I did enjoy this book. There were lots of twists and turns that draw us in. Unfortunately I found it a bit slow in the middle. But it picked up again at the end!
This was a really engaging psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns that kept me completely hooked from start to finish. I devoured this in one sitting because I just needed to get some closure! The short chapters and fast paced really lend themselves well to creating some suspenseful drama here.
There were some pretty interesting twists and turns here, while I did see where things were going early on, I still really enjoyed this as I wanted to know how it would all work itself out.
Overall, if you’re looking for fairly quick and engaging psychological thriller then this is definitely worth taking a look into
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing me with this free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Uni student Frankie is offered a ghost writing job, but when she discovers that her "employer" uses a voice changer and keeps the camera off, she knows something is off and tries to back out of the deal, but she has been paid and is obligated to continue. Things go from bad to worse when the plot is discussed and has chilling similarities to Frankie's own traumatic past. It is clear that this is someone who knows her, but who?
This started and ended strong, but was slow in between and I found it boring in parts. A good edit and this would be an incredible thriller! Neverless, it's worth a read and I had no inkling of who the person employing Frankie was, so the reveal was a jaw-dropper.
3 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, H. M. Lynn and Boldwood for an ARC in return for an honest review.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Student - H.M. Lynn
Ok, it’s early 2025 - but this surely has to be a firm contender for Book Of The Year!
Completed in just two sittings, this had me on the edge of my seat! A main character brought to the edge of insanity - and a twist that I certainly didn’t see coming.
Expertly crafted to make sure the pages turn themselves, it was pacy, tense, dramatic - it had it all!
Would make an excellent TV thriller too……I’ve got my fingers crossed! 🤞🏼
HM Lynn has a few pen names and writes in a few different genres, but it's clear she's a talented writer and this psychological thriller is testament to that. I read the whole of The Student in one day and I couldn't wait to find out the answers to the questions that HM Lynn poses throughout this story.
The narrator of The Student is Frankie. It is clear from the outset that her life has been shaped by trauma and l wanted to know more about that and how it influences her behaviour in the present day. It also meant that I was never completely sure that she was a reliable narrator, and I was never sure whether I could trust her, or whether the dishonesty lay with one of the other characters. Each character is really well developed and I really enjoyed trying to guess where everyone fit in. I loved how the author made me think twice about this; it kept me hooked from beginning to end.
The Student is easy to read, but it only fully comes to life around half way through, as the author lays a lot of groundwork for us to try and figure out what is happening. However, once it bursts into life, it does not let go and there are several twists which left me reeling. I had no idea where the story was going and I absolutely did not guess the ending!
Wow I loved this I was gripped from start to finish I could not put it down. It was definitely one of those thrillers which has you on rollercoaster of suspense. Twist after twist which I didn’t see coming. There was nothing I didn’t like I loved the pace the unique story how well developed the characters were written.
Francesca is a grad student who is offered an opportunity to ghost wrote a novel for the mysterious clinet. She needs this job as she is struggling for money. Francesca has ran from a past were her father killed her mother and then killed himself. When she is interviewed by the client Francesca is creeped out by some of questions asked. She decides she doesn’t want the job but that isn’t her choice to make now.
I will be recommending to everyone I loved it so much and can’t wait to read more from this author. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this amazing book.
Thank you NetGalley! I thought the title was a bit misleading as I could picture the main character much older than a regular college student. That being says, I did enjoy the plot and had no idea about the twist until it hit me in the face
This was a book. It kept me guessing. The ghostwriting aspect was interesting. I would read more books by this author.
This book did not do it for me. The plot was super obvious - I guessed what was going to happen from teh very beginning, so the rest of the book was kinda painful to get through. Frankie was SUPER unlikeable and impossible to connect with, which made the book even more challenging to read. I did like the short chapters as it kept things somewhat moving, but nonetheless, it was just too predictable.
3.5⭐
The Student is about a girl names Francesca (Frankie) who is a university student, who had a very bad past, faces another shock of her life when she gets a job as a ghost writer.
Though it is a fast paced book, the supporting characters lags a little in terms of a story. It is only mainly focused on Frankie and her life. It was a interesting read to be honest.
Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for giving me this copy.
Great thriller with lots of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was an interesting book with an unusual story . I really enjoyed this book , was intrigued right from the beginning and it only got better the longer it went on . I loved the characters and the pace of the book . The ending was unexpected for me and left an unanswered question which in itself is intriguing. I would definitely recommend this book and I’m so pleased I had the chance to read this before publishing. Five stars from me
WELL.... that certainly had a kick to it. This is the second book by this author, I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Physcological thriller wasn't it just!!!
Definitely lots of twists, didnt see the end coming. One to read if you havnt allready. Highly recommend
Francesca has been running from her tragic past that involved the death of her parents. She is a university student on a scholarship. she applies to be a ghost writer. The interview takes place online, and the unknown male speaks through a voice changer. The questions were quite probing, and Francesca eventually opted out, thinking the whole process had been a prank. But she is later told that she has the job. She is asked to write a dark thriller with elaborate murders, but to make them look like tragic accidents. Then the murders start happening in real life and Francesca is under suspicion.
The chapters in this book are quite short. There were some good twists. The client who hires Francesca to be a ghostwriter knows a lot about her. The story is action-packed, fast-paced, and a bit predictable.

Sizzles with tension, desire, and a forever-escalating sense of menace! Let this supremely enjoyable thriller whisk you up, up and away. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book has a wave of mystery to it! The character in the book suffers from memory loss as she struggles to figure out what has happened in the past. This all occurs while she is having issues in the present where people are gaslighting her. I really enjoyed this book. It’s gave me knowledge of how realistic some of these thing could occur. And yet at the same time it felt unreal. Put simply I quite enjoyed having to guess what had happened. The twist in this book is amazing and I didn’t figure it out.
I ended up DNFing this book around 40%. I found the plot pretty boring and wasn't interested enough to continue to read it.
I couldn't find this book on Goodreads. to add my review.
