however I could tell early on I was going to struggle as I in no way related to Haze and I loathed Fox... and then we changed pov to Fox and I was done. For a start, I didn't like the narrator for him at all, second, we were in his head and I did not want to be there.
Perhaps I was expecting a more comedic vibe? Or a more.. every day person vibe? but they came across like upper class snobs and I didn't want to read about how much she yearned for life pre-child (but don't worry she loves her child she really does because she tells us this everytime she acts like she really doesn't.)

I really wanted to enjoy this book. It's my kind of read!
But it was so slow. I even tried listening via audiobook. I like the narrator's.
I enjoyed their backstories and I guess the whole point of the book was that life was mundane for Haze but it also made the book incredibly mundane.
The ending was much faster but I'd given up on the book by then and just wanted it to end.

Am a little concerned how much I related to the serial killer wife in this book but well done Georgia Tennant's narration for making it happen! Haze and Fox are a couple of serial killers who met while carrying out a murder years ago and have since settled down in suburbia and neither of them are enjoying the retirement of their shared hobby while they raise their young daughter. There is a lot of family politics happening in the background with Fox's wealthy but estranged American family and Haze meets a new friend at a child group that gets gradually closer and closer. General relationship issues abound and how this is juggled with both members of a couple being a murderer and not trying to let their other half into their secrets until things finally unravel in a very dramatic stand off.

A Serial Killers Guide to marriage is an addicting read, reminiscent of Mr and Mrs Smith, and Dexter.
The juxtaposition of a serial killer couple navigating the mundane day to day, and trying to be upstanding parents makes for some delightfully dark scenarios. On the whole I found Haze and Fox far more endearing and empathetic than I thought I would, which just made this read all the more enjoyable. The ending was spot on, and I also had a chuckle over the acknowledgements.
The production quality of the audiobook was excellent. The dual narration allowed you to really peer into Haze and Foxโs perspectives, really enhancing the more unique aspects of the story. I flew through this audiobook and just couldnโt put it down.
Thank you Headline Audio for a copy of this audiobook. Opinions expressed are my own.

A first read for me from Asia Mackay and I was more than a little pleasantly surprised.
The Mr. & Mrs. Smith similarity is quite obvious, so I wonโt lean in to that too much it was definitely reminiscent of something else that I canโt quite put my finger on. I think there are a lot of similar concepts, but this title stood its ground.
I do love a morally grey character, so a morally grey couple was just double the fun. I must say I related far more to Haze than Fox for the majority of the book, I loved her dripping sarcasm, and I actually wanted her to kill the people she killed. Donโt look at me like that, I know weโve all mind murdered someone ๐คฃ
The mundanity of suburban mummyhood is a far cry from the high fashion, jet setting (if a little bit stabby) life that Haze lived with Fox for so long. So itโs little wonder that itโs all gone off the boil a bit for them. The little flashes back to the past while present day Bibi has just shat herself had me cackling. I loved the development of the friendship with mum chum Jenny. As I said Fox took me a little while to warm to, but toward the end I loved him aswell.
Loved the ending, and the acknowledgments are well worth a read for the laughs.
Clearly pitched as a bit of a domestic thriller, there is obviously some dark content, but I think if you lean into the humour, the little snippets of backbiting between the couple and the actual love story behind it, the hope of staying together, and the aim to save the marriage youโll love it and itโll be a sure fire 2025 winner. Get it on the list!
I donโt like the cover here on goodreads, the one on NetGalley, which I hope is the final edit is much better.
A bit of a triumph to have Georgia Tennant and Kyle Soller narrating the audiobook, both absolutely nailed it.
Huge thanks to Headline Audio via NetGalley for this ALC ๐ง

