Intriguing fantasy romance with political manuevering, a dead goddess, and a dying god. I wish I would have read Kit Rocha's other duology before reading Daugher of Tides. I feel like there was more backstory needed to make this book more impactful.
I really enjoyed reading this and when I thought I knew where the story was headed, it went in an entirely different direction.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A huge thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and Kit Rocha for providing me with an ARC of Daughter of Tides in exchange for my honest review.
Daughter of Tides is part of a larger world, and I hadn’t read anything from this universe before. While that didn’t hinder my overall understanding, I do feel I may have missed some nuances that could have deepened my connection to the story and its setting. That said, the world-building is well executed, making it easy to immerse myself in the narrative.
What stood out most to me was the throuple dynamic, which is rarely explored in romantasy. I appreciated how the relationships felt genuine rather than forced, adding a unique layer to the story.
While I enjoyed the book, it didn’t leave a lasting impression, and I haven’t found myself thinking about it much after finishing. Overall, I’d say it was a solid read, deserving of a fair 3-star rating.

This is my first Kit Rocha (I'm pretty sure I have Consort of Fire in my backlog), and honestly, I'm now in for the rest of this penname's books. (The penname is for a team of two authors.) You have mysterious gods and demigods trying to navigate a political situation as one of them is secretly dying (but trying to be noble and not telling anyone), and he tries to set up two of his friends without realizing they ALSO want to love him and fuck him. I love that poly trios are starting to become a thing narratively, and that the sex scenes are also well written (and arousing!). Definitely worht your time this summer. I'm really tempted to make a "dive in" pun to wrap this.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read Daughter Of Tides! I really loved this authors writing style and the concept of this book! The beginning of the book was a little confusing to me but as I continued to read things became less confusing but every now and then something would happen in the book that would confuse me. I really liked the three main characters and seeing their love story play out and I loved the history of The Kraken and The Goddess! I think this was a fun read and I’m excited to see what happens next! Thank you again to NetGalley!📚💕

What a lovely read! I really enjoyed this very much. The romance is perfect and I liked the characters. The fantasy is also great and the world building is well explained. Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for giving me an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

If you haven't read "Consort of Fire" or "Queen of Dreams," I'd suggest you start there!
I miss Ash, Sachi, and Zanya dearly but I'm a big fan of the expansion of this universe (and we still get some cameos from Ash, Sachi, and Zanya!)
The romantic developments are expected but I think you know that going in. There's not a TON of spice but where there is, there's build up and tension. Nothing beats the first book, in my honest opinion, but I'll definitely read the next one!

In this spicy romantasy we follow Naia (a nymph), Einar (a pirate) and Aleksei aka the Kraken and the god of love.
It's a spin off, but can be read as a stand alone/new series :)
A little confusing in the begining.
The relasenships in this (very) spicy romance is nicely done. Definitely for adult audiens ;)
If you like the Dark Olympus series, this might be for you :)

While the writing was quite good and had moments of beautiful descriptions of feelings, places, and people, I decided to DNF at 50%. While this is book 1 of a spin-off series, I truly feel like you need to read the original series first. The people and places are not given backstories or explanations, as it is assumed that you already know them. Multiple characters have multiple names as well, which only added to my confusion. I spent the first 40% just trying to get comfortable with the minimal world-building (again, assuming you know it already) and characters. But by the time the plot starts to pick up around that 40% mark, I didn't have any connection with the characters or their storylines because I felt like I spent the entirety of my time just trying to figure out who was who and not building those connections. The first 40-45% of the book was quite slow as well, and by the time I DNF'd at 50% I couldn't tell you what the plot was. I knew they were going to the island on a diplomatic mission, but I couldn't tell you what their purpose or personal goals were. I suppose in a nutshell I could leave it as this - I chose to DNF because I felt it was assumed that I'd know the world and character-building from the original series and spent the majority of my time trying to figure out who and what was who and what, leaving me feeling disconnected from the characters and the storylines. My recommendation is that this book either be marketed as book 3 of the Bound to Fire and Steel series, or made clear in the description or book pages that it is recommended to read the Bound to Fire and Steel series first.
Thank you to Montlake and NetGalley for a digital advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I loved both Consort of Fire and Queen of Dreams, so was very excited to read this one.
This follows 3 characters that we've met previously - Aleksi (the Lover), Einar (the Kraken) and Naia (a sea goddess).
Following the world-changing events of Queen of Dreams, the 3 are tasked with visiting the inhabitants of an island to check all is in order. But each has to face different parts of their past, while building their future.
This is the first book in a spin-off series, but I would say should be treated as book 3 from the first series. The main characters are different, but the world story very much carries on.
The chemistry between the main characters was great. At times things felt a little too simple with how their relationship built and slotted into place. The balance they each brought worked well though.
I very much enjoyed the setup of the island, both in its history and its present day setting. A large portion of the book is set in or around the sea, which brought a nice contrast to the previous books.
All in all I very much enjoyed this, and am looking forward to reading book 2 when it releases.
4.25 stars rounded to 4

