This is a beautifully crafted and somewhat of a dark tale perfectly suited for a rainy night. The story has everything it needs to keep you thrilled and entertained. I read through it rather quickly and was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this book. I liked it way more then the first one in this fantastic series.

OMG!!! Been eagerly awaiting for this beauty and it was totally worth the wait! Aileen has done a phenomenal job with this one! I didn't think it was possible but OMG I love Phoenix and Sam even more!!
I was hooked from beginning to end and cursing my job for getting in the way of reading time! so rude!!!
This picks up straight after the last book, so you MUST read that first, and its full on from the beginning to the end. Sam is not even given a chance to recover fully from her first fight against her dad before she is having to face another threat!
Phoenix really stepped up even more in this book and at the end just WOW! i can't wait to see more of him in the upcoming book. Talk about match made in heaven with him and Sam!
I loved Sam even more as honestly she is so strong and selfless! She deserved to have the team she had in the Sanctury at her back and now she has Phoenix she finally has someone that is there to support HER and no-one else, her anchor, her person!
Eli - I am even more intrigued on him and really want to know his secrets and what is truly coming!
I cannot wait for book 3 but it will be worth the wait for later in the year! I will get my Aileen Erin fix and go back to re-read/listen to the rest of her books in anticipation!

As always, Aileen Erin creates magic and comfort in her work. Please, never stop writing. Every time I pick up one of her books, I'm transported somewhere beautiful.

Infestation was a five star read!
It picks up where book one left off and the action continues with a punch. Sam is still in recovery mode and she's impatiently trying to get back to work. While Phoenix is worried about how Sam will receive the news of the new role he has taken on. Throughout the book, readers to get to explore the internal struggles Sam faces as she does her job and tries to keep the people she loves safe. Also there's dual pov, so Phoenix has a couple of chapters where he continues to build his relationship with Sam while proving he can handle anything when they're together. I loved that the characters from the past books are still very prominent throughout the story and that they are still fighting to protect each other. Their bonds, mates, packs and family included are as strong as ever.
Overall, I can't recommend this book enough! It was an absolute thrill ride with a major swoon factor.

Fall in love with this pack! They form a pack of werewolves, witches, a fae princess, and demonologist who can see the spirt realm, and a human who might not be so JUST a human! The characters are so real. Dive so deep into the spirit world different levels of demons are everywhere. Phoenix takes sexy warrior to the next level with his love and devotion to Sam. As the pack tries to save the world from things they can't see they show you just what a mate bond is all about. There are so many things to love about this book I guarantee when you finish reading it, Your only question is going to be when can I have the next one! Aileen Erin knocked it out of the park with this one!

Infestation is the second installment in author Aileen Erin's Days of Iron and Clay series. The story follows Samantha Lopez, who is not exactly human but something else—a Nephilim. Samantha just happens to be the daughter of a human and a fallen angel named Astaroth, who is willing to do anything to get his wayward daughter back in hell, where he thinks she belongs. He is willing to do anything to have her submit to him. As the story opens, Sam feels the effects of nearly being caught by Astaroth after she rescued a fey warrior named Van. Now, her undead friend Gabe is paying the price for her escape.
Who is Samantha? Samantha is the resident demonologist who you call if you are demon-possessed or in trouble. She's so good, that she is constantly busy sending lower & higher demons back to Hell from where they escaped. According to her Guardian Angel, Eli, Samantha is destined to be an important, extraordinary person who is set on protecting innocent humans from demon infestations and evil spirits - via exorcisms and creating portals to Hell. With Heaven & Hell battling for millennia, Sam and her friends stand in the way of the apocalypse.
Even though Sam has literally and figuratively gone through Hell and back, when her friends are in trouble, she has no problem dropping everything to help them. This time, they travel to Charleston, where something unseen attacks Max Mollony's Wayfarer pack. The Wayfarers are the problem solvers of the paranormal world. They travel wherever there's a problem, but not even Max's pack can fight what's happening in Charleston.
This book also alternates with Phoenix, whom I have to say I absolutely adore. I adore that he has found his calling, picked up the mantle, and is willing to do whatever it takes to protect Sam from trouble. Even though Sam is weary of putting him in the line of fire, Nix is there at every turn encouraging her and showing that he's not afraid of her or her world. Sam lives in a supernatural community in Texas called The Sanctuary. She's helped by Tessa McCaide (an Alpha Werewolf with visions of the future), her mother/partner Elena Gomez, Phoenix Herrera (a former soccer phenom) who is now permanently linked to Sam by choice, Frank (a Priest), Eli (an Archon Warrior Angel), Dastien (Tessa's mate), Cosette (a Fey princess), Claudia (a Witch), Lucas (a Peruvian Alpha), Axel, and Chris (a Werewolf).
You should know that this series is directly linked to the author's Alpha Girl series. You should also know that you MUST read both books in order to understand the world that the author has created and what is happening at another level, which may eventually lead to Armageddon. While Sam is a badass on every level, it is Phoenix who was the reason I gave this story such a good rating. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Great continuation of Invocation. I still love Phoenix (almost as much as Lorne). Sam is amazingly tough as she fights her father over and over. Another great story and I'm already ready for the next one.

