I’ll start with the author’s endnotes on how this book can be a back-pocket mentor and can never replace a career mentor, I endorse the genuineness here!
A quick look into the author’s blogs or even authenticity on LinkedIn (content made through to content promoted) gives the big picture of where the author’s coming from; with this agile, ever changing work environment. Top three categories buy-in categories for me were – book’s structure, growth focus area and conscientious choice of words.
Without spoiling too much, here’s my key takeaways or rather ‘pocket-reminder’ as I manoeuvre through my late twenties in a male-dominated industry.
1. Being your best advocate
2. Prioritising authenticity – I overlook this a lot, especially since my migration to this new country
3. The ‘how-tos’ of breaking down long-term goals into smaller, realistic and achievable goals (revamp of iSMART technique?)
4. Importance of fostering innovation and creativity

A dopamine shot, a secret nudge to help you re-identify what’s important for you at work.

4.5/5 stars + recommend!

I am on the quest to cultivate a nourishing career, and I wanted to read this book to gain practical insights on how to build confidence to ask for what I need, establishing a self development plan, leveraging networks and navigating conflicts in the workplace- and what I found instead were revelations on the thought process.
I will admit that I did not find the 'how to' steps and insights into the three key things I was looking for shared above, and just by reading the book, I got to reflect more on what I truly want to achieve, and there is a great chapter on confidence and how this builds onto communication and strategy in this book.
Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.
