Thank you, Susan Quinn and NetGalley for the early preview of this Children’s picture book.
Title: My Mom
Author: Susan Quinn
Brief Description: A short picture book that shows all the ways a hands-on mom is present in her child’s life.
Review: As a mom, this book is a great confidence boost to show all of the things I may consider to be “small” are actually BIG things in my child’s life. I love the way this book makes simple things like finding Teddy is a huge win for mom and shows how much we mean in their lives. But that’s just all the feel-goods for me. However, I was anticipating something that incorporates a working mom into the story. I’m not sure what stereo-types were busted with this story as the description says.
With having a 19 month old, I think this book is better suited for above 2 years old. Although I don’t mind the way this book is written, it believe it takes a bit more attention span and understanding. The art on each page is beautiful and captures the vision of art done by a child, which I think is a cute consideration. It is not a book that rhymes and doesn’t have images that might capture the attention of younger children. It was a short read which is one that would be good for a quick nap or bedtime story. With having niblings around 5 years old, it seems appropriate to that age.
My mom is everything that I need her to be and is always there when I need her. My mom is amazing!
The illustrations by Sarah Mathew (Illustrator) are inspired, softly colorful, and FUN!
Well suited for reading WITH someone any age from 4 and up including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a temporary uncorrected e-Galley on Adobe Digital Editions from Quarto Publishing Group – words & pictures | words & pictures via NetGalley. Thank you! Pub Date Feb 25, 2025

This was a really cute and heart warming story that I would love to read to my child! I am always looking for cute stories about how much I love to go on adventures with him and how I have always dreamed of him. The artwork o this read is absolutely beautiful. This book would be perfect for a young child to have read to them!
I read this book to my little ones and they both enjoyed the book immensely. It’s such a sweet little story filled with beautiful illustrations and loving words between mother and child.
Thank you to the Quarto Publishing Group and Netgalley for the arc.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an eARC of this book, "My Mom" by Susan Quinn. This children's book highlights the relationship of a mom and daughter, told from the perspective of the daughter. The daughter describes all the special things her mom does with and for her. It's very sweet. The art is very well done, and fits nicely with the story. Per the notes and description, this is a "stereotype-busting" story about a child who is adopted, however this didn't seem to actually be any part of the book. I didn't see a mention of her biological parents, who must have been quite distraught to have to give up their child. And I didn't see mention of the mom helping the child connect with her cultural roots. So I'm confused about how that connects to the story. It also appears that this is a transracial adoption, which is an incredibly problematic and inherently trauma-inducing practice. This is a "do not recommend" for me, but the story is ok if you ignore the adoption subplot, so I'll allow 2 stars, since most children would not notice that it's about adoption without an adult pointing it out.
My Mom is a wonderfully sweet story of a young girl explaining all of the reasons why her mother is amazing. From imaginative adventures to days running through the woods, we get a glimpse into the fun, comfort, and love shared between the two! The illustrations are equally as sweet. The story itself is also inclusive in two understated but important aspects: it's implied that the daughter was adopted, and there is a visible physical disability throughout (that is clearly shown to not impact the mom's awesomeness at all!)
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a free eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the eARC! This is a heartwarming story about all the adventures a child and their mom go on. It shows a healthy child mother relationship. The illustrations are well done too! Moms are amazing!
It’s a cute book. Seems like a kid wrote it but the drawings are sweet. My daughter enjoyed it. Thank you NetGalley for the arc.
This was a super cute and quick read. The illustrations were adorable and creative. It was relatable to the relationship I’m trying to build with my toddler and inspired me to continue on making his life fun and imaginative while showing him so much love.
I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – words & pictures through NetGalley.
Charming and encouraging story about all that moms do. This young girl shares everything she and her mom do together. Mom handles every situation with love and makes her feel safe and warm. The artwork captures the love and joy in this relationship. A perfect gift for moms on Mother's Day to remind them how special they are.
A very quick beautiful story about the mother-daughter bond, highly recommend for those with little ones.
Super cute book! I enjoyed reading this to my daughter however she got bored after the fourth page. Not really meant for 3 year olds but I enjoyed it at least!
One of those books designed to confirm love between parent and child, this one features a mother selflessly giving of what seems like all her time and more to be with her daughter. It's this mother, and nobody else, who does open stuffing surgery on Teddy, dreams up imaginative play in the back garden, goes on hikes, invents bedtime adventure stories, and so on. The book is from the point of view of the thankful child, and so this is geared as a gift to the older generation. Which kind of makes it an extended Mother's Day card. Me? I can only think such a thing is a niche product, when such cards ought to be able to say the same thing more cheaply and in fewer words and less space – oh, and that seaweed hairbands must really be quite pongy.
This story is very cute and shows the importance of being a mom to the child. I also liked the illustrations.
This is the sweetest story for moms and kids alike. Being in the thick of my second post-partum it is easy to feel like I'm not seen, but this story reminds us of all that we do as moms and how our kiddos see up. My children were a dream that I thought would never come for a good portion of my life, much like the mom in the book. The ending made me tear up, because when your kids can't tell you they love you yet, it's nice to know they do in their own way. I will bet getting this story for all the moms in my life.
Just the cutest book. So sweet, about a girl and her mom. Beautiful illustrations and just overall heart warming.
Indeed Mom can fix everything 🥹❤️
Such a beautiful ode to the priceless mother-daughter bond! The illustrations are stunning and I love the imagery of the prose. A timeless read brimming with warmth and love.
In love with this book! The art is absolutely gorgeous and the story, heart-touching. Would recommend it to those who enjoy their relationship with their moms, who would like to refresh or rekindle with their moms, and who are moms themselves. Would love a physical copy!
This is an emotionally charged book about a mother and her child. This is perfect for the mother who dreams of her child long before her child enters her life.
My toddler loved this! I honestly loved it too! This book was a quick read that kept my 2.5 yo’s interest. The illustrations were incredibly vibrant and fun. The topic, while not revolutionary, was so sweet and heartwarming. This book would make a fabulous baby shower gift!
