Fall in Love, You False Angels, follows a class president and vice-president that are considered perfect people: beautiful, always polite, and treating everyone with kindness. Except they’re both very aware of how hot they are, and use it for their benefit. After one uncomfortable interaction on the train station, the truth comes out and they both learn about each other’s dark side, and agree to keep it between them. Except Otogi gets a crush on her vice-president and now spends her days wondering if it’s mutual.

This was short and sweet, like all printed manga. The second chapter felt a little like a filler, but generally this has all the elements of a sweet shojo story: heartbeats, developing feelings, will-they-won’t-they, small acts of kindness that make the main character fall in love even more. I look forward to learning what happens to Otogi and Toki next.

[Thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha for an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.]

This story has a definite charm to it and while it may seem like I’m not rating it highly, I have great expectations for it in coming volumes. The foundation is here, it just needs to build on it.

Otogi is the perfect angel at school, but her facade hides a very sharp tongue. When it lashes out in front of her equally angelic classmate, Toki, it turns out that neither of them adhere to the facade they put forward in school. Cue Otogi being obsessed while denying being obsessed.

If I have a primary complaint, it’s about how much this story keeps Otogi on the back foot. While not as bad as some other stories I’ve read, a lot of the drama involves imperilling Otogi and then Toki stepping in. I’d much rather the two of them had a little more equality amidst their similarities.

In the same vein, there’s also the way Otogi keeps trying to rattle Toki, but seems to be the only one who’s getting that doki-doki feeling. Oh, there are hints, but this absolutely is not the second coming of Kaguya-sama. They’re both interesting, at least, but the dynamic’s more skewed than I tend to like.

The reason I think this story has potential is because it is, in fact, gorgeously drawn, with a face game that sometimes harkens back to You and I Are Polar Opposites (ironically). The scenes of Otogi desperately fighting Cupid’s arrows are very amusing.

Second, the entire coffee shop storyline is an absolute belter and if the whole thing had been like that this would be a five star review with no notes.

It opens up with Otogi preparing to refuse an offer to meet Toki, but every time she tries her subconscious gets in the way and she does the exact opposite. It’s very, very funny and I hope this turns into an ongoing gag.

Once she reaches the shop, she gets to meet Toki being both his most charming and most true to self. There’s a lot of really fun backstory and plot revelations, all tangled up with some light flirting and a dash of romance. It’s really well done.

Not all the characters make such a strong impression; one of the supporting cast really works and the others are fairly unmemorable and/or kind of annoying. Sometimes the writing is there, others not so much. This reads like a first volume of something that needs to find its footing.

The story’s central conceit about maintaining a facade and finding the person who loves you for your true self is good enough. It doesn’t hurt that the true selves of both these goofs just happens to be a lot frostier than their goody two shoes routine at school.

Needless to say, that doesn’t beget rampant hooliganism; this isn’t that sort of story. It’s shojo through and through, no matter how Otogi tries to frame Toki’s other side as particularly badass. A blackened marshmallow is still a marshmallow inside.

3.5 stars - It doesn’t quite hang together perfectly, but I definitely see where it could pull itself together into something special. And, even if it doesn’t, that non-date date made it worth my time anyway.

The epitome of beauty, Otogi Katsura—known as the school's Madonna—and Toki Ninomae, the princely class vice-president, both maintain flawless reputations. Yet, behind their graceful facade, they’re hiding a more bold and wild side no one knows. That is until they discover reach others secret.

While this may not be a totally new concept—especially in the shojo genre with its classic class president-vice president dynamic, hidden personalities, and school romance setting— it remains a guilty pleasure I love revisiting. I found myself laughing out loud at Otogi’s hilarious inner ramblings and reactions to Toki. That said, I do wish there had been more development and interactions in each scene. Sometimes, it felt like one moment wrapped up, and before I knew it, we were jumping straight to the next. As a result, the scenes felt more like isolated ‘snapshots’ rather than a continuous story.

Loved the little translation notes at the end since not every reader will be familiar with the Japanese language, honorific and nuances, so these explanations provide a better understanding of the text and offer an educational insight that will be useful for other Japanese media as well.

Overall, this was a delightful and easy read! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

I love a platinum-haired boy + pink-haired girl combo, but this one just did not work for me. The story flow felt a bit awkward, and I wanted more details on many scenes.

