This was my first book by Louise Jenson and I found it to be enjoyable if a little unbelievable at times. There were plenty of twists and turns with a heartbreaking ending.

Louise is one of my favourite authors so I was thrilled to be given the chance to read this. I loved it from the start, full of secrets and lies, I didn't know who to believe! The plot is tight and pacy and I loved the twist. A really good read!

When I started reading this, based on the blurb, I thought it would be quite a different read to what is turned out to be however I mean this in a positive way.. I wasn’t initially convinced by the circumstances in which Luke became Mel, Jen and Amy’s lodger but his story is actually only an element of the first half of the book. There’s an awful amount of secrets and indeed liars in this book, some of which I anticipated but several I didn’t and I really enjoyed the twists and turns this took as so many people could have played a part in Mel’s disappearance. I enjoyed how this was told from different perspectives and with flashbacks helping fill in events leading up to Mel’s disappearance. After a hesitant start I found myself gripped by this twisty thriller which had a somewhat heartbreaking conclusion.

The Liar is told from several different points of view with a well paced plot covering seven days in the life of the Abbott family.

It is a complex story of secrets and lies with some good twists that will have you guessing where the story is going. I was so invested in the story I read it in one day because I couldn't put it down.

I really enjoyed it until about the 80% point when the plot became unbelievable and so I have dropped a star for that but it is still a book I would recommend.

For me this was an unpredictable read.

Luke is very inquisitive about the family he is lodging with, he wants to know everything about them while giving nothing away about himself.

I loved how each chapter told the story of each family member and the twists kept coming.

The ending was an OMG moment and I was excited and surprised.

A good interesting read..

3.5 ⭐

I read a lot of this type of book, so it wasn't too surprising (to me anyway) when I guessed where a lot of the plot lines were going.
It didn't spoil the book for me, I enjoyed the writing, and waiting to see if I was right, or wrong.
I liked the small family of five, how close they were, how Mason was their everything. Felt a lot of warmth there.
The final quarter (?) Of this book really elevated the book for me. I did not predict how it would go, and that's always fun.
Pace and action picked up nicely.
An enjoyable read.

A story about secrets and lie's.
An interesting storyline if a little unbelievable at times.
Well written characters, some more likeable than others.
Not my favourite from this author but still an enjoyable read.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.

Thanks to Louise and NetGalley for allowing me to read The Liar before the publication date.

There are hints about secrets from the start of this book, giving the story an edginess.

The chapters are narrated by each character, giving the reader an insight into some of what is happening in their lives. It is obvious that they each have history which they don’t want to share.

As the story unwinds, secrets and lies are exposed.
I found some of the story to be a little farfetched and less than believable. Overall it is an easy read.

Louise Jensen writes the type of story that keeps the reader engaged and brings them on a twisty path before revealing the truth and as always has managed to keep the eventual suspect a surprise by introducing shadowy figures who have reasons as to why they are a possibility. Apart from the main story there are a few minor ones that the author cleverly brings back together towards the end and leaves the reader to their own conclusions as to what happens after the book ends. Another totally enjoyable read for me and I am already looking forward to seeing what the next book will be.

An emotionally complex story with secrets, twists and turns. A little unbelievable at times, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it.

'The Liar' unf0lds to be a lot more complex and intriguing than I was initially anticipating and I was hooked by it. The start of the book has the plot go in one direction and then as more and more is revealed it completely changes and makes for a very different book. This meant I was absolutely gripped by the read and read this in one sitting. The only thing that let this down for me is some of the events are very unbelievable and the book lost a sense of reality as a result.
However this is still a fantastic read and I really liked the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for an advance copy.

Social Worker Melissa Abbott is a lovely mum. A single parent since the departure of husband Paul, she has not only lived, loved and cared for daughters Jen and Amy, but also taken in Jen’s best friend Camilla and raised her like her own. Always a shoulder to cry on, when Camilla confides a massive secret, Mel immediately acts to make things better. Just as she does with the children in her charge as their social worker.

A book full of secrets and lies, this was a really good read. The plot flowed nicely, and the characters were a mixed bag of hate ‘em, love ‘em! With some good twists too.

I will look forward to reading the finished book on its publication, as this wasn’t a particularly good arc, and some editing still to be done.

Not my favourite by this fabulous author, but still one to recommend.

Thank you NetGalley and HQ.

There are a lot of angles to this book. Jen and Amy’s mom is a social worker and tells them she needs a break. Meanwhile, Luke shows up because he had a deal with their mom to rent a room. But Luke seems suspicious and then girls are discovering things about him that don’t add up.

Jen gets into a situation at school, which results in her suspension. She is terrified two men from her past have resurfaced. Jens friend, Camilla, may also be affected by these men and she is fearful to lose her son, Mason. So many angles, so many connections one never saw coming. It flowed nicely and I really enjoyed it.
