Eight Years of Lies by Lisa Hall is a compelling domestic thriller that explores family and the secrets we keep.
Claire is (somewhat) happily married to Tom and they have a young daughter named Isla. Claire becomes concerned one day when Tom fails to pick up their daughter from school. She becomes even more alarmed and confused when a picture of Tom and Isla appears online. But she was not the one to post it. Another woman has posted the photo claiming that they are her family not Claire's. As time passes and Tom still does not come home, Claire sets out on a mission to find him. But as she searches, more and more secrets about Tom come to light making Claire wonder if the last eight years of their life were all a lie.
This novel is a great domestic / psychological thriller that drew me right in. Filled with twists, lies, and secrets, I was fully engaged. The characters felt pretty well thought out and the pace, well a bit on the slow side, was still engaging enough to keep me reading.

After waving her husband Tom and young daughter Isla off to school and work, Claire is relaxing with a coffee when she stumbles across a post on Facebook. The post claims another woman is looking for her missing husband and daughter, only problem is the photo is of Tom and Isla, a photo Claire knows that she took on a cruise last year. Desperate for answers Claire tries to get hold of Tom to no avail and when he doesn’t return home from work Claire begins to panic. She begins her own investigation and finds she didn’t really know her husband at all and the last eight years were built on lies.

This was a steady read that keeps you reading as you want to find out why and what Tom is hiding, definitely worth a read if you like domestic thrillers. I did however find it somewhat repetitive and could have done with being about 100 pages less than it is.

I was hooked by the premise and hoped the title wasn’t going to have given everything away.

Unfortunately this book doesn’t live up to the premise, it’s quite slow, not written with enough atmosphere and struggles to keep you gripped to the ending.
I felt bored in places which is not what I’m used to with a thriller.

What would one do when they find a have you seen this man poster of their husband? I would probably lose it. It was a roller coast read and quite interesting and nothing was what it seemed.

I really enjoyed this fast paced story, it was full of surprises. I liked the multiple points of view as it kept me engaged. I would recommend this to thriller fans.

I thought the pacing of the book was a bit slow. It dragged on in the middle but the last 80% really caught my attention. I did not see the twists coming especially the one at the end. Enjoyable thriller read.

8 Years Of Lies is a new thriller by Lisa Hall.

Claire and Tom have been happily married for 8 years. But when Tom doesn’t pick up their daughter from school and fails to come home, Claire starts questioning everything about their life together. Adding to Claire’s doubts about Tom is a Facebook picture from a stranger of Tom and their daughter, asking for help tracking down the strangers husband and child.

I was really hooked by the storyline of this one and was trying to power through it to find out what was happening. It was a slow start for me and I found the beginning quite repetitive but it picked up and started to evolve at a decent pace. I did find a few plot holes that didn’t add up (they’ve never been abroad but it talks about them going on a cruise?) so I did get a little frustrated at times.

When her husband Tom goes missing and the police aren’t interested, Claire is determined to find out what’s happened to him. As she starts digging into his past she realises she doesn’t really know her husband and the last eight years have been based in lies.
The story was intriguing and it made me want to keep reading to find out where Tom had gone and who he really was.
The ending was completely unexpected and the reveal very well done.

I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend if you are looking for a read that keeps you turning the page.

Imagine finding out that your husband has a secret life and you find a photo of him and your daughter saying that they are missing. Claire is facing this and is determined to unravel the mystery. I was literally glued to my kindle with this book because I had absolutely no idea or clue of how to solve this mystery and I was desperate for answers. I could feel Claire's frustration, desperation and anxiety because I felt the same. The plot is one that takes you in and doesn't let you breathe until the end. Now the end! Omg! It is so surprising and at first I didn't know what to think but it is truly a jaw dropping twist!

I've read all of Lisa's books and always enjoyed them. This one just wasn't up to her usual standard. The premise was good and it started off well enough, but it lacked something. It was fairly lacklustre and the repetition drove me mad, was it even proofread?!

I did finish it and it was a decent story overall, but it wasn't uo to Lisa's usual standard.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to be in the minority with this one, but whilst I found it an OK, solid enough read, it didn't excite me at all.

I found it really slow to get going, it took an awful lot for me to stick with it in all honesty, but I did, hoping for some big plot twist that just didn't happen as much as I was expecting.

The book is centred around Claire, married to Tom for eight years, and with a young daughter. For the past couple of weeks, Tom hasn't been his usual calm, collected self. He's been snappy, glued to his phone, and now he hasn't arrived to pick his daughter up from school. Claire has also received an online message asking why 'her' husband and 'daughter' are in a photo with her.

Claire goes on a mad, wild goose chase to find her husband. With no answers to any of her questions, can she find him and find out just who he really is?

I did quite enjoy the hunt for Tom, I found the mystery quite engrossing for a short time and the uncovering of clues really investing. I did find it quite hard to believe that she'd leave her young daughter at home, traumatised, whilst doing this, though!

The premise was promising, but, for me, it just wasn't believable or convincing, and I just have to have some relatable connection to really get into a book.

The ending wrapped everything up well, but I had part guessed the twist.

One big bug bear of mine is repetition, and it was in bucket loads throughout the book, with Claire constantly reiterating to you as the reader and then to another character within the book .... arrrgggghhh. It's really not needed!

Very easy to read, full of twists and turns and was not expecting that ending 😱 totally surprised me! Tom and Claire were good characters, and Claire's sister is a saint!!

Claire Bennett’s husband Tom is missing. When he left for work that morning, it seemed like a normal day. But then he didn’t pick up their daughter after school nor did he go into his office at all. The police treat his disappearance casually, assuming he’s left for a vacation or girlfriend. But Claire knows Tom wouldn’t leave her. After all, she knows Tom. Or does she?

The title Eight Years of Lies is a giveaway. Whatever happened before Claire shared those eight years with Tom is linked to his disappearance and as Claire searches for him, helped by her former boyfriend Adam, she uncovers the lies that will lead her to Tom.

I liked the idea of this mystery and I felt the writing style was strong. What I didn’t like was Claire leaving her daughter with her sister for days and driving miles to follow leads. She explains it as wanting to do something rather than just sitting around making phone calls. Then she races off, driving for hours to come to dead ends. She ignores warnings and has to be rescued by Adam who is risking his job to help her. Her flighty behavior will lead her into unnecessary danger. 4 stars.

Claire thought she knew everything about Tom and although he is quite reserved and talks very little about his past, she believes that there is nothing he wouldn’t do for her and Isla. One day Tom walks out of the house to go to work and doesn’t return. Claire comes across a photo of Tom and Isla posted on social media, from another woman who Claire doesn’t know, claiming them to be her family.

As time goes by and Tom still doesn’t return, Claire gets more concerned and to no avail, rings around the hospitals and contacts the police. As more time goes by and Tom doesn’t come home, Claire starts looking for him, visiting the scant list of places Tom has talked to her about over the last eight years. Slowly Tom’s past and secrets within are revealed, putting Claire in danger and making her realise that she never knew her husband at all, not even his real name.

This is a domestic psychological thriller, which drew me in from the first page. It has a fantastic gripping plot with some great twists and turns. The front cover promises ‘a shocking final twist’, a quote which I dislike immensely as it leads the reader to have such high expectations of being totally blown away by the ending. To be honest, the twist was really clever, but I don’t consider it to be shocking. This didn’t in any way detract my enjoyment of the book, which I can only describe as brilliant.

A good solid domestic drama. The plot did get a bit outlandish and stretched credulity at times but I guess that is par for the course with this kind of story. It did keep me turning the pages right enough.
