Killing Time by Jodi Taylor is a fast paced story full of action and suspense. This book is a time traveling mystery and is the fifth installment in the Time Police series. We are introduced to a world where both chaos and history collide with each other.
The story is full of humor which made the story quite well balanced between the moments of tension and the more levity ones. The protagonists of the story are an unlikely trio but their banter and growth throughout the story add a certain depth to the narrative making us root from them while they navigate in their dangerous world.
Overall, this is a good book, with an interesting plot, very well crafted and with a few twists to it. I found it a bit overwhelming at some points but felt like the ending was perfectly wrapped and left me excited to see what will come next.

This was the first Time Police book I've read, despite being a huge fan of Jodi Taylor's St Mary's books.
It's full of similar humour to the St Mary's books, very funny at times and definitely made me laugh.
The runaway ghost train and the efforts to track it were entertaining, it was good to see Matthew and the Time Map again.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be reading the earlier books in this series, although I found this book fine to read as a standalone.

Well, what can I say? Another Time Police rollercoaster of a novel. Team 236 rise to face self inflicted challenges again. This is my favourite author and I love her books. I could read a book by Jodi Taylor every week.

another excellent read from Jodi Taylor. It feels like quite a while since I've been in touch with the Time Police, but this was like picking up where I left off. Lovely to see Matthew getting to grips with the Time Map again, though I did miss Max. As always, a brilliant piece of writing and I can't recommend enough.

The Time Police is different to the usual books that I read however I enjoyed trying something a bit different for a change. I applied for this book on NetGalley before realising it was part of a series so I bought the first book in the series to get a bit of background to the story and characters before reading this one, which I do think was necessary. I think I would have enjoyed this book more had I read the other books as well, however I still enjoyed reading it.
Luke, Jane and Matthew are a trio that you can’t help but love. Three completely different personalities come together to make a great team and provide the reader with lots of laughs. I like that the book has a historical element to it whilst also providing humour and suspense. I do feel like I would enjoy the series more had I have read the St Mary’s books as there are references throughout, but this didn’t impact the read significantly.
Overall I did enjoy reading this book and felt the writing style was good, however the genre just isn’t my favourite so based on that factor alone, this was a 3* read for me. Thank you NetGalley and Headline publishing for me ARC.

Killing Time is a mind bending romp through science and time. Grab a cup of coffee, sit down and be prepared to suspend all thoughts of reality, have a bit of a laugh and hold your breath occasionally. Jodi Taylor's imagination is incredible as always and the books are fantastic

Killing Time by Jodi Taylor is a delightful, fast-paced blend of wit, action, and suspense that delivers everything you’d want from a time-traveling mystery. As the fifth installment in the Time Police series, it introduces a world where chaos and history collide, all while keeping you thoroughly entertained.
Taylor’s signature humor shines through every page, perfectly balancing the tension of the plot with moments of levity. The trio at the heart of the story—Luke, Jane, and Matthew—are an unlikely but instantly lovable team. Their banter, quirks, and growth over the course of the book add a wonderful depth to the narrative, making you root for them as they navigate the dangerous world of time policing.
The plot is intricately crafted, with high-stakes missions, clever twists, and a richly imagined backdrop of historical and futuristic settings. The pacing is brisk, pulling you along for the ride, though there are a few moments where the world-building feels a touch overwhelming. Still, Taylor manages to tie everything together in a way that’s both satisfying and leaves you eager for the next book.
Killing Time is an absolute treat for fans of time-travel adventures, brimming with sharp writing, memorable characters, and plenty of heart. A strong 4.5 stars—this is a fantastic start to a series that promises even more fun and chaos ahead!

Jodi Taylor has done it again with Killing Time, delivering a brilliantly hilarious romp through history—this time with a twist of conspiracy. The Time Police team is in for a wild ride as Luke and Jane find themselves trapped on a ghost train lost in time, facing old enemies and unexpected challenges. As always, Taylor’s trademark humour shines through, making even the most bizarre situations feel fun and thrilling. With a growing sense of chaos, both in time and at Time Police HQ, things are getting delightfully weird for Team Weird, and it couldn’t be better. Fast-paced, witty, and full of twists, Killing Time is another fantastic addition to the series that fans will absolutely love.

Book 5 of the Time Police series does not disappoint. Sadly, no St Mary's involvement, but that might be for the better.
Team Weird, together with Team 235 have to stop a runaway steam train that's been chug-chug-chugging all over the timeline and across several continents.
Meanwhile at TPHQ there is a funding and staffing problem. The latter might be solved by throwing officers down the stairs.
