In this complicated and emotional new novel, readers follow four women as they struggle with motherhood, pregnancy, and love in their daily lives. Connie and Pippa become friends and bond over their struggles with IVF, while Pippa’s sister Georgie is juggling too many plates as a married new mom with a career and a lover and Pippa’s friend Sienna, a successful location scout, as her partner Ashton wants her to commit to a future together before the decision is made for them. As their lives continue to collide and things become more complicated, readers discover how fragile lasting happiness is for these women and if their relationships with each other and their loved ones will make it through. Readers should be advised for discussions of infertility, miscarriage, and depression throughout the novel and adjust accordingly, but the emotions Kate Frost brings to life in this book are powerful and complex. The characters’ unique struggles are moving and deeply emotional, and the different perspectives are not overwhelming and balanced out over the course of the book, giving readers the chance to follow each story’s progression. With its emotional storyline and fantastic characters, this is a powerful and moving new release fans of female friendships will love.
This was my first book by this author and was a rollercoaster of a read. The story charters the journey of four women into motherhood and the struggles that they face along the way and also offers a very candid insight into the world of fertility treatments. I was throughly invested in this story which was a heartbreaking and emotional read at times but also highlighted the importance of friendship and the female bond.
I will definitely look out for more books by this author in the future.
This book should come with a warning because it's going to make you blub like a bitch!
Frost writes from the heart as she takes us on an emotion strewn journey with Pippa, Connie, Sienna and George as they navigate their way through life and its complexities.
Our four main characters are quite the mixed bag of personalities, they're realistic, relatable and I found myself emotionally invested into them and their stories immediately.
A thoroughly enjoyable and emotive touching story of love, life and hope.
Four women, four journeys, four trials and tribulations
Full of aspirations and hopes of different celebrations.
Each woman faces challenges in their lives now
But they'll make their way through somehow.
For some it is the impact of IVF and working your way through,
Others share the journey, creating friendships that are new.
For others pregnancy hopes and fears have a different impact
Colliding their lives in unexpected ways, that's a fact!
An evocatively portrayed story about their different lives
Sharing their hopes and just for what they strive
Showing how so much can be changed by what you're going through
Impacting your life and what you decide to do.
For my copy of this moving story, I say a huge thank you
As I share with you this, my honest review.
This was emotional, candid, relatable and a vivid description of trying to conceive and getting pregnant without trying. It is a perfect narrative projecting what it is to be a woman in today’s world.
It follows the story of four women in varying stages of life- trying to conceive, motherhood, to marry or not and single-hood.
It deals with some triggering topics such as infertility, IVF, miscarriage and cheating.
I enjoyed it and could relate to some of the experiences in the book. I didn’t expect the plot twist and was glad it was dealt with way earlier than expected.
It had depth and the ending was wrapped up nicely and I would love to read more from the author.
After reading many of Kate Frost’s books, i realized that this was different. While the other books are all escapist novels, this book tackled real life issues-fertility, cheating spouses, friendships, family dynamics. While it’s not her typical escape islands of Greece or Portugal, this was a great story. The characters are relatable and you find yourself hoping Pippa and Connie get pregnant. Without giving too much of the story away, both women experience heartache on an emotional journey. Highly recommend.
Having read a number of Kate Frost books before, I knew I would say yes when I saw there was a blog tour for this book. When I looked at the blurb though, I realised that this one had a different feel to the others I had read by her. Whereas the other three are set in Greece or Portugal, and are about new starts this one is not.
Pippa Green wants one thing more than any other. She has always wanted to be a mum. She met her husband and they started trying straight away, but several years later and it just hasn't happened for them. Contrast this with her younger sister Georgie. Georgie has a young daughter, and her husband wants another, but Georgie is lamenting the fact that she got married and had her daughter quite young. She feels like life has passed her by a little. It hurts Pippa to see other people having the one thing that she desperately wants and yet not appreciating it, and Georgie is conscious of how she feels, so there is a bit of an emotional distance between them.
Pippa and Clive are on the rollercoaster journey that is IVF, which takes an emotional toll as they follow all the medical procedures, the hormonal treatment, the injections and the hopes that the embryos will be successfully implanted and stick. Whilst her family knows that they are doing IVF, they don't necessarily understand how hard it really is, especially knowing that there are only so many times they can afford to go through this process financially.
Contrast this with Connie's story. Connie and her husband Felix are also on the IVF journey, but she is telling no one, not even her family. Luckily Connie and Pippa meet in an online IVF forum and realise that they live relatively close to each other, that they are at similar points in the process and they quickly become good friends.
The fourth person whose story we read is Pippa's best friend Sienna. She loves her boyfriend, but isn't ready to commit to anything like moving in together. She loves her independence, her job in TV and she is ambitious, and having a child is never going to be part of her plans. Never.
