I really like the crew of The Skylarks, both paid and volunteer. Last year was a very strange year for me and I didn't achieve half of what I set out to do, so it meant that I read the first book in the series (but haven't yet reviewed it) and completely missed the 2nd book! So, with that in mind, I think that this book can be read as a standalone but it would probably be nicer to read them in order :)

When a baby is left at the front doorstep of The Skylarks base, Nadia discovers her. There is nothing with the baby except a piece of paper with a name: Lena. As Nadia wraps her arms around Lena, she finds all sorts of emotions coursing through her body, most of which she had pushed down deep inside of her.

Hudson knows something is happening with Nadia as a result of discovering Lena, as he is a sensitive man and has liked Nadia for quite a while. Unfortunately, he has been through the wringer when it comes to his ex so he is guarding his heart carefully.

These two lovely people slowly find their way towards each other and how that all happens is so sweet :)

I think there could have been a bit more fleshing out of Lena's story, since she was a bit of a catalyst but it doesn't detract too much from this tale.

4.5 stars from me.

In the latest Skylarks Series novel, readers return to the Whistletop River air ambulance station where Nadia loves her job and her team, who have become family. Over in town, patient and family liaison officer Hudson is working on single parenthood as his teenage son’s behavior has spiraled out of control, but the arrival of baby Lena brings longtime friends Nina and Hudson together, and these new feelings might be able to bring them together if they can put themselves and each other first instead of their families. A fantastic continuation of the series, readers will love returning to this cozy community and its character dynamics, while the interactions and growing relationship between Nina and Hudson is absolutely fantastic to follow. Adding in the smaller mystery of baby Lena and other characters’ growth over the course of the novel, Helen Rolfe has once again created a charming and heartwarming atmosphere which readers will love. Character-centric, charming, and entertaining, readers will love returning to this air ambulance team’s base and diving back into these relationships. Emotional, enjoyable, and heartwarming, fans of the earlier books in the series will love this latest instalment and the new adventures in store for Nina and Hudson.

Back with the skylarks team. This story focuses on Nadia and Hudson. A baby arriving on the station doorstep sparks a lot of memories for Nadia. Hudson is facing his own challenges with his son following his recent divorce.

Something in the Air is the third installment in Rolfe's Skylarks series. As always it was a thoroughly enjoyable read and worthy of a fabulous five stars.

We find ourselves back in Whistlestop River where we reconnect with the crew of the air ambulance service. A few pages in and it was like I'd never been away.

Nadia and Hudson were such great characters to emotionally invest in and I immediately took them to heart after reading their back stories.

A wonderful addition to the series cementing Rolfe up there as one of my favourite authors.

I am always excited when I have a new Helen Rolfe book in my hands, in this case it’s the newest addition to the Skylark series, focused around the Air Ambulance and Nadia and Hudson. As I love from Helen this book was emotional, both heartbreaking but also heartwarming and ultimately uplifting, I love a book that draws tears and smiles and there’s so much emotion here.

Whilst I adored Nadia, Hudson stole my heart completely, such a solid and supportive man, despite his own problems , he never hesitated to be there for Nadia. There are plenty of lighthearted moments and humour too, so much great community going on in the friendships between the crews and how they deal with serious situations and somehow still come back down to earth (no pun intended) and deal with everyday life.

Another fantastic and enthralling story from Helen, full of drama , emotions and real life, always looking forward to the next and going back to her previous books whilst waiting for the next !

When a baby is left on the doorstep of the Air Ambulance base in Whistlestop River, Nadia, the Operational Support Officer is the person who finds it. For Nadia, seeing the barely two weeks old baby abandoned is a bit triggering. Whilst she is a very generous and open person with her fellow team members, she is a closed book when it comes to her past.
Patient and Family Liaison Nurse, Hudson, is also somewhat secretive about his private life. He hasn't told the team that he is now divorced from his ex wife Lucinda and is the primary carer for his two children. His young daughter, Carys, seems to have mostly adapted to the situation with her parents but fifteen year old Beau is more difficult. He is quite moody and uncommunicative and doesn't seem to appreciate the fact that Hudson has had to work more hours in order to help keep the roof over their heads.

