It's always enjoyable when a detective duo meet and are instantly adversarial towards each other. It means the characters have somewhere to go during the course of the novel. The gulf between ex detective Lola and Ingrid, a flamboyant ,American masseuse with a penchant for all things Parisienne, is immense. .. and that is why they work so well as a team. I enjoyed getting to know them and seeing their relationship evolve as much as I enjoyed their investigation into the death of their neighbour. This was a gritty and refreshing read with humour to balance it!