“I saw it for myself yesterday! Ikkoku-kun also has another side of him. And I dub it… Dark Ikkoku.”

Well, this manga was a bit of a surprise. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. The main characters are both pretty, quiet, and polite. They are the perfect “angels”—the two model students. Everybody adores them. They could do no harm. But when Katsura’s carefully crafted mask slips, Ikkoku reveals that he’s just like her: not an angel at all.

That art is phenomenal. I love Katsura’s and Ikkoku’s design! Coco Uzuki is a real master when it comes to facial expressions and mannerisms. The characters feel completely different when they shift into their alter egos. I didn’t find a single panel I didn’t like.

I think there is potential for the story to develop and grow, but at the moment, Goodreads only lists 4 volumes, which doesn’t leave me hopeful. I’m going to keep an eye on this series anyway. Highly recommended for those of us who always fall for the bad boys ✨.

I have received an eARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

4.5/5 because I'm not sure where one of the sub plotlines will go.

Katsura Otogi works hard to be the most beautiful, sweet, perfect class president. She knows she's a heartthrob and is looking to find an appropriate match as her first boyfriend. Vice president Ninomae Toki might just be the perfect choice with his kind smile, luscious locks and considerate personality. Except, a chance encounter reveals to each other their secret wild sides. Otogi is falling for the boy quickly, but does he feel the same? Not to mention, they are both super popular, there's sure to be some competition.

Early on I had a strong feeling I'm reading Kaguya-sama x KareKano, but it just works, so I don't mind. I love smart, astute MCs with firm personalities and these two are definitely that. One of the early chapters establishes their strong moral character (despite all the playing pretend), while also setting the tone a little darker than could previously be assumed. I hope we get to see some similar adventures in the series in the future, I'd love for Otoki and Ikkoku (as she calls him) to use their brains for problem solving.

The art style is gorgeous and the main characters' expressions melt you on the inside. I'm obsessed with their designs, especially the hair styles, even on minor characters. I can't wait to see more.

My one gripe with this volume was a comment from Ikkoku towards the end of the volume. We meet a boy called Nene who is implied to be a slightly unhealthy fan of the vice president and Ikkoku talks about him rather dismissively. Which is, on the one hand, understandable, but if in future volumes it turns out that Nene-kun is supposed to be gay representation I will be pretty disappointed. I really hope he does not become a negative foil for the heroine, but rather it goes the typical "we became friends and everyone found their own partner" route.

All in all, I'm looking forward to the next volume. This last chapter certainly upped the drama.

I picked this series up because I love pretty boys with long hair (and Toki is the prettiest 💞) but really, I mostly stayed for Otogi’s chaotic inner turmoils! Desperate to keep her blooming feelings in check, her behaviour around Toki was so adorably funny. Constantly keeping up with her “angel” facade did take a toll on her at some point, so it’s nice seeing how she allowed herself to be more free with expressing herself in front of Toki (although it always ended up with her own heart racing 💕)

While I loved everything about this manga especially the budding romance, I feel like the English translation really fell short. I feel like both Otogi and Toki are not sharp-tongued enough, their wordings probably getting lost in translation. It was even explained in the translation notes at the end of the book that Toki used “watashi” (formal) when addressing himself in his light mode, and used “ore” (informal and mainly used by men) when in his dark mode. The formal and informal language used are what made the entire point of Otogi and Toki being “false angels”, so being unable to experience that in English is such a shame. I feel like if one is not used to this point of the Japanese language, they would miss the meaning of this story.

I will still scream and yap about this manga series non-stop though because they’re both the prettiest and most adorable and I absolutely cannot wait for the anime adaptation to come out!

Thanks to the publisher for sharing this manga for review. The pacing initially seemed a bit abrupt, but I really enjoy the concept of both protagonists hiding their real sides from everyone but each other. The art is also very cute. It's a bit hard to guess where this story is going, and so far the conflicts all seem very surface level - I am hoping for a bit more the intrigue or drama, but looking forward to the next instalment!

I enjoyed this read SO much. This manga reminded me that my 5/5 feels are on a whole other level; I had to go back to lower the score of another manga review because it didn't hit like this one did.

Now let me rave about this story. I read this volume in one sitting. I then had to look up when the next volumes would be published. THEN I looked up what other works by Coco Uzuki were available. I went down a rabbit hole because I was desperate to feel the butterflies again.

