I enjoyed the book and was intrigued with the plot so it was hard to put down. I did find the main character a bit naive which did make a few parts unbelievable. Still an enjoyable read though.
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Meghan is leaving with her friends for an overnight hen party when she spots a funeral type of flower arrangement in the yard at her parents' house. Then other strange things happen as the hen party goes on, including strange messages, and a woman turning up who says she is Meghan's fiancee's long lost cousin from Australia.
This book was mediocre at best. Meghan makes such dumb decisions. She acts ridiculous about leaving her daughter with her parents because she is concerned that she can't trust them but then trusts a stranger at the hen party with a huge secret. I couldn't stand her and really couldn't root for her because she was so ridiculous. Everything came together (in a farfetched way) at the end, but the set up was too silly for me.
A page turner that's easy to read. A bit of a slow burner with nothing really happening the first half of the book.
I didn't really like Megan, the main character. Her secret is unforgivable, in my opinion (and if she really was coerced as she claimed then that's a serious crime which doesn't explain the ending) so it was hard to relate to her or get into the story.
Told entirely from her POV, I wish there had been a POV from the 'bad guy' to give us a bit of insight into their mind as it would've been fun to read!!
The dynamic of the cat-and-mouse game was fun and well-written.
Thank you Netgalley for my copy.
I enjoyed this book.
Something(s) I liked:
✅Well written.
✅Pacey.
Something(s), not so much:
⭕Megan is naive to the point that I must conclude she is literally brainless.
⭕Also you have time to remove your wedding dress and change before you go out and look for her yourself? Okay, yeah, not believable in the slightest.
Looking forward to reading more by Speechley though.
I devoured this book as I didn't want to put it down... the plot twists had me shocked! It truly made me stay on the edge of my seat.
The author hits you left and right with twist after twist I really like this authors writing style. I truly loved how this played out it was remarkable!
The characters were well written my favourite one was Megan as the book progressed I felt sorry for her at times.
I’d highly recommend this book a solid 5 stars and definitely a must read when it comes out in Feb!

I fairly raced through this book and it had a few decent twists and surprises. However, I felt it was a bit too far fetched with the lead character Megan being extremely annoying! A good read which kept me turning the pages.
Megan is preparing for her wedding, but then someone starts leaving her threatening messages at her hen do, and a mysterious woman turns up out of the blue. Who can Megan trust - her friends, her fiancé, or this uninvited guest? I'm afraid this just wasn't for me at all. I disliked Megan off the bat and was dismayed by the turn the plot took. It ended up feeling dispiritingly old-fashioned, with a lot of sexist cliches thrown in. I won't be reading any more by Ruby Speechley.
Megan has a 'hen' weekend. Her future husband's cousin crashes the party and strange things happen.
She likes the cousin, Beth, and feels comfortable confiding her darkest secrets to Beth. Was that a mistake?
I found the beginning a little slow, and felt that Megan trusted far too easily.
And her decisions are based on emotion rather than on experience.
Jamie's anxiety was quite valid, but I felt that he should have stood up for himself. But we can't all be heroes.
Fairly good on the whole, I am sure fans of Ruby Speechley will enjoy this book. I just didn't gel with some of the characters. Especially Megan, her parents and Jamie.
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC
“The Uninvited” is a mystery thriller by Ruby Speechley. In this book we meet Megan who is having a “hen do” (what we in the States a bachelorette party). Megan’s friends - some past, some present - are there, but there’s a mystery woman - Beth, who introduces herself as the groom-to-be’s cousin. Things go from playful (tons of alcohol) to odd (surprises in Megan’s bedroom) to downright dangerous and frightening over the day and night at the party. Meanwhile, Megan’s being threatened by a former boyfriend … and odd things are happening back on the home front, such as frightening gifts appearing on Megan’s doorstep. On the day of the wedding, something big happens - where all is exposed and it’s obvious that nothing really is as it seems in this story. I have to admit, while I found the idea of this book interesting (I mean, who doesn’t like a bachelorette party setting?), I figured out pretty quickly what was going on, though I hadn’t worked out all the details on the “why.” For me, there wasn’t a lot of suspense and, honestly, I found Megan to be so spineless and such a people pleaser that when she finally grew a spine, it felt like it was too late. Great idea and I did finish it, but, sadly, I’ll probably forget this book in a few days. Will others like it more than me - most likely.
Megan's hen weekend with her closest friend, all sounds lovely doesn't it?
It turns out to be much more than that.
A decent twisty read but i do think these hen do's with drama have been done to death.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a gripping read that captivates from start to finish. I loved everything about this book!
One hen, one stag, one uninvited guest… who won’t make it to the wedding? Megan Lewis is ready for her big day, but when an unexpected guest crashes her hen weekend, her perfectly curated world unravels. Beth, claiming to be Jamie’s cousin, quickly charms the group. But when she gets close to bridesmaid Lauren, things take a dark turn, and a game of truth or dare exposes secrets from Megan’s past, shaking her world. As the wedding nears, Megan realises Beth isn’t who she says she is but she may be her only ally. Wow with friends like this?! Who needs them! This book had great suspense, intriguing, murder, mystery, backstabbing, gaslighting, and a few wild twists and turns! The story was very interesting! I highly recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Megan is all set for her big day. She’s about to go on her hen weekend but has some trepidation at leaving her daughter Freya behind especially as her fiance has chosen the same weekend for his stag do. She’s sure everything will be fine, after all, spending the weekend with her closest friends, what could possibly go wrong? A gripping thriller from start to finish that had me constantly guessing and hooked with every turn of the page. Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and the author for the chance to review.
Kept my attention, lots of twists and turns.. very exciting could not put it down. Did not figure of the ending until the end. Enough backstory to make it interesting but not so much to make it boring.
