I read The Little Ghost that was a Quilt last year and absolutely loved it! So when I saw that this was up for review, I just had to read it! This book is so charming, and we get to see more of Little Ghost Quilt and his friends. The art is so beautiful, and the story is simple, without feeling like it might be talking down to children. Seeing all the ghosts celebrate Christmas was both creepy and cute! I recommend this for if you're looking for a good fun read or if you have littles!

I previously read The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt just for fun! One of my biggest joys in life is no one can tell me (yet :( ) what I can and cannot read, especially kid's books. This second edition to the Little Ghost Quilt is a winter holiday story. I adore how Eggenschwiler's art style complemented the creepy cute vibes Ghost Quilt brought. I do appreciate how in the first book Ghost Quilt felt left out and now refuses to allow his fellow ghost friends to feel left out because their sheets are too thin to withstand the winter weather. This was a heartwarming story that bounces off of the first book and can show the impact of coming together and working to find innovative ways to make sure everyone feels included. Thanks to NetGalley and Tundra Book Group for sharing this exciting work with me in eARC form.

This book’s greatest strength lies in its beautiful illustrations. The lovely pencil and digital spreads give texture and scale to the winter landscapes and make very nice use of color, especially the cool tones of Little Ghost Quilt himself standing out blue amidst the white. The pages also have masterful composition, frequently making Little Ghost Quilt a tiny figure in the midst of the lonely winter or placing charming Addams-esque details in his haunted house home.

The story follows the two common picture book plots, the nonhuman being who is lonely from being slightly different than its fellows, and the nonhuman being who discovers Christmas. However, in both cases the initial premises are given slight twists from the usual mode, keeping the narrative fresh. Little Ghost Quilt is accepted by his fellows, they just can’t join him in his winter expedition, and Little Ghost Quilt never actually consults humans to find the meaning of the Christmas he has observed.

Cliché avoidance notwithstanding, the plot here is somewhat linear and predictable, even for a picture book. However, that could be seen as a strength in giving it a very cozy feel for Christmas reading.

A book that’s a bit simple but very lovely-- I look forward to seeing if Little Ghost Quilt will have further adventures.

Cute little book of ghost on Halloween. Illustrations are full page, cute but not really my style - would be for others.

Thank you to Riel Nason, Penguin Random House Canada and NetGalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

All opinions are my own.

This was a charming story about a little quilt ghost who learns that all his differences that made life more difficult in the first book, are now his “super power” in the second book. As a heavier quilt he is able to enjoy the cooler months of the year more than his thinner sheet ghost friends. Because of this he is able to experience things that they are not such as seeing first hand the excitement of the holidays and various activities families can participate in. He then decides to bring these activities home to his friends so that they may enjoy them as well but indoors where they are more comfortable.

The illustrations by Byron Eggenscwiller were incredible! They reminded me of the illustrations I would see in books I read as a child (back in the “olden days of the 1980’s lol). I loved the ghost was the most colourful part of each picture which really will help the reader focus on the story at hand as well as learn to appreciate more simple complexities of this form of art work. This definitely gave me all the Christmas nostalgia even though Christmas was only 6 weeks ago!

I loved reading this book aloud to my daughter. She likes to play outside in the snow, Christmas AND crafts, so she loved this fun little story about winter. I enjoyed the beautiful illustrations and additional story beyond the words—looking at every detail of the pictures. This is a sweet story that we are excited to revisit again and again.

This was a cute story of a quilt ghost instead of a sheet ghost who loves to be outside and adventure. The other ghosts are all made of sheets and it is too cold outside for them which makes the quilt ghost sad. It reminded me of the nightmare before Christmas. The ghost had never seen Christmas before and he stumbled upon it when he flew into the nearby town. The quilt ghost had an idea to be able to share something special with all his sheet friends and he brought Christmas decorations to them for all to enjoy.
The pictures were a delight and this is a story all children could enjoy.

This book is just precious! What a sweet story. I loved the little ghost quilt and his efforts to share Christmas with his sheet ghost friends. The illustrations were beautiful and had the feel of older children's books and Christmas movies. I will certainly be purchasing this book to use with my students next year!

What a wonderful heartfelt story ! Watching the little ghost on his adventure was beautiful. I loved all the little details that are shown in the story.

I will be reading this story to my kiddos when it comes out. This story is like a warm cup of hot cocoa. It just heals something inside of you.

Another delightful story from Nason, this one centered around generosity and community. Eggesschwiler's illustrations capture the winter palette perfectly, with minimalism and luminosity. This seasonal but not religious story will certainly help make Little Ghost Quilt into a classic character!

The little ghost who was a quilt loves going outside in winter, but his friends, who are thin sheets, prefer to stay indoors. And that's why they have never seen the world decorated with festive evergreens and twinkling lights. The ghost quilt really wants to share this holiday magic with his friends, but he can't think of a way to make it fun for his friends to go out. So instead, he finds a way to bring the holidays to them.

I loved the first ghost quilt book, and I wasn't sure anything could top it, but this book is at least as adorable and just as cozy. The illustrations are a lovely blend of soft and spooky, and the text is easy to read with a lot of lovely details. I smiled as I read the ending, and I'm feeling inspired about my own holiday decorating for next year.

A Huge thank you to Tundra Books and NetGalley for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

This is a delightful follow-up book to The Little Ghost Who Was a Ghost. It takes place during the winter and with our little quilt ghost enjoying the cold weather and the seasonal lighting all hung up. It has sweet moments of friendship, fun interpretations of the winter season, and the illustrations bring a sense of coziness.

Little ghosts second adventure is just as cute as the first and I love that we went back to where the story took place in the first book. The illustrations are stunning and the story is beautiful.

If you liked the original, I think you will like this. It is nice seeing the Little Ghost in more of a community. While it clearly is discussing Christmas, it isn't overly Christmas if you want something more open to just winter. The art style keeps the muted style with pops of color. I do prefer the original, but I think this one would appeal to students just as much.

The Little Ghost Quilt's Winter Surprise is another adorable read for children. I would highly advise ever parent to pick this little book up, if anything for the beautiful art in the drawings as well as the cute story that accompanied it.

I don't even have children, and I was excited to receive an arc of this. Highly recommend to everyone, even adults!

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

This charming story masterfully employs onomatopoeia and intentional wordplay, adding a whimsical and engaging rhythm to the narrative. The unexpected juxtaposition of ghosts and Christmas creates a unique and enchanting twist, blending the supernatural with the warmth of the holiday season. The deliberate use of color in select illustrations enhances the visual storytelling, drawing readers deeper into the world of the book. At its heart, this is a sweet and heartfelt tale of friendship, offering warmth and light amid the dark and cold of winter.
