Well paced with the perfect amount of twists and suspense. I finished it in one sitting because I just had to know what happened
I really enjoyed the concept of this book, it had that feel that I was hoping for in a psychological thriller novel. It was everything that I was looking for and the concept worked with genre and characters. I thought Megan was wonderfully written and thought the journey worked overall. Ruby Speechley wrote this well and was glad I got to read this.
I enjoyed this book. The storyline was good and I could easily keep track of the characters as I was trying to figure out who the villain was. I would have liked more in the epilogue. Thank you NetGalley for an advanced ebook copy.
Ruby Speechley has another hit on her hands with the tight, twisty and thrilling The Uninvited Guest!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC!
The Uninvited Guest by Ruby, Speechley, Megan is getting married to Jamie and the weekend of her hen party, all of her Frenemies get together, along with a girl named Brooke who claims to be Jamie‘s cousin. it isn’t long before strange things start happening like messages on the mirror and red nail polish all over her comforter, but this is just the beginning at times Brooke seems like she is the only friend Megan has, but after all the fun and games are over Brooke learns who is friend and who is foe, but by then it may be too late. let me just say I think Megan should be voted the most annoying idiotic character in a book ever. I knew when they asked her if she ever cheated on Jamie and she got insulted instead of just saying no, this book was going to be problematic. She was a whiny, ridiculous character who made me want to throw my phone at the wall more than once. because I love a good domestic thriller, I read on, hoping it would get better only to be paid back by one of the most ridiculous endings I have ever read. so why did I finish the book and then give it three stars because it’s one of those books you’ll love to hate read and even perfect reading while rolling your eyes. The book isn’t that long. I think it’s better if red with a friend but OMG this book was so much fun. My husband and I laughed at so many things in this book even though they weren’t that funny so I do definitely recommend it. #NetGalley, #RubySpeechley, #TheUninvitedGuest,
The Uninvited Guest was a fast-paced and entertaining thriller. Megan’s hen weekend should have been a fun, enjoyable memory-making event before her big day. It turns out to be anything but a good time. Who is targeting Megan and trying to ruin her upcoming wedding? Finding the answer to this question is the motivation of the main character. I was instantly engaged and interested in solving this mystery as the plot unfolded. Many of Megan’s choices were questionable and frustrating. The ending was slightly over the top, but overall it was an enjoyable read. Thank you, NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my copy.
I have read a couple of books by this author, and when I saw she had a new one out, I dived straight in—no messing about reading the synopsis. The cover and title were enough for me, and I really enjoyed the suspense.
Megan is due to go away on her hen weekend, not far from home where she leaves her daughter with her parents and her husband-to-be is on his stag weekend. There is an unsettling event before she even sets off, but she is persuaded that it is someone playing a joke. It has unsettled her, as it would have me as well!
When she gets to the cottage they have rented, surprises keep occurring, and not just one. A sister from Oz arrives, there is a surprise package and then there are the text messages. By the end of the weekend, Megan doesn't know who to trust and if any of her friends are responsible. But then it is not as if Megan can be trusted completely, and maybe her husband-to-be has a secret as well!
This is a really good book with a nice pace and flow to it. The suspense from the beginning sets the theme for the rest of the book. Having a small cast makes it easy to keep all of them in order, although some are obviously more prominent and have a greater impact as the story unfolds.
The way the author spreads the sense of suspicion is good, it adds a tense atmosphere at times and also it makes the reader wonder who is being honest and who is trying to cover their backs.
This was a book that was easy to get into and it kept my attention, I wanted to see who was telling the truth and also who was going to admit to the various events and unsettling happenings. If you are looking for a book that has plenty of tension and suspense and that has some twists then this is one you may well be interested in and I would be very happy to recommend it.
So many twists, so many guests that I couldn't figure it out.
I did not see that ending coming.
You need to read this as soon as possible.
I really enjoyed this book. None of the twists were that suprising or unexpected, but the book still had me hooked regardless. The ending was perfect as well and wrapped averything up super nicely. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is just that I guessed a lot of what happened except for the part about the basement.
Overall a really enjoyable book.
I really wanted to like The Uninvited Guest, but I just didn't, really. Although the story was interesting enough to hold my attention and I did finish the book, I really didn't like any of the characters. In particular, the main character made a lot of decisions that made no sense whatsoever. Instead of making up her own mind about things, she seemed to just believe whatever the last person to talk to her said, even when it didn't make any sense. As a result, the story felt contrived and illogical.
