The Mother's Phone Call is a fast paced domestic thriller. Two families, each with teenage children, have grown up together. More like one family than two - but that all changes.

Jo gets a call from her son demanding she comes to him. She finds her in shock - with the neighbour's daughter lying dead at his feet. She calls the police, but did Toby really stab Freya?

Despite apparently compelling evidence it becomes clear that we haven't got the full picture. And all of the main characters have secrets, with several lying to cover up. WIll the truth be uncovered?

This is a short and compelling novel. The pace varies a little, but the revelations and clues come thick and fast as various characters appear to be implemented. But just how far will a parent go to protect their child?

Jo and Eve are neighbors and friends whose children have grown up together. One night Jo’s son is found over eve’s daughter’s body. Toby is arrested. Toby insists he’s innocent and he loved her. Who is to blame? What really happened? What other secrets are these families hiding? Was middle of the road for me.

Oh my, I honestly hope I will never get this kind of phone call from my child! Of course a mother will do the right thing, but is doing the right thing always a good thing? It might be the beginning of the end of the life as you know it at the moment. The little things that went on before are suddenly so futile comparing to what is in front of you now, but you have to make that call, don't you?

You will do whatever to protect your child,so you make the call...

You know the truth will always come out and help those who are honest, so you make the call...

You were best friends with only the street separating you. Now it feels like there is an ocean between you...

This is a story about friendship, lies and cheating ending in the worst possible way.

I loved this story filled with emotions and I never expected this person to be the culprit. Great book. 5 stars

Thank you

Eve and Jo became friends when Jo moved into the house across the street. Their children are friends and grew up as close as cousins.
Then Eve's daughter, Freya is found dead with Jo's son Toby standing over her, in shock. Jo has no choice but to call the police to report her son for murder.

Gosh!! What a fantastic, fast paced, emotional read this is! I literally could not put it down and read it in one sitting.
Tense, heartbreaking and suspenseful, you won't regret reading this book.
There is nothing quite like a mother's love.

I recommend this and award it 5/5 stars.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

This is a story about how far you would go to save your child.
The story revolves around two family's that have been friends for many years.
Well written characters and a read that is full of twists.
Having read everything by this author i found this a good but not her best book in my opinion. There was just a bit to much of looking back to when the children were little and i found some parts a little repetitive.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of The Mother’s Phone Call by Victoria Jenkins due to be published January 16, 2025.

Gripping the phone, Jo’s hands tremble with fear. She looks at her son, Toby, and knows what she must do even though she knows it will destroy her family’s lives forever. 'Hello? I need help. It’s my child. He’s killed someone.' She should be able to keep her children safe. But what she sees in front of her cannot be denied. No one else is here. Her son is guilty. How far will she go to protect him?
I had previously read The Open Marriage by Victoria Jenkins and enjoyed it and was looking forward to this one.
Told in alternating people from several days before and leading up to the murder, you get everyone’s viewpoint in regards to what happened before and what happens after. There were lots of twists, turns, and secrets – the key to a good psychological thriller that had me guessing until the very end – a page turner!

I love Victoria Jenkins books. She is a fine storyteller. They are quick reads and they always have an interesting plot twist. This is a great book to read while sitting by the fire sipping on hot cocoa. Enjoy.
