This interesting children's book shows the Christian traditions of Easter from Mardi Gras through Lent with rituals of various foodstuffs, the Easter story which is a spring festival that even includes fun like the easter bunny, dyeing eggs/egg hunts, and more. Nice for Christians and Non Christians alike.
The illustrations by Emma Randall are intricate, brilliantly colorful, and FUN!
Well suited for reading WITH someone any age from 5 and up including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!

I feel like the author made this a very busy book as if they couldn't decide if they wanted a picture book or not. The pages are covered in illustrations but so much of the space filled with wording. I don't see toddlers or smaller children staying put for the entire read. It personally wouldn't be a go to I'd pick up to read for my kids. It was nice at the end they had an activity to make a basket and a couple other things.
This book is a great way for children to understand the Easter story. The book is written from the point of view of a young boy celebrating Easter with his family. It goes through all the religious traditions as well as more secular traditions like the Easter Bunny.
What I absolutely loved about this book was the appendix at the end, it was filled with graphic timelines, quizzes, recipes, crafts and other pieces of interesting information. It was not only informative but also a very interactive read.
The illustrations are bright and interesting and included diverse characters, my favourite being the little girl with the hearing aid. It was such a simple way of making children feel special while reading about the Easter story.
Absolutely adorable book! This would be a really fun Easter book for classrooms. I taught preschool and wish I had this book. Adorably done!
Thank you NetGalley! I loved this book. What a great day by explanation of Easter in a Christian way. I enjoyed reading about each special day and event. I can’t wait to purchase this to read with my children
I loved this story it was really cute. I also loved the illustrations and art in it as well. I 100% recommend it.
This book is an interesting look at one child celebrates Easter with his family. It was interesting to me that the dad kept going to church without his children. Overall I think this is a good Easter read and it does include *almost* the full gospel story at the back with some other resources, but for Easter books I bring into my home, I want the gospel incorporated into the story fully. And the gospel included at the back doesn't highlight fully enough for me the reason we need a savior from our sins.
I absolutely loved this book! The graphics were fantastic. The story was wonderful and incorporated both the religious aspect of the holiday along with the fun parts for kids, like the Easter bunny. I thought the story included everything and was taught in a way that was easily digestible by children and also would help give anyone a full understanding of the Easter holiday. This book even included timelines at the end along with activities and recipes. There is nothing that I did not enjoy about this. I thought it was great from start to finish, the length was perfect for a small children too!
Book six in this series covers Easter, and the build-up to it through the religious month (and more) of Lent. The whole thing is introduced to us by a chatty lad, showing us what his father and siblings are doing on every day, whether it be getting ash smudged across their face or baking hot cross buns with the grandparents. It is definitely from the point of view of the faith-heavy, as while they don't all go to church that often they are certainly observing the whole thing. Towards the end, as elsewhere in this series, we get more educational pages, a recipe, a quick look at Easters from across the world, and a quick quiz to revise with. It's all thoroughly on point for the school or church library, and looks fine too with decent illustrations. A healthy four stars.
Just be aware there was a previous volume by this author with the same one-word title, so make sure to still do your second-hand purchasing with the ISBN for this.
Easter by Nancy Dicknann is a lively picture book to aid in explaining and understanding the meaning of Easter for young children. She includes how children all around the world celebrate this Christian festival.
Come along as Sam and his siblings invite you to celebrate with them. The children along with the adults bake Easter treats, dye eggs, attend Church, admire Spring flowers and new life, hunt for eggs, all culminating with a wonderful Easter Sunday of food and fun with the family.
The text brings in simple language the significance of Shrove Tuesday and the period of lent, the importance of the Easter story and Jesus's sacrifice, the fun to be had baking Easter treats and dying eggs and the delicious food eaten on Easter day, followed by hiding snd hunting the eggs that were dyed previously.
For practical application, she’s included Instructions for making your own Easter basket, a recipe to make delicious hot cross buns, and a quick quiz to try out all your new found knowledge.
My only issue with the book is I didn’t understand why the children didn’t get to attend any of the church services except Sunday morning. Maybe that’s a southern thing taking kids to church everyone the door is open. 😊
But that is just a personal observation. I think this is a great resource for children, parents and children’s worship leaders.
Nancy Dickmann’s Easter is an informative picture book that introduces young readers to the traditions, symbols, and significance of the Easter holiday. This book offers a simple yet thorough overview, making it an excellent resource for children, families, and Christian Education leaders.
Dickmann’s makes complex concepts accessible to young minds. She strikes a balance between the religious aspects of Easter and the cultural elements, like egg hunts and family gatherings. The illustrations are bright and cheerful.
Easter, written by Nancy Dickmann and illustrated by Emma Randall, is a beautiful little Easter story, following the character Sam and his family as they prepare for, and celebrate, Easter. This book explains Lent, includes lots of Easter traditions and activities, includes the Easter story, the Easter season, explains Easter symbols, includes instructions to make an Easter basket, a recipe for hot crossed buns, an explanation of Easter across the world, as well as a little quiz with answers. This is a joyful, colourful book for all children who want to understand what Easter is.
Perfect gift for Catholic children - beautifully illustrated and warm, a big part of the book focuses on the religious origins/aspects of Easter and the emphasis on family, but that is not all. How it is celebrated across the world was a great addition.
Easter by Nancy Dickmann is a delightful and educational read for young children. It successfully introduces the holiday’s traditions and significance in an engaging and age-appropriate manner. With its bright illustrations and clear explanations, it is an excellent resource for families and classrooms looking to share the joy and meaning of Easter with children. Whether for Easter preparation or simply to learn more about the holiday, this book is a wonderful choice for young readers.
Easter by Nancy Dickmann is about Easter from a Catholic child's perspective. It expertly explains the history behind the holiday, as well as delving into traditions such as Lent and Ash Sunday. Simple to understand and very descriptive, it is a perfect book to pick up if you'd like to teach your children about Catholic Easter, or if you'd simply like to teach them about other perspectives of the holiday!
In addition, there are many interesting extras after the main novel (including pages with pictures of the holiday around the world, a chart of when traditional events take place, a how-to on how to make a paper Easter basket, and even a recipe for hot cross buns!).
Easter as a picture book all about the Easter season. It describes different religious holidays that lead up to Easter and the things families might do during those times. I liked that it included activities at the end of the book.
Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group - words and pictures and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