As far as Nadia knows, Hudson is happily married, so she is trying very hard to not be attracted to him, but it is difficult because he is such a great guy, both because of his role helping families but just because of who he is. When Hudson sees that Nadia is quite affected by finding the baby, he is keen to help her, and to understand why.

When Nadia left her past behind, she was determined that it would stay there, but as a result of an interview that she does about finding the baby, someone turns up that she would rather not see, and it is Hudson that supports her.

Hudson also has his own issues to deal with, particularly in relation to co-parenting and Beau's attitude. Do either of them have time to pursue anything more than just friends?

I really like reading about the work that the Skylarks do, for example, the emergency situations that they deal with. It was also interesting to see some of the other roles. For example, Hudson is the person who often has to explain to the families about what actions were taken, and what might happen next and Nadia's role including managing volunteers, organising fundraising events and so much more.

It was good too see updates from some of the characters from the previous two books in the series, and I hope to see them again soon!

Something in the Air by Helen Rolfe

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

Working with the Whistlestop River air ambulance is Nadia's whole world. She adores her job and the team – they’re family. But when a baby is abandoned on the steps of the base, Nadia is forced to confront events from her past she’d rather forget.

A difficult change

Hudson is trying to get his life back on track after his divorce. It’s not easy juggling his work as a patient and family liaison officer and being the primary parent for his children. He wouldn’t change it for the world. But when his teenage son’s behaviour spirals out of control, Hudson begins to wonder if he can really be there for everyone who needs him…

A chance for something special?

Nadia and Hudson have always been friends, but the arrival of baby Lena pushes them closer than ever, and as their feelings start to grow, they’ll have to decide – do they have space for love when their families need them? And could they put themselves and each other first, just this once?

My Opinion

Something in the Air is the third book in the Skylark series and I would recommend reading the books in order to maximise enjoyment. Once again Helen Rolfe has written a book that is impossible to put down – I read it in one day. It was difficult not to feel sorry for Nadia but the difficult topics have been handled delicately. A fantastic addition to the series.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Something In The Air' by Helen Rolfe.

What another absolute stunner from the extremely talented Helen Rolfe!! Well done Helen on yet another absolutely beautiful and perfect read!! This is the ideal escapism where you could sit there and turn around and just imagine everything coming to life around you. This is the third book in Helen's 'The Skylark' series but can be read as a standalone. i have previously read the first book in this series which is called 'Come Fly With Me' and would highly recommend it. I always recommend that you read books in a series in order but there is a silver lining. If you have not read the previous two books in this series then after you have finished and fallen in love with this book, which you are guaranteed to, you can go back and read it while you are waiting for Helen's next success to come out!!

This book is extremely well written with beautiful descriptions that completely drew me in. The synopsis and the cover match the storyline perfectly!!

This absolutely wonderful book completely swept me away. I loved the first book in this series 'Come Fly With Me' and this book is just as stunning. I cannot wait to go back and read the second book in this series which I have not had a chance to yet but it is called 'Written In The Stars' so keep your eyes peeled for my review on that book! I absolutely adored the storyline and getting to know the lives of so many different people, seeing their relationships and friendships change and see how they react to secrets, heartache, changes, drama, romance and everything else that goes on in this absolutely fantastic read!! I adored the fact that it was mainly based around an air ambulance team with the main protagonists being a member of the air ambulances' ground team as well as being a former nurse. Apart from this series I have yet to read another book with an air ambulance team. I was just absolutely fascinated by the different situations and scenarios going on. Along with the pilots and critical care paramedics we get to meet and learn more about the lives and relationships of all of the characters that I met and have been missing from 'Come Fly With Me'. I've not been to Dorset for several years and missed it before I read this book but OMG Helen has made me want to jump in the car and go straight back now!!! Her evocative writing skills ensures the readers are absolutely sucked into the stunning storyline with the atmosphere and characters coming to life all around them. I absolutely fell in love venturing back into Dorset, especially "seeing" it from the skies and Helen's vivid descriptions are absolutely perfect and evocative. I became so invested in this book that it actually felt like going on a holiday and I absolutely dreaded coming to the end where I had to unpack my suitcase and get back to reality. It was an absolutely compelling and addictive heart lifting read that kept me turning the pages until late at night. I loved discovering more about the pasts, secrets and histories of the characters and I was absolutely swept away in the story line. Everything and everyone came to life around me and I cannot wait to return in the next book in this absolutely stunning series. This really is the perfect start to it! This book really was an emotional rollercoaster ride filled with friendship, family, drama, medicine, love, secrets, affairs, romance, drama, heartache, emotions and everything you could ask for!!! The fact that Helen has done her research when it comes to the air ambulance and hospital environments completely shines through so a HUGE well done to Helen. It is a massive shame when authors don't do enough research into their chosen topics and/or environments and their books are then littered with unnecessary mistakes as it really can spoil a book that would otherwise be fantastic. This book is escapism at its best and is a perfect way to disappear into an amazing world for a while. It is one of those books that I just could not put down and drive everyone mad by walking around reading it every chance I got and ended up devouring it in one sitting!! This book would make an absolutely gorgeous movie which I would absolutely love to see!!

