UNIQUE! That’s the first word that comes to mind as I was reading through this cookbook. The graphics and images are absolutely adorable and so cutesy cartoon like, which is such a fresh way to present the recipes. I also felt like there was a lot of information provided for those that aren’t familiar with traditional style ramen. A personal touch that adds to the cookbook were the authors notes/tips above each recipe.

You’ll find a variety of recipes for Japanese rice, appetizers and every type of ramen that you could ever want. While there are some ingredients that are obviously going to be found at Asian markets, I feel like everything could be very accessible regardless of the reader’s location. The recipes seem very easy to follow with detailed steps and I can’t wait to make one for my family. The roasted garlic butter ramen, maybe with shrimp, sounds like heaven to me.

Loving the artstyle and the content is super helpful!!!! All the instructions, little background for each part, steps by steps are all crystal clear. Informative and as a ramen lover myself, sparks many ideas how I may cook my ramen ✨

What I think could make this book better is little illustrations/drawings on too spacey pages so it doesn't look too empty. And it would be perfect if each kind of ramen has its own illustrations. Some pages are upside down I hope it's fixed in the final product.

Thanks so much for the arc in exchange of honest review 🫶🏼

It takes a lot for me to enjoy and love a cookbook. Apart from doable recipes I expect an organising thought around them, author's passion about the contents, as well as an aesthetically pleasing design. "Kawaii Café Ramen" ticks all these boxes.

At the beginning I was afraid that this book would be too "americanised", focusing a lot of attention to educate an US-based reader on what ramen is and what to compare it to. Luckily, this wasn't the case. The author took her education and experience and packaged it well without dumbing the content down.

The recipes were well-organised and I appreciated a robust meatless section that I could take a lot of inspiration from. I've tested some recipes and they turned out great. I can't wait to try more!

This cookbook includes a wide variety of ramen recipes, with different types of flavors and levels of complexity. It's also really informative as we get to learn a bit about the history behind ramen and noodles!

The book is also really well structured, explaining how to make the soup bases, noodles and various toppings to then show how they can be combined in one recipe. The recipes are easy to follow with really clear instructions and ingredients that are fairly accessible.

The illustrations are also adorable and colorful, which makes this cookbook a very fun and cute one to read! I would highly recommend this to people who are looking to learn how to make super flavorful ramen!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC!

This cookbook is a heartfelt celebration of love and care, evident in every detail. The adorable illustrations and thoughtfully designed layout make it not only functional but also a joy to explore. I especially appreciated the indicators for recipe difficulty, serving sizes, and prep time—they're incredibly helpful for choosing recipes that fit your schedule or experience level.

The variety and creativity of the recipes are truly impressive. Whether you're a ramen enthusiast or a first-timer, you'll find the steps simple to follow and the results deliciously rewarding.

This is a fantastic cookbook for anyone looking to dive into the world of ramen or expand their culinary repertoire.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Rock Point for providing me with this ARC.

Thank you NetGlaary for this ARC.

This was an adorable cookbook that really shows the wide variety in Ramen. The illustrations were such a nice touch. The instructions on creating each different bowl was easy and clear to read. I appreciated the fact that the author kept all the Japanese names of the different ingredients and provided the translation into English. There were so many different variations I had never heard of. I enjoyed the personal touch and story on each page by the author. I definitely learned something on the history of Ramen and I am excited to go back to Japan and go on a tour! Loved seeing my favorite hiyashichuuka!! Thank you again NetGalley and lovely book Amy Kimoto-Kahn!

I really enjoyed looking through this cookbook- we are a Household who are a huge fan of ramen and this book did not disappoint. We’ve already tried a few of the recipes out and they were delicious!

A beautifully produced book with lots of recipes for cooking ramen and lovely illustrations. Having read it, I've come away thinking that, for me, ramen is a restaurant dish because there's quite a bit of advance prep and lots of little things to get ready (rather than something like a stew where you put everything in the pot and leave it to cook away by itself).