Even with that short summary above, you can likely imagine that there is a lot of emotional ground covered in this book. Obviously, infertility and motherhood are front and centre, along with the emotional pressures that going through infertility can bring to relationships. There is also a strong focus on female friendship, and how even the strongest friendships can be damaged by omissions and half truths, despite everyone's best intentions.
This feels like a very personal story, and so it is no surprise to learn in the epilogue that the author has experience so many of the emotions that she writes about: the hopes as each IVF cycle begins, the despair of not being successful, the joy when it looks like it has been.
I found myself contemplating my own journey to motherhood, and those of people around me. I know people who have tried and failed with IVF, as well as some who are currently trying very hard and reading this book helped me put myself in their shoes, just a little bit
This book was originally self published back in 2016 with the title Beneath the Apple Blossom. I already own the connected book to this one - The Baobab Beach Retreat. It's a little odd as that one is listed on Amazon as being book number 1 in the Romantic Escapes series, and not as being connected to this one whereas Goodreads says that these two books are connected. Anyway, none of that really matters given I am going to read all the books eventually anyway!
Whilst this was a change of pace from the previous Kate Frost books I have read, it was an important story, told very well, and I am glad that it was the first book that I finished reading in 2025.
Rating 4/5
Frost delivers a very emotional read about women, babies, fertility, and all the other emotions that accompany those topics.
Most of the characters are miserable for the majority of the book and some do irreparable damage.
I thought Pippa was obsessed with having a kid and was miserable. Luckily she had Clive.
Georgie was my least favorite character. I thought she was selfish and chucked away a very good thing.
Connie was probably the most sorrowful character but the ending for her was hopeful.
I identified with Sienna but felt terrible for Ashton for most of the book.
Sometimes longing for something so hard destroys what we already have.
This was a book I wasn’t prepared for, and it caught me up and left me in floods of tears. It's not all sadness; there’s plenty of joy around IVF as well as pain. I have a number of friends and relatives who have been forced down the IVF path, but they each have found some success, albeit after the actual treatment had allegedly failed.
A lot of the story includes Pippa and her IVF journey. She starts a blog to follow her story as she and her husband endure the highs and lows. I certainly found it interesting as I learned more about the process and felt real empathy for those enduring the regime. Coincidentally, a week later, I watched the film ‘Joy’ which documents the story of the pioneering medical team behind the IVF process. It was impossible not to be invested in Pippa’s experiences and I could feel her joys and heartache. Through the blog, she touches the lives of others who are also using IVF, most notably, Connie.
Connie and Pippa became bonded in their journeys, and a real connection was made between them. It felt natural that she formed that bond, as her immediate circle was all far less invested in the battle for a lasting pregnancy. Connie was a character that I also took to my heart, feeling her disappointments rather deeply.
Looking at Pippa’s circle, we meet Sienna and Georgie. Sienna, Pippa’s best friend, is completely married to her career and not even vaguely interested in marriage or children, and Georgie, Pippa’s sister, is far too selfish for a new pregnancy as she is immersed in her career and a burgeoning affair.
The writing is first-class, and the way the story switches between characters is beautifully handled. I felt a real connection to the IVF process, possibly because of the experiences of friends and family, and that may have added to my understanding on an emotional level.
All I can add is that this is a beautiful, well-considered book that helped me better understand the pain associated with childlessness.
this is a story of four women who deal with infertility, they share their journeys with each other. really good story.
Excellent… I was totally involved in the story, the characters and their lives. Emotional and poignant… beautifully written and so evocative. A truly fantastic read!

A Love Like No Other follows 4 women as they grapple with issues of motherhood, infertility, identity, and relationships. This book explores some very deep topics and may be difficult for some people especially those currently dealing with infertility issues. However, the story is well done and the characters and real and flawed.
Some of the story is predictible but not in a way that prevented me from enjoying the story. I definitely wanted to keep reading to see how some of the scenarios would unfold.

What a heart breaking story. Four women's stories intertwined by love, men and babies. Fertility has to be one of the hardest situations around, whether you want to be, don't want to be , can or can't. Beautiful, harrowing and lovely.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
This book is the story of four women, each one is going through different hardships.
For Pippa and Connie, they both want a baby and become friends as they both want to be pregnant but can’t due to their individual infertility issues.
But, Georgie has a baby that she absolutely loves but feels that everything has happened quickly and wasn’t prepared to become a mother.
Finally, there’s Sienna, she loves her job and her freedom, and doesn’t want to have children, but maybe things don’t work as she wants them to.
The story was emotional in places, as well as having some drama.
Each women’s story was relatable.
I recommend this book.
