Okay but WHY did this book give me chills at midnight?! The suspense was deliciously unsettling, and I was flipping pages like a madwoman trying to figure out what was real and what was manipulation. If you love your thrillers dark, twisty, and full of creeping dread—The Student is for you.

Francesca, a university student haunted by her parents' tragic deaths, seeks a fresh start in a new town. Struggling financially, she accepts a ghostwriting job for a secretive client known only as Dr. B. As their collaboration deepens, eerie parallels between the fictional narrative and her own life emerge, blurring the lines between reality and fiction. When her oldest friend disappears, Francesca realizes that Dr. B knows more about her than she's comfortable with, leading her into a chilling game of cat and mouse.

Thank you NetGalley, H.M. Lynn, and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to enjoy this deliciously suspenseful four star read in exchange for a review.

The Student by H.M. Lynn is was so good!! If you like mystery, thrillers, college students, mysterious author, whodunit then you will love this book.

Lynn did a great job with this book. The story line and plot were done so well. Francesca is a college student and lives with her musician boyfriend. To make some extra money she decides to become a ghost writer for a mystery author. There were so many twists and turns I even started to think maybe Francesca was losing her mind. This book will keep you hooked from the first page to the last. Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for letting me read this book in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions.

THE STUDENT By H.M. Lynn

I’ve spent years running from my past.
After what happened to my parents, I needed to start fresh, far away from the whispers and stares. Now, as a struggling university student, I barely scrape by, living in a new town where no one knows me or the tragedy I’ve tried to forget.
To make ends meet, I take on a ghostwriting job for a high-profile client. But as I work with this mysterious person more, their ideas hit too close to home. It’s as if they know everything about me, even the darkest parts of my past.
When my oldest friend goes missing, I realise I can't trust this client. But I can't escape their hold on me.
Because they know how this story ends. I survived once, but can I survive this?

I had such high hopes for this one. I struggled to connect with the main character. I also found the ending to be predictable. I liked it but I couldnt say I loved it.

A brilliant fast paced page turner that I found very hard to put down, it gripped me from the very first page.

Interesting premise. Should she trust her instinct or let her boyfriend pacify her into not believing a friend who is clearly desperate for help....who to believe? Well written, kept me interested all the way through.

Well, this was so fast paced at times that it was hard keeping track of all the happenings! Also too many pages of repetitive meanderings, which didn't do anything to the story line. A good book but let down by the sudden unexplainable, strange ending! Still trying to work out how this would/could happen.......a little bizarre!
Many thanx to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for allowing me to read and review this book

H. M. Lynn has quickly become an author I’ll gravitate to with any book that is released. The Student is my second book from H. M. Lynn and just like the first I was blown away!

The twists were amazing, I thought I had it worked out and then something else came along. The story was dramatic, tense and absolutely wild.

I like this author as I know I can get my head in a book and find it easy to get lost in. The chapters are nice and easy to read and are short enough for me to fly through. I read this book so quickly and I will always go back to the anthropology time and time again.

I highly recommend reading The Student!

Frankie has had a bit of rough past and following the death of her parents she is now attending University on a scholarship but barley scraping by. That is until she is offered a job as a ghost-writer for a high-profile client called Dr B. Frankie has no idea who this client is and he only communicates with her via a distorted voice on an app, so she has no idea just who she is really dealing with.

The job pays her good money, but writing he asks of her hits a little too close to her past, how is it that they can write a story with so many similarity's to her life?

This was quite a quick book to get through as the chapters were short, the twists where there but sometimes how Frankie acted to certain events just didn't sit right with me, but that ending twist! oh my!

This is the first time I have read a book by H. M Lynne so didn't really know what to expect. I loved how quick paced and simple the plot is, it was very easy to emerge yourself into the story. Plenty of twists along the way and it makes the reader think one way then completely throws them off by revealing the outcome. A very good read.

The Student by H.M. Lynn is a gripping, atmospheric psychological thriller that delves deep into the secrets of a haunted past. The protagonist, a university student running from the trauma of losing her parents, is just trying to rebuild her life in a new town. But when she accepts a ghostwriting job from a mysterious high-profile client with one strange condition—their identity must remain secret—things quickly spiral into a nightmarish situation.

The story builds tension with every page as the client’s distorted voice becomes more unnervingly familiar, revealing unsettling knowledge about the protagonist’s dark history. As the pressure mounts, she’s forced to confront the skeletons in her closet while trying to uncover the true identity of this client—someone who seems to know far more than they should. When her oldest friend goes missing, everything she thought she knew about her life is thrown into chaos.

Lynn masterfully creates a sense of dread and paranoia, keeping readers hooked as the protagonist unravels a mystery that feels dangerously close to home. The psychological twists are well-executed, making it hard to trust anyone, including the narrator herself. The Student is a chilling exploration of guilt, trust, and the haunting power of secrets, making it a must-read for fans of intense, character-driven thrillers.
