My toddler loved this! I honestly loved it too! This book was a quick read that kept my 2.5 yo’s interest. The illustrations were incredibly vibrant and fun. The topic, while not revolutionary, was so sweet and heartwarming. This book would make a fabulous baby shower gift!
Thanking Susan Quinn, Sarah Mathew, Quarto Publishing Group, and Netgalley for the sneak preview of this Children’s Picture Book. Read on for a review of this title.
This short picture book is a celebration of typical, hands-on mothers. It serves as a great reminder to both parent and child of just how amazing a mum can be. As a mother myself, it made me feel warm and fuzzy inside looking at the awe of all I do through the eyes of my children because although a little unnamed girl tells the story, she could just as easily be one of my sons talking about me.
The book conjures up wild pictures to complement a child’s wild imagination about such simple activities such as having a picnic, painting pictures, and making snowmen. I liked that the language was simple and lacked rhyme and embellishments. The pictures were also complimentary of the scenes that were unfolding. They are the kind of pictures that feel rushed and have a wishy-washy overall look but when you look deeper at them, they convey a lot of detail within the scene rather than within each object.
The book is a quick read, with very few words on each page. It is an ideal bedtime story for children under the age of five years. As each scene unfolds, the child ages up to around this age, and the day darkens even though the story is actually covering several years. I recommend this book to parents and caregivers that have a strong bond with their children. There is a strong sense of a stay-at-home parent in the book, and there is no mention of a dad so it could be well-suited to families of a similar dynamic. All in all, it was a touching read that deserves 5 out of 5 stars.

This picture book had really great illustrations, and the story was sweet. However, I think books for young kids like this one are better when they rhyme - they’re more engaging. This one easily could’ve rhymed with tweaks to a couple words on each page,
Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group: words & pictures for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
A fascinating children's book, loaded with beautiful pictures. This book is good, both for children with parents or single moms. This book also tells the children about a supermom and fabulous experiences that happened to the children. I'm a little bit envious of the daily activities of the kids, and the different childhood activities with city-raised kids. I hope this book will satisfy the future reader with a beautifully framed children-mother relationship.
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – words & pictures for the opportunity to read and review this beautiful e-ARC: 'My Mom by Susan Quinn.'
4 stars out of 5.
What a fantastic little children's book about the relationship between daughter and her mother. Beautiful illustrations that remind me of drawing as a child her age. The layouts of the words and images are pleasing and exciting to the eye. Any children's library or bookshelf would be honored to house this short story.
Would recommend to any child who loves a beautiful art filled book.
Beautiful illustrations and lovely story that really hit on all the maternal emotions. I read it with both my 7 and 4 year olds and both equally enjoyed this read!
Very cute book about a mom and her child. This would be a good one for those without a father figure in their life, as it talks about mom being able to do everything they need in the best ways!
Very well illustrated story of girl and her mom and the adventures they take in a day.
I found the story to be very sweet and one my granddaughters would enjoy.
This was so sweet. The imagery was phenomenal. For example, the illustration of the little girls dream was top tier. Really a phenomenal book all around
Such a sweet mother-child-portrayal! All the things mothers do, not only physically (ehem mental load ehem) but also emotionally, are shown. Catching their children when they're afraid or sad or can't sleep and finding new ideas for "adventures" every day. I do feel like the art style fits the sujet of the book, even though the smiles sometimes seem quite two-dimensional.
A young daughter and her mom’s special bond and adventures are the main topics of book.
I liked that the scenes/situations had a unique take as well as the fresh illustrations.
My Mom by Susan Quinn is a delightful and meaningful book for young readers. Its heartfelt narrative, gentle tone, and beautiful illustrations make it an excellent choice for children and parents alike, offering a touching tribute to the special bond shared between a mother and her child. It’s a perfect addition to any child’s bookshelf and a wonderful way to celebrate the love of a mother.
I’m always looking for children’s books that show different experiences. While not entirely explicit, it is implied that this is a story of a mother and an adopted child. The illustrations are beautiful and capture the imagination of a child so very well. The message of going on adventures with a mom was shown perfectly and I appreciated the writing of the beginning and ending pages especially.
A special thanks to NetGalley, Susan Quinn and Words & Pictures for the eARC.
Perfect for mothers to read with their children! A lovely story from the child's point of view with some adorable illustrations. Would 100% recommend.
What a beautiful and uplifting story! The illustrations were stunning and the story had me teary at times, I would definitely recommend. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Uplifting, warm book about mom from the child’s perspective/voice. Sweetly written. The art is really fun and beautiful. The movement of the words and big page spreads is nicely done! So much color!
I read this book with my daughter and we both loved it.
The story is very well written, it is easy to read and follow and it had some beautiful illustrations.
I thought that the story was heartwarming and it had a great message.
I make sure that we have a girly trip at least once a month and spend the day doing something together, this can be visiting an old house, gardens, castle, garden centre or cinema trip - the book showcases what is most important and that is spending time together - we always make sure it is fun and take a bunch of photos when we go out to make memories we can treasure and look at over and over.
This would be the perfect story to give to any mother at any time but it would be a great present for Mother's Day too.
It is 5 stars from me for this one - very highly recommended!
When I had my daughter I started out as a single mom: This book is so beautifully illustrated! I loved reading it to my toddler. The colors were really captivating and the language was one she could understand. We really enjoyed this sweet mom and me book!
