Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebooks for this ARC!
I am a bit torn about this book. I like that the main character has my name, even when spelled differently. That is a rare thing, as far as I am aware. With that, and the blurb sounding very promising, I had high hopes. But the writing style did not really manage to draw me in as much as I would have liked it to.
It is still a good book however, even when it took me a little longer to get through it. I, after all, always enjoy stories with locked rooms, or, in this case, a locked family mansion full of secrets.
I was drawn by the premise and promised Succession/Saltburn vibes. Sadly, for me this did not live up to expectations and getting through this book was a bit of a drag. I did not enjoy the writing style, which was 3rd person present tense and I felt quite removed from the narration, therefore making it hard to connect with the characters. I eventally began skim reading the flashback chapters since they didn't seem to tell us anything we didn't already know, and quite often anything covered in them would then be covered again in Maya's chapters. I didn't like any of the characters as they seemed to have no redeeming qualities, and the twists were a little far fetched.
Not for me unfortunately.
