Three and a half stars. Two bodies are found on a Cornwall beach and it's down to DI Lauren Pengelly and her sidekick Matt to determine who was behind these suspicious deaths. Great depictions of Cornwall and a decent enough story, I just didn't connect with the characters enough. Thanks to Net galley for the advanced copy.

Quick, easy read. Didn’t pull me in enough and didn’t feel strong ties to any of the characters. Not bad, but not great. Solid three stars.

An easy read, but missing the spark.
This mystery had an interesting premise, but it just didn’t pull me in the way I’d hoped. I figured out the killer early on, and the characters felt a bit flat—I never really connected with them. The detective team is described as close, but their interactions felt more formal than familiar. Overall, it’s a quick read with a decent storyline, but not as gripping as promised. 3 stars from me.
Thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for the eARC.

I love these stories of Cornwall Murder Mystery. I find the descriptions of Cornwall make a great background for the plot. The characters are interesting and develop with each book. I enjoy their interactions. As the plot itself is always well constructed and interesting I can only highly recommend.

When DI Lauren Pengelly's dogs find a couple lying dead on a blanket on a beach suicide is the first thing that comes to mind, although that doesn't really fit well with the champagne and the engagement ring found on the scene.
Soon the team working the two deaths start to suspect that this a double murder. Although the author throws in a lot of red herrings and diversions to me it was obvious who the murderer was quite early on in the book. Still, it is an interesting read. It was also nice to read about the developments in the lives of DI Pengelly and her sidekick Matt Price.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Detective Inspector Lauren Pengelly went to the beach with her two dogs who followed their curious noses and found two bodies !
Jealousy has a way of taking over people's sensibilities. Was it an accident, a murder, or an accident? Whatever it was, it is pretty awful.
This police procedural runs through the possibilities and the possible suspects in the search for the truth.
Thank you for the ARC of this book.

Lauren discovers a tragic scene when walking her dogs on Porthcurno beach. The young couple who appeared to be celebrating a happy occasion were dead in suspicious circumstances. This is a steady and thorough police investigative mystery in a domestic setting. It is poignant and suspenseful, with a few credible suspects. I invested in the characters and immersed myself in the investigation, but this story, whilst tragic, didn't have the intensity of some of the previous stories. However, the final chapter introduces another event that promises to be compelling. I like the detailed investigation, the emotion and the dynamic within the police investigation team.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

🌅 A breathtaking beach setting, Prosecco, the question of the promise of forever, until forever is taken away and never has the opportunity to come…Jealousy, deception, hidden secrets, lies, and an ultimate betrayal between those so deeply loved.

🐾 🐾 Inspector Lauren Pengelly is enjoying a beautiful, relaxing stroll on the beach with her border collies Ben and Tia. Ben and Tia stumble upon something that should never be discovered, along with a note with one word, SORRY. What appears to be is not at all what it actually is.

🍾 Inspector Pengelly and Detective Sergeant Matt Price have very limited information in trying to uncover who was behind this mysterious discovery and the motivation that led to it. Together with their team, they unearth surprising details through hard detective work. Can they find who would have access to the one piece of evidence that can wrap up this case and find the person responsible before any additional bodies are found?

🌊 Death at Porthcurno Cove is the fifth book in Sally Rigby’s Cornwall Murder Mystery series. I am not typically a fan of police procedural books, as I find them to be a bit repetitive, BUT NOT with this series. There is honestly something about this series that I absolutely LOVE! I am able to connect to these characters easily, enjoy their banter, and love the relationships they have together. Sally Rigby has developed something special here with this series. I have read books 4 and 5, and will be going back to read 1-3. They are quick, enjoyable reads.

The ending of this book was 🤯. The set up is there for the next one and boy am I going to be here for it!!! This book is out for publication now.

Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for allowing me to review this book. All opinions are my own. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Have read a few of this author this is quite good, steady going, Detective Pengelly out with her dogs on Porthcurno beach when she comes across a body staged now the time is of the essence to find out who she is and where she comes from.
A steady pace good story although I did get who done it quite early on.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Storm Publishing for an ARC copy, and this review is entirely my own.