Aileen Erin what an amazing Arthur she is one ,of my favorites. Samantha has become probably one of my favorites in her books. Once I got approved for this, I had to go re-read the first book! This book however was everything!!! And God we need more of Phoenix please! 😍
This book picks up right where the first left off, and wow, it does not disappoint.
Also, Sam and Phoenix's slow-burn romance is everything I didn't know I needed! 🔥

Aileen Erin’s Infestation is an action-packed urban fantasy novel that masterfully blends supernatural thrills with heartfelt romance and emotional depth. As the latest installment in the Samantha Lopez series, the book delivers high stakes, complex relationships, and a heroine who continues to grapple with the weight of her past while facing new dangers that test her limits.
Plot & Suspense
The story picks up with Samantha finally back home after surviving the horrors of Hell, but the emotional toll of leaving her friend Gabe behind weighs heavily on her. Despite her relief at reuniting with her loved ones—especially her boyfriend, Phoenix—Samantha can’t shake the guilt gnawing at her. When a new supernatural threat targets a werewolf pack in need of her expertise, she jumps at the chance for a distraction. However, the mission becomes even more complicated when Phoenix insists on accompanying her into the unknown dangers of her world.
On the other hand, Phoenix’s perspective adds another layer to the narrative, offering insight into his deep devotion to Samantha and his growing awareness of the dark forces that surround her. His concerns about a cryptic warning from Samantha’s guardian angel, Eli, create an underlying tension that builds throughout the story.
Erin does a fantastic job of balancing the external supernatural conflicts with the internal struggles Samantha faces—her desire to save Gabe, protect Phoenix, and still hold onto a semblance of normalcy. Each mission feels like a ticking clock, keeping the reader hooked with twists, unexpected allies, and formidable enemies lurking in the shadows.
Characters & Relationships
Samantha remains a compelling and relatable protagonist—fiercely independent yet vulnerable, driven by loyalty and an unrelenting sense of responsibility. Her relationship with Phoenix is the emotional core of the book, providing moments of tenderness amid the chaos. Phoenix, for his part, is more than just a romantic interest; his personal growth and unwavering support for Samantha make him a standout character in his own right. Their dynamic is tested throughout the book, but their bond only deepens in the face of danger.
The supporting cast, including werewolves, supernatural allies, and Samantha’s ever-watchful guardian angel, enrich the story with layers of intrigue and camaraderie. Erin excels at making each character feel distinct, with their own motivations and stakes in the unfolding drama.
Writing Style & Atmosphere
Aileen Erin’s writing is fast-paced and engaging, with vivid descriptions that bring the supernatural elements to life. The action scenes are gripping, but it’s the quieter, introspective moments that truly shine, allowing readers to connect with Samantha’s emotional journey. The dual perspectives of Samantha and Phoenix add depth, offering contrasting views of the same events and highlighting their different, yet equally strong, approaches to love and survival.
The blend of supernatural horror, romance, and suspense creates an immersive atmosphere that fans of urban fantasy will find irresistible. Erin knows how to maintain tension, weaving humor, emotion, and high-octane action seamlessly throughout the narrative.
Highlights
• Emotional Depth: Samantha’s guilt and struggle with loss make for a compelling character arc.
• Strong Romantic Element: The relationship between Samantha and Phoenix is heartfelt and realistic.
• Supernatural Thrills: A mix of werewolves, demons, and mysterious forces keeps the stakes high.
• Dual POV: Seeing events from both Samantha and Phoenix’s perspectives enriches the narrative.
Final Thoughts
Infestation is a thrilling and emotional ride that fans of supernatural fantasy won’t want to miss. Aileen Erin delivers an engaging story filled with action, romance, and suspense, all centered around a heroine fighting battles both internal and external. Whether you’re a longtime follower of the series or a newcomer, this installment offers plenty of excitement while setting the stage for even greater challenges ahead.
Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.5/5)
A gripping urban fantasy that blends supernatural action with deep emotional stakes—perfect for fans of strong heroines and high-stakes romance.

First, I had to go back and reread the first book. Second, this book is AMAZING! Third, Phoenix is the new ultimate book boyfriend!
This book picks up from the 1st, and man is it freaking good! Sam and Phoenix have a slow-burn romance happening. And it. Is. Everything! Sam proves just how badass she truly is, with Phoenix proving he's just as badass.