The art is gorgeous. I'm a very picky manga/manhwa reader. I don't want to waste my time looking at ugly art. My eyes were feasting on these pages!

The two main characters are ADORABLE. I love the storyline of them carrying a facade at school. I'm sure many of us are familiar with that feeling. The ability to be yourself with people you are comfortable with is one of the best feelings in the world. I'm so happy these two found each other. By the last few pages, I was internally screaming to "KISS ALREADY!"

I'm all in on this series. I cannot wait to see how Katsura and Ninomae's relationships continues to develop!
I can't thank NetGalley enough for ARC!!!

First of all I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the early copy of the book.

It was very cute, the character were well developed and it had funny elements to it, my only critique would be that it's alittle all over the place in terms of the time between scenes andthat transition of time not being showed anywhere on the page.

📖Fall in Love, You False Angels by Coco Uzuki 📖

The Japanese hit manga rom-com comes to print! The sweet smiles across the faces of the “perfect” student council duo hide secret, tough- as -nails personalities. These two- faced angels vie for dominance while keeping up their flawless act… but how long will it take for contention to give away to attraction??

There’s always something magical about reading a rom-com manga book that takes you through all the emotions. I just adore watching and hoping that couples fall in love and end up together. They’re imperfectly perfect together. When you read this, you’ll find out why it has the title “false angels”, so clever and cute.

“I'm supposed to the ultimate madonna, the unattainable flower that's admired by everyone. So why do I feel like....I'm dancing in the palm of his hand?

💖 Otogi Katsura and Toki Ninomae are the two heartthrobs that everyone in school envies. After Otogi gets harassed at a train stop and puts her harassers in their place, Toki sees a side of her that intrigues him. Otogi gets to see that side of Toki when he puts a teacher in his place for coming onto another student. Both realizing they have a 'dark' side to them creates an attraction that's undeniable, and the rest is history.

💖 This was cute. It was not what I expected, but it was cute. I think I was hoping the 'dark' side would be something a little more than the ability to not be exceptionally nice 24/7, but it was quite literally just that.

💖 However, I really loved the art style, and the characters were adorable. It was easy to read and full of detail. This sets a good foundation for our two main characters, and I definitely will continue this to see where they end up. :)

This was such a fun light read and I’m invested to read more. It was fun they both had “two faces” and how they’ll evolve from there I will keep an eye out for future volumes

Otogi Katsura is the class president, the renowned school’s Madonna, and beautiful to boot. Toki Ninimae is the class vice president, a good person, and his grades are top of the class. An ideal Presidential Class Duo. However, these two are both wearing masks to hide their real selves from the world, but will they reveal it to each other?
I haven’t read any kind of shojo beat since I was teenager. This volume brought me back to those nostalgic days, reading all the volumes I could get my hands on and hoping for a love like theirs. I’m excited for this couple's story to hopefully continue in the next volume.

A new manga boy has entered the scene 😂 Ninomae is so pretty to look at. Katsura is super narcissistic, but honestly I thought it was hilarious (it's giving Gojo). I love how they both have a "hidden" side about them, but they don't feel fake even when they're being overly nice.

This is my first manga of 2025 and it was so good! I was worried that it wasn't going to live up to my high expectations, but I loved it. Rom-Com Shoujo manga's are my favorite and this series has so much potential.

Love the style of illustration with the beautiful sparkling eyes and flowing long hair, gorgeous. Very cute story. I can't wait to read part 2!

Finished my first book in 2025 and it’s one of my most favourite shoujo series (づ> v <)づ♡ ˖ ݁𖥔 ݁˖ 𐙚 ˖ ݁𖥔 ݁˖

Katsura Otogi has always been called a perfect beauty and even earned the title “heartthrob angel” at school, but no one knows of her true calculating and sharp-tongued real self. Somehow, her secret was unraveled in front of the graceful prince of the school, Ninomae Toki, who surprised her back by revealing his own “dark side” and declaring her his partner in crime. Honestly, these two are just meant to be (ㅅ´ ˘ `) ༘⋆✿

This was really good. I truly enjoyed it and couldn't put it down. I finished it very fast. I laughed a lot and I love the fmc otogi and the MMC Toki. They have a good dynamic. The art is beautiful 😍 and again I loved the humor!!!!

Thanks netgalley for the arc ✨