Another absolutely gorgeous, page turning and addictive book in this stunning series!! Don't even peek into this book until you've cleared your schedules as you won't be able to put it down!!

I was completely invested in the characters, along with the storyline, who were all, well almost all, absolutely fantastic with their own individual personalities and quirks. Every one of the characters had a part to play and they were all completely unforgettable. I really enjoyed getting to know more about most of the characters and when I came to the end I felt like I was leaving amazing people and new friends behind and felt quite sad about that but am happy in the knowledge that this book is just one in a stunning series and I just can't wait to get stuck into more of these gorgeous books. I loved watching how so many characters, relationships and personalities develop and change from the first page to the last. They all made me laugh, swoon, angry, cry, joyous and much more!!! Regardless of whether you love them or hate them all of these characters work perfectly together to make this a stunning page turner and I cannot wait to return to Dorset to meet them all again!!

Congratulations Helen on yet another absolutely gorgeous success!!! I'm definitely looking forward to my next holiday to Dorset and cannot wait for the next book in this series!!! This is the exact reason you are in my favourite author club and here is to your next success 🥂 !!!

Overall a gorgeous start to what promises to be a stunning new series with an amazing gang of characters that will sweep you away to the gorgeous Dorset from the very first page to the end!

Something in the Air is part of the Skylarks series. However, it works as a standalone book. I read it without reading the others and did not feel as though I was missing any important information.

Though the book feels like a romance the actual romance is not the main focus of the story. This book is well written and easy to read.

For me, it did not have enough tension to hold my interest for long. I found that even though I was interested in the story I could put the book down. The back story was not as compelling as I would have liked.

Despite that, this is a quick and easy read. If you are a fan of contemporary fiction with some romance then this book is worth a read.

The red team and the blue team alternates to be on duty at the Whistlestop River air ambulance, along with Hilda, their helicopter, they are alert and waiting for the next call that requires their assistance.
Nadia and Hudson hav been friends and co-workers for some time, an unexpected situation presentes itself that brings them together, with remembrances from both their past lives.
I really love this medical story, it is a unique work place setting that I really enjoyed.

This was my first book in the Skylark series so I have missed some of the back story about the Whistlestop River air ambulance and some of the characters, but this did not negatively affect my reading and enjoyment of this book, it works perfectly as a standalone story about Hudson and Nadia and their relationship, so don’t worry if you are in the same position as I am.

This is a story about two people who have been burnt by relationships in the past and are afraid to take that step towards intimacy again. They are both hiding things to protect themselves from hurt, cushioned in the loving and supportive atmosphere of the air ambulance family, but their growing feelings for each other are going to force them to confront their past hurts eventually, because we all know that love refuses to be ignored!

