This is such a great reference book. The book is clearly organised and full of interesting and useful information. This is one you will come back to again and agin.

It's definitely aimed at beginners and feels very accessible. The writing style is engaging and comprehensive.

This would make an incredible gift for someone just diving into folklore and witchcraft.

I was interested in learning more about folklore, but this is rather a reference book about various flowers and herbs than a real folklore reference book. Interesting nonetheless, with gorgeous illustrations, but not exactly what I was expecting and hoping for.

Thank you to the publisher who provided me with an e-copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

'The Witch of the Forest's Guide to Folklore Magick' is a stunning addition to Squire's growing list of books. The beginning of the guide runs through various ways in witch herbs and plants can be used to make ointments, salves etc., with detailed intructions that are simple to follow. This sets up the reader well to then gain information about different herbs/plants and their properties, as they can consider how best to use these plants. Each plant has an exquisite summary page that contains a snapshot of information: its element, plant, magickal properties and folk names. Squire's guide is perfect for any new to incorporating herbs/plants into their lives and/or practice, as well as a beautiful reference for those with more experience.

This book is chock full of historical knowledge of famous witches (who were also healers), and the various properties of herbs as well as methods of magic. The illustrations were lovely, but I felt it was far too text heavy, and could have used more diagrams or illustrations to break up the text.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is a beautifully illustrated book with lots of interesting information. In the days before modern medicine, people used plants and herbs available to them in nature - nature’s medicine and still today we use honey and lemon for colds, dock leaves for nettle stings or peppermint tea for digestion. There is definitely a lot to be said for natural and herbal medicine and I will be using the new information I have learnt for minor ailments.

Reviewed on Goodreads and Fable.

I've been so looking forward to this book for Lindsay and it did not disappoint! Her tarot deck and Tarot book have been invaluable guides for me, and I can't wait to add the physical version of this book to my collection in February!

Her books have the most beautiful graphics that are so clear and easy to read. And I've learned so much about herbs, flowers, and trees. While it's absolutely a book of Folklore Magick, I think it could be thoroughly enjoyed by any nature enthusiast.

A wonderful book, filled with information and love. I'd highly recommend!

thank you to netgalley, quarto publishing group and author lindsay squire for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
truly the book is beautiful. the book seems to avoid closed practices but i did not like the medicinal benefits section so casually in a book like this.

I really did like this book. It beautifully written and I love the artistic elements to the pages. The book is decided into sections of herbs, flowers and trees and gives magikal and medicinal uses for each one. With the plant ID, it shows corresponding zodiac sign, element and planet. Below it has medicinal and magikal properties. Along with easy to follow recipes for making teas, salves, tinctures and more.
Th is is a great book for beginners getting into green witching. My daughter has just begun green witching and she will get a copy of this book for some future reference and inspiration. At the end of the book, it also show plants that are deemed dangerous and should not be touched or consumed.
The only one thing about the book is a handful of pages are up side down. I didn’t not take away from the rating as it should be fixed in the final copies
Overall, this is a great book to have on any shelf

This is a beautifully illustrated beginners' guide to the craft. Squire offers wonderful insight that will help people who are just coming into witchcraft and those who have been practicing for a little while. Again, this book is visually stunning. I would recommend to anyone who wants an easy to grasp guide.

Well presented information and stunning images. An absolutely beautiful book.

Perfect for someone new to the craft to garner information or for the more seasoned practitioners to use as a reference.

I will definitely be looking into the authors other works.

A great beginner’s reference book but I could see myself going back to this for quick reminders too. I was hoping there would be more folk stories told considering the title and inspiration but it still had useful information, especially about the basics. It should also be noted that I loved the artwork and color thought this book.

As someone who doesn't have a background in natural witchcraft, I thought this book was great! The authors writing style was very approachable and made the complex world of herbal medicine feel less overwhelming. The illustrations capture that whimsical folk essence while also being informative. I gave the book a four because I would have loved a section on specific recipes and spells for us beginners. Also, maybe a little more about folklore witchcraft in general. Overall, I would definitely recommend!

If you liked her first books you will probably like this one. Very visual with nice graphics. It is more of a reference book then a how to and there are certainly books that dive deeper in the topic but this is a nice overview.

3.75 stars

A beautifully illustrated, amusing witchy themed read. It feels like you stumbled upon a book on the shelve of a witches cabin in the forest. As you are now her student learning all you can with the help of a creative text.
Thank you for such a fun, whimsical read.

I really love this series of books. They are great for beginner witches and beautifully illustrated. This book begins with the various uses of herbs (teas, tissanes, poultices, salves ect) and how to make them. This is followed by a herbiary section with folklore for each plant as well as magical and medicinal uses. Next up is section with much the same information about flowers then trees. Before finishing up with baneful herbs.
Overall I would say this is a great beginner book but leans more towards green witchcraft than specific folk practices.

I’m absolutely enchanted by The Witch of the Forest's Guide to Folklore Magick! It’s such a lovely introduction to folklore magick, especially for beginners who are just starting to explore the world of herbs, flowers, and trees. While the plants covered are pretty basic, the book still offers a solid foundation and plenty of inspiration to dive deeper. Plus, the illustrations? Stunning! It’s the kind of guide you’ll want to keep nearby—both for practical reference and just to flip through for its beauty. I especially appreciated the section on baneful herbs, which you don’t often see in beginner-friendly resources. It really sparked my curiosity! Whether you’re just starting your magickal journey or looking for the perfect gift for a new witch in your life, this book is a gem!