Tense and fast paced, this story immediately plunges you into a gripping mystery. Megan Lewis is preparing for her wedding and an uninvited guest raises questions and threatens to uncover secrets from the past. Fascinating and addictive this draws you deeper and deeper into the complexities of hidden secrets and pasts that come back to shock you when you least expect it. The surprising layers of hidden human psyche.
If you like Domestic Suspense this is a book you'll want to pick up. The book is fast paced and a quick read. There is enough suspense to keep the reader guessing and the guesses will remain till the final page. Megan is engaged and getting ready to attend her hen party with friends. The party goes well until it doesn't. Megan isn't sure who to trust.
Thank you NeGalley for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review
While I have seen this book listed as appealing to Alice Feeney, Lisa Jewell as well as Shari Lapena (which is why I requested it) reader beware you could be very disappointed. I have read every book by the three above named authors and this book does not compare to any of theirs,
Thank you NetGalley! This was an amazing book! It was a short, fast paced read. I throughly enjoyed the plot. My first by Ruby Speechley. I will definitely be checking it her others.
Thank you Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC!
This book did have everything I enjoy. A blurb drawing me in, rather short chapters making me reading it in almost one sitting and I do love a good hen party thriller, even when introverted me never would want to be on one.
It was a quick, twisty read keeping me on the edgy of my seat until the last page while trying to figure out why Beth wants to ruin Megan's wedding. This was actually my first Ruby Speechley book, but I feel now like it will not be my last!
First book from this author. AMAZING
I couldn't put the book down, finished in one day. Kept me guessing through the whole book. Definitely recommend
Two and a half stars rounded up. Ruby Speechley’s “The Uninvited Guest” had a good premise, in line with other thrillers I’ve read. Megan is engaged to Jamie and they’re headed to their hen and stag parties for the weekend. Even before Megan leaves for her hen party with one of her friends, she receives a threat at her parents house.
As Megan tries to determine who may not want her to get married, she arrives at the house that’s been reserved for the weekend. Shortly after arriving at the house, a female named Beth shows up, claiming to be Jamie’s cousin from Australia. As the weekend progresses, along with the hen-related games and activities, Megan receives more threats and begins to question everyone around her, even her closest friends.
Overall, this book did not work for me. I found Megan to be unlikable, gullible, and started thinking “I hope the wedding doesn’t occur.” At one point, I even wondered if the author intended the book to be satire rather than a thriller. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my ARC.
Spoilers below…
Megan questions Jamie’s faithfulness to her several times, but the reader (and her friends) know she cheated on him with her ex, Ryan. Megan gets a “thoughtful apology” from Beth (Brooke) and mentions liking her, but then goes back to snark and bitterness. She talks about wanting to keep Lauren and Beth (Brooke) around and then a couple pages later she’s confronting Beth (Brooke) and telling her she should leave the hen house. Last, less than an hour before her wedding, Megan leaves the hotel rather than calling Lauren because she needs to see her “face-to-face.”
Thanks to NetGalley for this advanced copy in exchange for review.
I read this in a day so it’s definitely a quick, pacy read. Despite a few far-fetched moments it had some excellent twists and a great ending. There were lots of reminders why not to attend a Hen party too.
Overall a quick and easy read and I’d read more from this author.
This was such an interesting read. I loved the twists and turns and it kept me guessing until the very end. I will be definitely looking at more books from this author
Ruby Speechley is one of my favourite authors so when I seen this I couldn’t wait to read it I knew I was going to be in for a thrilling read. It was full of twists and turns which I didn’t see coming I loved how well written the characters were and how the story just flowed throughout.
Megan is getting married to Jamie father to her daughter they are both having hen and stag dos on the same night. Megan is a bit on edge as she is keeping a massive secret from Jamie. So when Beth crashes the hen party claiming to be Jamie’s cousin Megan lets her join in the celebrations. But then Megan starts receiving threatening messages and other strange things happening she wonders if she can trust Beth or any of her friends.
This was definitely a suspenseful read which kept me on edge from start to finish and wow what an ending it was. I loved everything about this book and I can’t wait to recommend it to everyone. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this great book.
Firstly thank you to the publishers for my early access in exchange for a review.
I’ve reviewed a few of this authors books and this is definitely one of their strongest .
