The follow-up to The String Diaries, Written in the Blood had a difficult job - a lot of what made The String Diaries so compelling was the chase and the mystery, most of which had been cleared up by the end of that first novel. Lloyd-Jones does a great job, though, of twisting the story into a thrilling adventure that develops the original mystery and builds to a fantastic conclusion. Gripping from beginning to end.