Ok ready for the next one now! What a great read. If you like all manner of supernatural beings you will love this book. The Kraken is hot hot hot in so many ways. I say again great read!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own! Thank you for allowing me to review

Kit Rocha's latest entry to their romantasy series, The High Court of Dreamers, is a fantastic, compelling read. The characters each have a unique voice and perspective that helps bring authenticity to the world that Kit Rocha has created, and builds on the story of the previous duology by deepening our understanding of the world and its events. The central romance between Aleksi, Naia, and Einar is realistic, nuanced, and fantastical all the same time. Fans of Rocha and the romantasy genre will all find something here. Each entry into the series is a breath of fresh air, building on a world based on hopes and dreams that makes their work a wonderful escape.

An excellent continuation of the series started in the Bound to Fire and Steel duology. Equal parts erotic romance and epic fantasy, it was hard to put down this story of three gods falling in love. I was also selfishly happy to see the return of beloved characters from the first duology. Some of the side characters have me really intrigued and I'm hoping they'll become the focus of their own stories someday - tell me more about this rumored runaway princess character, for example!

This was a strong start to the Born to Sea and Storm series, it had that element that I was looking for and was hoping for from this type of book. It uses the fantasy romance element that I was looking for and enjoyed the sea element to this. Kit Rocha has a strong writing style and thought the overall feel worked, it left me wanting to read more in this world and was glad the characters worked in this universe.

The world building starts immediately, like every good fantasy book, we are thrown into this family of chaos, falsehoods and as always, love.
The magic system is unique and elevates this from being just another fantasy novel, painted with complex characters and moral dilemmas, this is a standout for the summer.

I went into Daughter of Tides expecting a fun romantasy, and while it delivered on the romance and intrigue, it took a bit of time to win me over. The story follows Aleksi, the god of love who’s running out of time; Einar, a broody pirate with a rough past; and Naia, a sweet but determined nymph. Their journey to the icy kingdom of Akeisa is full of danger, secrets, and one heck of a spicy love triangle that evolves into a throuple.
To be honest, the start was a little confusing. The world-building comes at you fast with lots of names, magic systems, and history, so it took me a while to get my bearings. But once the story hit its stride, I was hooked. The romance is where this book truly shines. Aleksi’s bittersweet perspective as he faces his own mortality adds so much emotional depth, while Einar and Naia’s chemistry is instant and fiery (even if it feels a little rushed at first). Together, their dynamic felt surprisingly natural, and by the end, I was rooting for all three of them.
That said, the pacing felt a little off. The journey to Akeisa dragged in places, while some of the action scenes wrapped up so quickly they barely registered. I also wish the book had taken more time to unpack some of its heavier themes, like colonialism and the trauma of reclaiming a stolen homeland, which were touched on but never fully explored.
Still, I had a great time with this one. The banter between the characters, the steamy romance, and the emotional stakes kept me invested even when the pacing lagged. If you’re in the mood for a spicy, character-driven romantasy with a unique dynamic, Daughter of Tides is worth the read. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely memorable.

The book offers an intriguing setting with engaging world-building and mythology that draws you in. The MMF relationship adds a good amount of spice, making the dynamics between the characters stand out. However, the pacing felt uneven at times, and the plot, while decent, leaned heavily on familiar tropes, giving it a somewhat repetitive feel. Some sections dragged and could benefit from more refinement. Despite these issues, it’s an enjoyable read that has potential with some polishing. I'd still recommend it for readers interested in this genre, but it was not something for me personally.

After the evil empire has fallen, diplomacy is still required, and it is a mission to a frozen imperial outpost on which Aleksi, Naia, Einar find themselves. As a newbie to this series I quickly picked up the mythology of gods and immortals and the Dream, helped by the chapter headers, and I liked the resilience of the islanders and the complexity of Gwynira, a coloniser but also an individual with her own motivations and trials. I thoroughly enjoyed Aleksi as the Lover, the manifestation of life, and Einar as the Kraken. The imagery as they all fall in love is breathlessly sensuous. Will look eagerly for the rest of the series.

The setting, world building and mythology are interesting and engaging. A good amount of spice in a MMF relationship. I did struggle a little with the pacing but would still recommend reading

This was OK! I feel like this plot has been done again and again. I also found that the book dragged quit a bit. Overall, it was a decent read just needs more cleaning up

So I really enjoyed this book and it really helped me with research that I am doing as well. I wasn’t really sure what all to expect, but honestly I think that was the best way for me to go into the book. I had a beautiful time and I highly recommend it!
