Francesca has been running from her tragic past that involved the death of her parents. She is a university student on a scholarship. she applies to be a ghost writer. The interview takes place online, and the unknown male speaks through a voice changer. The questions were quite probing, and Francesca eventually opted out, thinking the whole process had been a prank. But she is later told that she has the job. She is asked to write a dark thriller with elaborate murders, but to make them look like tragic accidents. Then the murders start happening in real life and Francesca is under suspicion.

The chapters in this book are quite short. There were some good twists. The client who hires Francesca to be a ghostwriter knows a lot about her. The story is action-packed, fast-paced, and a bit predictable.

This book has a wave of mystery to it! The character in the book suffers from memory loss as she struggles to figure out what has happened in the past. This all occurs while she is having issues in the present where people are gaslighting her. I really enjoyed this book. It’s gave me knowledge of how realistic some of these thing could occur. And yet at the same time it felt unreal. Put simply I quite enjoyed having to guess what had happened. The twist in this book is amazing and I didn’t figure it out.

This was a gripping thriller that I found hard to put down. It’s fast paced and builds tension with each chapter. Francesca has spent years running from her past. She’s obtained a scholarship at university and is hoping that she can now turn her life around although she’s struggling financially as a student. To make ends meet, she takes on a ghostwriting assignment for a high profile client whose identity must remain a secret. At first it’s just like any other job, but as the working relationship progresses, things take a dark turn. Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and the author for the chance to review.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley and although it was a quick read that kept me wanting to know what happened next, it was a bit too predictable. I knew who was “behind it” a little more than halfway through the book.

A fun read.
The Student is a taut and gripping psychological thriller that dives into the murky depths of secrets, trust, and survival. This haunting tale keeps readers hooked as it unravels the life of a young woman desperate to escape her past but unable to outrun its shadow. The story centers on a university student who is trying to rebuild her life after a tragic past. Living in obscurity and barely making ends meet, she takes on a ghostwriting job for a high-profile but secretive client. Communication is restricted to a distorted voice over an app, and while the arrangement seems harmless at first, it quickly becomes unsettling.
As the client’s ideas grow eerily familiar and personal, the protagonist realizes this person knows far too much about her—and her darkest secrets. When her childhood friend vanishes, she begins to question everyone around her, including the client, who seems to have a stranglehold on her life. The stakes escalate as she fights to uncover the truth while staying one step ahead of a danger that feels both distant and terrifyingly close. The Student is a compelling thriller that keeps you guessing until the very end. H.M. Lynn crafts a narrative that is as psychologically intense as it is emotionally resonant. Fans of dark, twisty stories with complex characters will find this book hard to put down. A gripping exploration of secrets, survival, and the dangerous games people play, The Student is a must-read for thriller enthusiasts.
Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for giving me an advance copy.

The Student is about a woman named Francesca who is interviewing for a position as a ghost writer for a mysterious client. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast paced murder mystery with a lot of twists, turns, and red herrings. This book definitely kept me on my toes guessing at each turn what might happen next. It feels almost like a Clue book where you have a diverse cast of characters, each with their own little side story. Overall it was a fun read and it kept me hooked until the end!

This is the second book I have read by this author and it did not disappoint. It was twisted, fast- paced and hooked me immediately. The mysterious Dr. B, the unknown stalker and the elusive Gloria are just a few of the intriguing plot points that kept me reading late into the night. This thriller is a page-turner that enthralled me from start to finish. Thank you, NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my ARC.

This was a short chapter book that started off strong and piqued my interest, but as the story progressed, I found myself losing connection to it. I struggled to connect with the main character, which made it hard for me to stay invested. While it’s a quick and easy read, unfortunately, it just didn’t do it for me.

I enjoyed this author's previous book, The Headteacher so I was looking forward to reading this one. I wasn't disappointed. Francesca has earned a University scholarship. She is also hoping to land a job as a ghost writer to make ends meet. This is where things get scary. The interview and further meetings are all online , with the interviiewer hidden. , but what I found scary was the distorted voice in these meetings. Who could it be? . The interviewer knows more about Francesca than she realises . This is a suspenseful read that I raced through as I needed to know the outcome.

I enjoyed this book and read it almost in one sitting. It is a decent thriller and I liked the premise of our protagonist, Francesca, working hard at uni and being selected as a ghost writer for a novel which seems to mirror the story of her life.

I felt that the story took a very dark turn in the mid section and there were a couple of things that reminder unexplained and that left me wondering what happened. The plot was decent and although I didn’t warm to the characters particularly I enjoyed the style of writing with the short chapters. I had hoped there would be more about the ghost writing as I enjoyed this element of the book.

I didn’t predict the ending until almost the end with the name clue that gave it away and felt that it wrapped up a little too quickly from that point. I would recommend those that enjoy a good thriller give this a read though as there is a good storyline and the twist at the end was definitely unexpected.

The main character Rebecca is dealing with the tragic death of her parents. She's a hardworking student with a scholarship, steady job and she has a partner.
Rebecca goes for an online interview as a ghost writer for dark books, and the interview weird and bizarre, and rebecca ending up leaving thinking it was some sort of a joke, but then money ends up in her bank account and she had the job, but its a case of life imitating art and the stories she writes are coming true with Rebecca being the prime suspect.
It was a great story with lots of twists..

This was unexpectedly good. I didn’t know any other work by this author or too much about the book but it was really good. The writing style was very modern and I liked that, it made it a quick read. Every direction that I guessed this book was going, I was wrong lol so it was fun to keep getting all the twists and turns wrong. The only thing I didn’t love was the ending being left hanging. I love a good wrapped up ending and this was open ended. Other than that, super fun read!

Thank you for the ARC!
