This is a sweet little book about a Little Ghost Quilt who wants to do something special for his other ghost friends. The illustrations are quite lovely and I really enjoyed the artwork.
I read The Little Ghost Who Became A Quilt this with my daughters for the first time recently and they LOVED it! This one was just the same! This sweet little quilted ghost, who now has more confidence in being a quilted ghost, loves enjoying the winter but his friends get to cold because they aren't quilts. Little ghost begins an adventure to bring the joy of the Christmas season inside for his friends to enjoy. We loved continuing on the journey of little ghost's life and loved this book! Definitely will be recommending it!
Absolutely precious!!! I just love the little ghost. What a sweet character! This one is a great book about finding ways to create community and comfort around you.
This was such a cute little read. The story is about the little ghost quilt and how he loves to be outside during winter. He wishes his friends could stay outside with him, but unfortunately they are sheets and get cold too fast. One day, he sees lights in the nearby town and goes to investigate. He's delighted to see the festivities and wishes his friends could as well. He decides to surprise his friends.
The illustrations are gorgeous. I love the message that this story tells. The ending seemed a little too rushed, but overall the story was great. I definitely recommend this book.
The story line is cute and meaningful. However I personally feel it needs more color to really grab children's attention.
The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt became one of my favourite children's books when I read it a few years ago. The art style and story have always been so sweet and if you know me in real life you know I adore all things cute and creepy, so a cute story about a ghost is always right up my alley! When I found out there was a sequel coming out in the new year I just had to request an arc of it and I am so happy that I did! I had a smile on my face the entire time reading it. I love the illustrations so much, there were so many times I would turn the page and instantly go "Awwwe!!" Introducing the concept of Christmas to the little ghosts was a genius idea and made it a perfect Boxing day read! The story was heartwarming, I will never get over what a big heart such a little ghost has! I can't recommend this book enough and I cannot wait to purchase a copy for myself and one for my nephew when it comes out in 2025!
*Thank you so much to Netgalley, Riel Nason and Penguin Random House for providing this arc to me in exchange for an honest review*
The first thing that drew me to The Little Ghost Quilt’s Winter Surprise by Riel Nason was the breathtaking illustrations. Each page is so beautifully crafted that I found myself wishing I could frame several of the images and hang them in my home. The illustrations are undoubtedly the strongest aspect of this book, effectively conveying the story and setting a magical tone.
However, while the artwork is captivating, the story itself felt less impactful. It’s fine as it stands, but I couldn’t help feeling like it missed an opportunity to tie its themes together more effectively. A stronger focus on the idea that being with loved ones matters more than material possessions could have elevated the narrative.
That said, I was happy to share this lighthearted, Nightmare Before Christmas-esque tale with my Halloween- and Christmas-loving 3-year-old, who enjoyed the pictures as much as I did. It’s a fun and whimsical read, but I think the story would have benefitted from a more compelling problem for the little ghost quilt to solve.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Riel Nason for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for The Little Ghost Quilt's Winter Surprise coming out August 26, 2025. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I’ve read the first book, so I was excited to check this book out. It was so adorable! I loved it. It’s perfect for Christmastime. The illustrations were spooky and fun. It felt like a magical adventure with the little ghost quilt. It was so cozy. I loved the storyline.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys quilting and illustrated stories!
I LOVE THE LITTLE GHOST QUILT! And now, we've gotten a Christmas version, which is so cute. I like that it was a naturally flowing story, it didn't feel like it was an out of place story at all. I want more now!
This was such a cute read very cozy and sweet. I loved the artwork it was beautiful. I really hope we are able to get a copy in our store.
This is such a lovely picture book which will be read by many children all year round and not just for Halloween. The little ghost who is a quilt rather than a sheet is a friendly character which families will enjoy reading and being read to.
The illustrations are beautiful and I will be recommending this book to families with small children.
A boon to be read while cuddled under a cozy quilt. Little Ghost Quilt is a true friend who loves sharing sweet moments with his friends. This will be instant favorite read aloud in my school library!
This little ghost stole my heart in the first picture book and it still has my heart with this one. The Little Ghost is weighted down with the burden that he's made out of a quilt when all his friends and family (with the exception of some distant relatives made out of a checkered tablecloth and a lacy curtain) are made out of the traditional white sheets. While his friends are able to float and frolic, he tumbles down stairs and drapes himself over clotheslines. When he drapes himself over a banister on Halloween, he finds himself on a unique and heart (and hand) warming adventure.
Love the art. Love the Little Ghost. Love the message this novel gives to the world.
The Little Ghost Quilt's Winter Surprise was so cute! I wish it was already published so that I could have purchased it for our library. Definitely will next year. It is a story of a little ghost who wears a quilt instead of a sheet. The ghost can go out in the cold and twirl, fly and have fun without getting cold. Unfortunately, the ghost's friends only have sheets and they would freeze. He went to a village and saw all of their Christmas lights. He wanted to show his friends but they couldn't be out in the cold.
It is a story of having fun, doing things with friends and problem solving.
What a cute new picture book! I was enamored with the little ghost quilt, and this is sure to become a new holiday classic. It gives slight vibes of Nightmare Before Christmas, even!
What a boooo-tiful book and wonderful story this is!! My son absolutely loved reading this story together and the illustrations are just beautiful and so well done. This is the perfect little book for this time of year and we will definitely be adding this into our bedtime rotation.
The Little Ghost Quilts WInter Surprise is so so so cute! What an adorable little story! The concept of a little ghost who is a quilt instead of a sheet is such an adorable concept and immediately sold me on it. And the art for this book is beautiful. Such a cozy winter read for anyone!
I'm sure the sequel will be quite good, but I was sent the file for the original book. Very cute, I left a review for it on Goodreads, but not what the plot synopsis for this sequel promised.
This was a cute book with gorgeous illustrations, but I found the story to be a little lacking. It was clear there was an uplifting moral to the story, but it got muddled in the telling. Still, I think it would be a fun one to share with others at Halloween.
The Little Ghost Quilt's Winter Surprise is a picture book about a ghost who feels different. This ghost is not a sheet ghost, but a quilt ghost. This makes him heavier, preventing him from floating around with his friends. This leads him on an adventure during Halloween when he's mistaken for a regular quit. This is a fun story with cute illustrations that is sure to engage any child. Thanks to Tundra Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