I really cannot fins fault with this one!!
Hazel (referred to as Haze) and Fox have moved to the suburbs after travelling the world they settle in Berkshire raise their daughter Bibi. Hazel is trying to fit into this new life, and so she does what other mums do and takes her daughter to classes. Haze goes to toddler music class where she meets Jenny, who she accepts as being "fine," as she stated to her husband, although she definitely wasn't used to the suburban life of mums & toddlers. The old life her and Fox lived isn't far from her mind.
Haze met her husband Fox as Haze had noted a man who had been violating another woman previously in the restaurant in Paris. This said man then approached Haze in the alleyway as she left, big mistake on his part. So doing as she did back then she killed him this is where Fox had appeared initially to help what he thought was a woman being targeted by another man only to see she didn't need saving not from other men anyway but maybe from herself! They were what many would initially look at in aesthetics as a power couple, attractive, successful, well maintained, well paired, and they were married 6 months later!
Fox wants this new life to work out for them as a family so they can protect their daughter from all harm and from social services. Their days of being hunters / vigilante of searching out the bad guys like "batman" had to be buried. Fox was raised in NYC, where he was really pushed by his parents to fit in so many different tasks and do better, score higher, etc. Different to Haze, who at 8 years old was put through social services system after her paternal grandmother, who only had her in custody for 3 months before she passed away. Haze loved her art this was a way for her to express herself, get all her emotions out, and escape herself and her life since she was young.
Both had different paths that definitely had some crossovers and interlinked into how they became the people they were.. the killers they had fully evolved into and living before their daughter was born! Eliminating evil was what Fox was born for to make the world a safer place this was how he seen it when he litrally vetted those kills, for him the world was a better place without these types of people in it such as pedophiles, rapists, wife beaters etc. They had a formula, protocols everything planned to military precsion by Fox from their countries to disguises even keeping records to keep them safe but no matter how careful Fox was this life can't continue when you become parents!
Intuition is key and knowing and trusting your senses is what Haze came to rely on when she sees a man in her neighbourhood she knows is just wrong but how do you handle that, call and report it? What would be done and what actually are you reporting other than a knowing! Haze knows what she has to do, for every man who has ever hurt her she will find out the truth if he is as she suspects he is but what will this lead to what will be the consequences....
"Snare rapture torture"
Only ever seeking out the bad guys never killing women in dark alleys...
Fox's well detailed formula that matched up with the types of people Haze also deemed herself judge, jury & convictioner of making them the team that they were in those days of "hunting" they would capture at times Fox would torture and Haze would complete the task of killing. For Haze there was very much a sense of her need to fight back for the life she didn't or wasn't able to fight for as a child a teenager even an adult where males dominated her world.
With her seeking out the men she does and now with Fox alongside her they both feel justice in the kills that they execute together, for Haze she makes it clear how men underestimate the female she isnt merely an artist or a female to be used and abused. For Fox, his mask or disguise is a white businessman who very carefully meticulously calculates all they did to keep them both safe in doing what they did!
Haze built up a form of friendship with Jenny genuinely trying to help her although she couldn't physically take it in to her own hands she could try to help Jenny by advising her how to look after herself in self defence classes, fighting back with legalities in her work life and personal! Jenny was beginning to ask questions about Fox, making Haze a little more aware that Jenny maybe wasn't as "flakey" as she first assumed she was!
Oh, this is soooo good....!!! Twists are just really beginning to pick up pace now. I had a good sense before this began, but whoa, not even halfway through!
"The Backpacking Butcher"
There is a reason I do not believe in just coincidences ๐๐
(This is from me taking notes ๐๐)
I could write so much about this, but ultimately, I'd be giving you a deep synopsis, and that isn't the way I tend to review, so i had to force myself to stop. I just wanted to share it all because this book just was difficult not to get into so much of it when doing the review, so much detail and truly immersive so what I will say is if you like this genre I definitely recommend you find out for yourself...This is really like a version of Mr & Mrs Smith in a very entertaining book!
The way the author has written this is really well done, almost like a journal from both Mr & Mrs, one chapter from Haze the next from Fox, and so it continues. The narration is fantastic and really brings to life this story I genuinely felt like I could envisage this as if it was a movie or at very least a crime drama but wow just brilliantly put together and the narrators Georgia Tennant and Kyle Soller were both oh so perfect for this audiobook.
This is a must-read for next year due to be published on 14th January 2025. This is a first I've read/listened to from this author, Asia Mackay, but it definitely won't be the last she has 2 other books I've added to my ever growing TBR list!
The acknowledgements at the end just made it for me ๐
With much appreciation & gratitude to Netgalley, Headline Audio / Wildfire for the fantastic opportunity to listen to this in advance in return for an open, honest review.
Apologies for such a long review this one simply merited it... ALL THE STARS ๐