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Kawaii Cafe Ramen is a ramen cookbook that is divided into several categories: (1) Ramen Soup Bases & Noodles; (2) Ramen Toppings; (3) Pork, Chicken, & Beef Ramen; (4) Seafood Ramen; (5) Vegetable Ramen; (6) Spice & Cold Ramen; and (7) Sides. The 3 - 6 categories give recipes for a complete ramen bowl but the author makes it clear in the beginning that you can substitute different broths or toppings based on your preferences. There is also a page that says it is an exercise for assembling a bowl of ramen after you've made a base and some toppings so you have a model to follow if you are unsure about putting together your own creation. The book is set up wonderfully - each recipe lists a level, serving size, and prep time clearly at the top. Everything is spaced out well so it's easy to follow. Many recipes also have a listing of what you should make in advance. The design is also really cute and fun with several cartoon pictures throughout. I have a pork intolerance and many ramen recipes use pork but there are still lots of recipes that I am excited to try and I can easily switch up the meat to something that I can eat. There were several pages that were either upside down or sideways, which I would expect to be corrected in the final version. I have already pre-ordered the physical copy of this book as my nieces love ramen and one of them really enjoys cooking!

Thanks to NetGalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

What I Liked:
-The illustrations
-The recipes, even when they had some harder to find ingredients in North America, I knew of or could easily google alternatives
-Recipes are short and easy to follow without a lot of filler wording

What I Didn't Like:
-I wish there were illustrations for every recipe

This was a cute way to create a cookbook for ramen, the flare of anime styled graphics added to the theme very well. I would love a physical copy of this book so I can try to make some of these recipes myself. They were easy to read and understand. I look forward to one day owning this book physically and tasting the recipes I try from this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Rock Point for an ARC of this book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is an adorable cookbook, with delightful illustrations. It was so incredibly cheerful and bright, and would be a perfect book to pull out on a cold gloomy day.

The recipes were well explained, and easy to understand. Depending where you live, some of the ingredients can be harder to find if you don't have an Asian Grocery Store nearby.

I do think an advanced beginner could cook all the recipes, it would be much easier to follow if you already have some of the basics for Japanese cooking under your belt.

I loved the huge variety of flavors and testures, and I plan on making quite a few of the recipes!

Unfortunately there were some formatting errors in my copy, and some of the paged were flipped sideways or upside down and impossible to read on a computer.

✒️📖ARC REVIEW📖🖋️

This cookbook reminds me of the deepdives on foods that Alton Brown used to do on Good Eats. Amy has done something similar, but with ramen.

Breaking down the different kinds of broths/bases that can be used, toppings, and noodles, and showing how to build up a perfect bowl of ramen. After going through the basics there are sections in the book for red meat, poultry, seafood, and vegetable ramen depending on one’s trastes and dietary restrictions.

There are a variety of levels of recipes within the book as well as sides (fried tofu, the cucumber salad that has recently struck the internet, and scattered sushi). This was a nostalgic, nonfiction, anecdotal take on making ramen.

The instructions are very clear and laid out well on the pages. There are also several cute illustrations of the food!

I will for sure be incorporating several of the recipes to level up my ramen game in an effort to taste something similar to what I had in Japan over a year ago.

Thanks, Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point | Rock Point, for the advanced review copy via #NetGalley (available 14 Jan 25*).

Hubby and I recently discovered how much we love ramen, and this cookbook helped us understand what each ingredient contributes to the dish and how to prepare our own at home.

Cookbook author (and food blogger at easypeasyjapanesey.com) Amy Kimoto-Kahn compiled a user-friendly, approachable, and well-organized ramen cookbook that covers everything a ramen lover needs to know, including the four soup bases, noodles, and traditional (and non-traditional) ingredients. The anime-style illustrations are adorable and would make this cookbook extra gift-worthy.

*Note: this book was first published in 2016 as SIMPLY RAMEN.

This book is full of recipes from soup bases, noodles, sides, toppings with traditional and non-traditional ingredients all shown with adorable anime-style illustrations. There are difficulty ratings, serving sizes and prep times that are perfect for planning your meal. California Ramen and Crispy Soft-Shell Crab Ramen are two we want to try first!