I love the characters of both Nadia and Hudson. I have such a clear picture of Hudson in my head from the author’s description of him, both physically and emotionally, and I am completely in love with him myself, so I can understand why Nadia is drawn to him. He is exactly the kind of man that second-time-around women would love to find. Having been through divorce with two young children, his situation resonated so strongly with me, it brilliantly and accurately written. I felt so sorry for Nadia and her family situation. Again, it was something I could relate to (in not quite such a dramatic way) and Helen has really captured how complicated family dynamics can be and how much guilt goes with that when people struggle to make it work with people they love. Here are two people who desperately need each other and you just know they are going to be so good together, I was cheering them on from the start.

This is a gentle, undemanding story for romance readers to enjoy, but it has so much truth and understanding at its heart that it is absolutely impossible not to love it if you enjoy this genre. I wasn’t too sure at the beginning, partly I think because I had not read any previous books and was not invested in the characters, but this was a situation that was quickly reversed and I could not more have needed things to work out for these two if I had known them personally. It’s like reading about your best friends, so pull up a chair, get a cuppa and let this author tell you what is going on with two people you really care about.

I really enjoyed this book. This is the first time I have read anything by Helen Rolfe, and I was not disappointed. She did an excellent job with the characters and story line. I also loved her writing style because it flowed so well. I can't wait to read more from this author. I definitely recommend this one to other readers.

Thank you Net Galley ARC, Boldwood Books and Helen Rolfe

Nadia is a key member of the ground staff at the air ambulance base at Whistlestop River, a former nurse, always calm and in control – although the presence of Hudson, their family liaison officer, can make her a little hot under the collar, while knowing that his complicated family life puts him firmly off limits. But when abandoned baby Lena – obviously well cared for, in a cardboard box and with a note bearing her name – is found outside the doors of the base on a very cold night, it brings back particularly painful memories. And while struggling with all the feelings that have been rekindled, her secret past begins to catch up with her in the most unexpected way – with the possibility that she has a closer connection to the foundling that anyone realises.

There’s a lot of heartache and raw emotion in this book – Nadia’s situation repeatedly had me in tears, and I so wanted everything to work out well in her life. And Hudson proves to be her rock through it all – while problems with his difficult ex-wife and a teenage son who’s going off the rails mean he also has a great deal to cope with in his own life (and he does it SO well – what a lovely man!). But there are plenty of lighter moments too, of camaraderie and banter among the crews, fundraising events and celebrations.

Yes, there’s a tentative romance, perfectly handled and very real – but there’s also a great deal of well-written drama as Nadia’s scenario unfolds and also through the day-to-day situations encountered by the air ambulance crew. The author’s research, and the way she uses it to bring both the quiet and dramatic moments vividly to life, is really excellent – when I finished this book, I felt like I’d spent time on the Whistlestop River base, and had a real understanding (and admiration) for the situations they handled so efficiently and in such a matter-of-fact way. The friendships between the team members constantly warm the heart – and although some of them have continuing stories, and I’d missed some of the background, there was enough gentle catching up with anything I really needed to know.

Such a lovely read, and this is a series I’d thoroughly recommend if you enjoy the same books that I do – I’m just really looking forward to the next book in the series.

A beautiful story about two friends. They also happen to be co-workers.
Main characters, Nadia and Hudson, have had some difficult times in their past.
Can they go forward and heal past hurts?
I think this would be a fun series to read. This is my first book in the series and I hope to catch up with the other books soon.

Thank you NetGalley, Boldwood Books and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I loved and thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

The story is set at Whistlestop River Air Ambulance and is mainly about Nadia and Hudson. Nadia loves her job and after what happened in her past, is settled in her life. But, that changes when someone from her past visits her and she then has to relive what happened years ago.

On the other hand, Hudson is trying to balance his personal and work life and to be there for his children after his divorce.

They’re good friends, but, do they both feel more for each other?

The characters were relatable and i liked how friendly they were to each other.

There was some happy and sad moments, a well written story.

I highly recommend this book.

I love all Helen’s books and this third in the Skylarks series is fabulous. The Air ambulance crew set in Dorset are hard working people each with their own stories.
Nadia is an administrator who lives alone but plays a huge part in what she believes is her family on the base. Secrets about her past that she had kept private begin to unravel as a Sister she hasn’t seen for decades goes missing. As this remarkable story unfolds her life is transformed with new beginnings.