Infestation is an amazing follow up to Invocation. Picking up where Invocation ends Sam is thrown back into the chaos of her supernatural life—demon attacks, possessions, and portals. Luckily, she now has Nix by her side, though he’s afraid to tell her about their new bond due to their sudden reconnection.
The worldbuilding continues to evolve, introducing fresh threats, creepy monsters, and deadly battles while maintaining the tension from the first book, including the looming danger of Sam’s father.
I loved getting more of Nix’s POV—his dedication to Sam and his willingness to protect her no matter what. The group dynamic, including Eli the guardian angel and Frank the witty priest, adds a perfect found family feel.
The romance between Sam and Nix develops sweetly amid all the conflict, and with plenty of mysteries still unresolved, I’m excited for book three!

The content of this book was unreadable compared to the first book. It was like editing hadn’t happened at all (which very well may be true) and was very offputting and a struggle to get through even just a few chapters. I loved the first book and I understood the story of this sequel so my hope is that the actually published book is better edited, but it was extremely difficult to get through this edition in it’s current state.

This was a strong sequel in the Days of Iron & Clay series, it had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed in this type of book. It continued the story perfectly and enjoyed the overall feel of this. The characters had that element that worked in this universe and worked in this setting. Aileen Erin has a strong writing style and hope to read more from this world and from Aileen Erin.

This book is an absolute must read, perfect for anyone who loves The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, Angel by L.A. Weatherly or Mythos Academy by Jennifer Estep. Sam and Phoenix have new battles to face, travelling and coming face to face with old friends and even older foes. Phoenix is a perfect gentleman and Adam her demon fighting, awesome self, to find out more you have to read this book!
The best moments were those between Sam and Phoenix, getting to see them grow as characters and together, the crossovers with the Alpha Girl series and Sam being absolutely kick ass.
The only complaint that I have is that it ended too soon.
I would 100% recommend this book to everyone who loves slow burn romance, dark fantasy and found family!

Book 2 of the series and you need to read in sequence since the story builds. The book itself has a contained story that will resolve within it's pages, but there are threads that will carry through from book 1 onwards to what I expect will be an epic conclusion.
I am utterly addicted to Aileen's writing. The story telling in her books blows me away every single time. Infestation was no different. The journey from start to finish takes a bunch of twists and you get little pieces of information and then BAM it hits you in the face when it all clicks.
Along with the substantial paranormal plot (figuring out who/what is taking out werewolves) we have the ongoing growth and development of the relationship between Sam and Phoenix. Sam lets us in a bit more this book revealing her insecurities and doubts about Phoenix's desire to be with her. But at every turn he is there trying to dissuade her fears, to prove his genuine feelings and I will say there are moments when he's providing information to people that are not Sam (who doesn't love a protective found family, it's the absolute BEST) that made me utterly melt for this man. Phoenix is the perfect match for Sam and the more we see, the more sure I am that my happy giddy bouncing will be rewarded (slowly but surely).
I cannot wait to see where they go next in this battle between good and evil, angels and demons, especially when we're learning more and developing powers along the way.
I requested and was provided with an advanced copy of the ebook. These are my honest opinions.

Another fantastic sequel by Aileen. The only reason I put the book down was because I'm not allowed to read 24 hours a day. (Adult problems).
This story reminds why I love her other stories so much. The world building that Aileen does makes it so easy to picture exactly what is happening. If you haven't read any books by Aileen yet, get started so when this one comes out you'll be able to jump right in and enjoy!

I’m grateful I have been able to read this early, I enjoy the characters and this world so much.
Let’s just reconfirm that Phoenix is book boyfriend material, he’s an absolute saint which our girl Samantha 1000% deserves. Samantha’s life does not become any less tenuous in this book, and there’s so many more characters and situations that test her.
This is a fast paced supernatural fantasy, the books are not spicy but has a genuine romantic connection that is honestly great to read, it’s not everyday enemies to lovers guys sometimes a peaceful connection is the one. There’s a lot of action and tension throughout this story and I was hooked!!
Rating 3.75 stars only because I feel like the book progressed the plot along, but just not as much as I’d of loved.

I can predict the first book on my 2025 TBR list will reign as the best book of 2025 and that book is Infestation. This is the second novel of Days of Iron and Clay. As expected, Samantha will continue to kick butt against the evil that arises but she will also become more confident in her relationship with her anchor, Phoenix. Even though she has the unwavering support of her Mom, her mentor and her nosy but loveable pack friends, she needs a partner she can depend on no matter what happens and Phoenix is that man. He is strong both mentally and physically and resists all temptations to abandon this path. Samantha deserves the best and he was destined for her! However, I feel some foreshadowing vibes about Phoenix's Mom and his ex girlfriend, book three can't come soon enough. If you are looking for a thrill ride like, "Stranger Things," that gives you all of the feels do not miss this book!

This book had a great plot with intriguing characters. I’ll definitely be looking out for more from this author.