You are pulled straight into the story, as Lauren Pengelly finds a young couple on a beach in dire circumstances. The story is well written and is woven around several friends of the couple, who may or not be involved. Fast paced from start to finish.

Porthcurno Cove is picturesque but Detective Lauren did not expect to find two dead bodies on her morning walk. Two youngsters, a bottle of Prosecco by their side and a note saying Sorry. Murder suicide was the natural thoughts of all on the force but slowly a different picture emerges of the seemingly young couples carefree life, holding secrets that their parents were blithely unaware of.

The investigation was slow because no evident clues sprang out. No enemies, no incidents at home or university, no drug problems. The final outcome was startling and ugly. The detective skills were thorough and the story panned out well.

Thank you for allowing me to review this latest book in the series. Another very good crime fiction story. I am enjoying reading hiw the relationship between Lauren and her team is developing. Also, how Matt has fitted in so well. This death was particularly disturbing as a young couple celebrating are found dead by Lauren's dogs whilst out for an early walk. The sensitivity shown to the families and the feelings of the team are well written. The Cornish setting is also well described.
Highly recommended.

During a walk along the beach DI Lauren Pengelly's dog discover two bodies. Was is suicide or foul play? Pathology will decide.
I really enjoy the location, the police procedures and the coming together of the pieces in this puzzle.
The cast of potential suspects has us guessing, will it be obvious or someone else altogether?
So many twists in this story, I was invested in the characters and wondered who it could be.
Great crime, I loved every moment.

We are quickly thrown into the "whodunit" story, when the lead police detective Lauren Pengelly, actually discovers the victims, while out walking her dogs. "Death at Porthcurno Cove" by Sally Rigby is part of a series, of which I have read none. And I didn't feel I was disadvantaged by this.
A fast paced read, going behind the scenes of police protocol and procedure, investigating the unexplained death of a happy young couple. We meet a group of young adults who had grown up together in a small seaside town, before heading off to uni and staying in close contact. Plenty of twists and turns had me doubting my own intuition....but I was happy to know I had the killer nailed before the ending.
We do dip onto the personal life of the police staff, which to me wasn't necessary. But I guess it links the series of books and readers become more invested in these characters as the work their way through the Cornwell murder series.
While I found the standoff with the gun abit over the top, I overall enjoyed the guessing game of the murder mystery.
Thanks to NetGalley, Storm Publishing and Sally Rigby for my copy.

Death at Porthcurno Cove by Sally Rigby is the fifth installment in the Cornwall Murder Mystery series. This can however be read as a standalone novel without feeling like you are missing too many details.

When Detective Lauren Pengally stumbles upon the scene of a newly engaged couple dead in the sand, she knows that there is more to this story than a tragic double suicide. But as Lauren and her partner dig deeper into this case it is clear that this was a double murder. What could have happened to this couple?

I went into this one without knowing that is was part of a series but I honestly don't think it had any bearing at all on the story for me. The plot was good, just enough tension and suspense without it being too heavy. As far as a police procedural, some parts especially the forensic aspects needed me to suspend my beliefs a little, mainly the timeline, but that absolutely did not stop me from enjoying this novel. All in all Death at Porthcurno Cove was a good, intriguing novel and I would be interested in starting at the beginning of the series.

Thank you to NetGalley, Sally Rigby, and Storm Publishing for this ARC. Expected publication date is March 19th 2025.

A mystery set in sunny Cornwall - what's not to like?

Out for a morning run along the beach with her dogs, the last thing Detective Lauren Pengelly is thinking about is work - but when she is alerted to two dead bodies, her working day begins a bit sooner than planned. At first, it looks like a suicide but something isn't right - and Lauren is determined to find out what. Along with her partner, Matt Price, they begin their investigation . . .

I loved the setting in this one. What seems like a straightforward puzzle really tests the patience of the investigators as they go back and forth, chasing down every lead. I did manage to work out the guilty party ahead of the end. For me, 4*.

My thanks to the publisher for my copy via NetGalley.
