Loved every single part of this book, from the characters all the way to the writing style I love it and I do hope that some day I can get my hands on a physical copy of this amazing work.

Thanks for the advanced reader copy from Netgalley! Entertaining but predictable. Typical domestic popcorn thriller.

This book was so good. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. This was the first time I read a book by this author and I'll definitely read more

Wasn’t able to read this one digitally but I did order a copy of the book so will be reviewing it after I’ve read it. I’m really excited for it as I’ve only heard great things about it.

Well this has been a truly captivating story from start to finish, it was fast paced and intense. Literally you just didn’t know what was going to happen next, nor what surprises were going to appear.
It was brilliantly well written, but then books by Rona Halsall usually are. She is an author that definitely knows her stuff and how to keep her readers engaged and grasping for more.
The characters were well developed and portrayed, even though sometimes I didn’t know who to trust. So the story certainly kept me guessing.

Big thanks to Boldwood Books for a copy on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Soulmate is a tale of obsession, love and lies.
Holly is in a difficult situation and running from the past.
She meets Mark and sparks ignite.
Could they possibly be soulmates….
But there’s a problem, Holly has a possessive and dangerous boyfriend, Finn.
Then a series of events change everything and soon their lives will never be the same again…..
This started off very unbelievable and slow, then did a little turn around and finished quite good.
It’s not my favourite of Rona’s but I was invested enough to want to know the outcome.
I found the last 80 pages was the most interesting.
A fair, quick and simple read.

Rona Halsall’s The Soulmate is an intriguing psychological thriller that keeps readers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. With a tightly woven plot, plenty of twists, and a strong sense of suspense, Halsall crafts a captivating story that will appeal to fans of the genre.
The novel follows the protagonist, a woman who is grappling with the complexities of love, trust, and obsession. When she meets a man who seems to be her perfect match, things quickly take a dark turn as secrets from both their pasts begin to unravel. Halsall does an excellent job of creating an atmosphere of tension, building suspense with each passing chapter. The pacing is steady, and the plot develops in a way that feels both natural and unpredictable.
The characters are one of the strongest elements of the novel. Halsall gives readers insight into their motivations, fears, and desires, making them feel authentic and relatable, even as they navigate darker, more obsessive tendencies. The protagonist, in particular, is someone readers can sympathize with as she grapples with her emotions and the complexities of her relationship.
While The Soulmate is filled with psychological tension and unexpected turns, there are moments when the narrative feels a bit predictable, particularly for seasoned thriller readers. Some of the plot twists, while engaging, may not come as a complete surprise. However, Halsall’s ability to maintain an air of suspense throughout, along with her strong character development, more than compensates for these moments.
The ending is satisfying, tying up the loose ends in a way that feels both surprising and fitting. The themes of obsession, trust, and the consequences of unchecked passion are explored in a thought-provoking way, making The Soulmate a thrilling and emotionally resonant read.
Overall, The Soulmate is a solid psychological thriller that keeps you guessing and provides a satisfying, suspenseful journey. Rona Halsall’s ability to create tension and craft complex characters makes this novel an enjoyable and worthwhile read for fans of psychological suspense.

I was chosen as an ARC reader. This book too time to get into it but it picked up later on. I liked the story line

Holly is on the run and always looking over her shoulder, one day while walking in the mall, hears someone playing the piano. The male pianist is playing her favorite Lenny Kravitz song, she immediately feels a pull towards the piano. She begins to sing along to the songs. The pianist name is Mark, and he experiences "love at first note"by Holly's voice. Mark travels around the world playing various famous pianos, and he posts his adventures on social media. After his performance Mark asks Holly's permission to post their performance, she quickly says no. Instead he shares their performance directly to her by sharing each others social media. From there the two communicate through DM's. Holly currently lives with Finn, someone who was kind enough to offer her a place to stay when she had no other options. While Holly thought he was fun and handsome in the beginning of their relationship, but over time he's becomes physically abusive and extremely possessive. Holly has to figure a way to get out of her situation. When Finn is found murdered and Mark shows up at her door, Holly thinks this is her escape. Soon she’s on the run but what she doesn’t realize is there’s more to Mark than meets the eye, and what happens when both their secrets come to light?

Gripping fast paced read, full of twists. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an early copy of this one. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I've always enjoyed Rona Halsall books, but this one was different to previous books. I didn't like any o the characters and just felt the book lacked substance.
Thank you to Netgalley, and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Quick read, enjoyable but nothing really memorable. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book

I enjoyed this book. Lots of twists to keep me guessing, and then all the ends neatly tied up at the end.
Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC in return for an honest review

This book was okay, not my favorite and first from this author. It was an ARC from NetGalley and I almost did not finish it. The ending was good and suspenseful but it took a while to get there...

I struggled with this book, which is more to do with the classification than anything else. This is not a psychological thriller, it is more of a domestic thriller (although thriller is a generous word). It was touching at times, sad at times and at other times very frustrating. It almost seemed like all of the characters had some type of main charatcer energy victimisation thing.
That isn't too say that I didn't like the book, I just struggled with some aspects of it.

The instant love joined by DV was just not for me. It was not well written in my opinion and the plot felt unrealistic.

This is a gripping thriller that keeps readers on the edge of their seats from start to finish
The plot is filled with unexpected twists and turns, making it impossible to predict what will happen next.
The writing is both engaging and suspenseful, with well-developed characters that add depth to the narrative.
The pacing of the novel is perfect, with just the right amount of tension to keep readers hooked without feeling overwhelmed.
The setting is vividly described, creating an immersive atmosphere that enhances the overall reading experience.
Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit far fetched at times but isn't that what fiction is all about!? Definitely a fun, quick read with great characters.

I was fortunate to receive a copy of this ARC from Rachel's Random Resources.
Holly meets Mark while he is playing a piano in the street and she is trying to escape her abusive partner. Mark seems like the perfect gentleman who just wants to help Holly. Frankly, I thought Mark was a right drip at the start! His behaviour was very odd and there were definite red flags to me, but as we get to know the characters more, we find out the dark side to both of them and where this might lead.
My favourite quote:
"Sometimes life just hurled a whole stream of lemons and there was absolutely no lemonade you could make."

Reaching my first reading goal milestone with The Soulmate by Rona Halsall felt fitting—this psychological thriller delivers a chilling and engrossing read that lingers in your mind long after the final page. If you’re a fan of UK thrillers with a slow to medium pace, this one is worth adding to your TBR list.
At the heart of the novel is Holly, a woman desperate to escape her toxic relationship with Finn. When she encounters Mark—a mysterious yet charming pianist—their connection is instantaneous. It’s as if fate has brought them together. Mark is everything Holly has ever dreamed of: kind, understanding, and seemingly perfect. But as the layers of their relationship begin to peel away, Holly realizes that she may have just swapped one nightmare for another. Mark is hiding dark secrets, and as the truth unravels, she finds herself ensnared in something far more sinister than she could have imagined.
One of the most compelling aspects of The Soulmate is how Halsall captures the psychology of toxic relationships. Holly’s yearning for love and security makes her an easy target, and her gradual realization that she’s fallen into yet another trap is both heartbreaking and terrifying. Mark’s character is equally fascinating—charming on the surface but harboring a darkness that slowly seeps into the narrative. The subplot of elder abuse adds another disturbing layer, raising the stakes as Holly pieces together the horrifying truth.
The ending delivers a satisfying yet haunting resolution, reinforcing the idea that sometimes, the greatest threats come in the most alluring disguises. If you’re looking for a thriller that makes you question the nature of love and trust, The Soulmate is a gripping, unsettling read that will leave you wary of love-at-first-sight stories forever.
