McMullen writes with honesty, humor and grace. She shares difficult aspects of military life along with challenges she has worked through and ties it beautifully to scripture and how to serve God in a way that feels like chatting with a friend. I laughed out loud a few times and was also brought to tears over the reminder of God’s truths and who we are in Him . The reflection questions at the end helped me to dive deep into the intersection of my own military and Christian life.

Refreshingly real, Tara packs plenty of real-life wisdom and practical advice in this devotional that is a must-have for every Catholic military family and military chapels and book clubs across the globe. It is clear the author has a talent for writing and it was a delight to read. The discussion questions make it perfect for a group but I enjoyed reading it by myself as well. The military life is full of challenges but this book is a companion for all of the hard times, good times, and everything in between by sharing how we can rely on our faith and God’s help through everything.
