Harlan Coben is a master storyteller and Nobody’s Fool doesn’t let you down in this genre of thriller. Coben’s books are always fast paced, keeping you engaged until the final twist and this is no exception. I read Fool Me Once so many years ago that to be honest I didn’t remember much about Sam at all, and this completely works as a stand alone thriller.

Sam Kierce is happily married, with a baby, an ex cop who didn’t leave the force in the best of circumstances, and although struggling financially is making his world work, taking on jobs and teaching true crime at night school.

His world is turned upside down when his ex girlfriend turns up to the night school class. He hasn’t seen her for 25 years when he left her for dead in an apartment in Spain. Sam knew he hadn’t killed her but had ended up fleeing the country when he called his dad, who told him that as a young Pakistani boy in a strange country, he should just get himself home. He has been wracked with guilt ever since.

So is this woman actually Anna, or some kind of hallucinations, or worse, a hoax? And if she is real, what happened back in Spain and why has she turned up now? This is a real life mystery that Sam can get his night class to start working on - and they prove to be ready students.

As you’d expect from Coben, the story takes quite a while to untangle and there are some dead bodies along the way. The story gets mixed up with the kidnapping of a young heiress about 25 years ago and serious money always raises the stakes.

This is a ripping rollercoaster of a read, good fun, completely enagaging, with plenty of twists along the way. Sam is a likeable lead as is his wife, Molly. You find yourself rooting for them and looking for the best possible outcome.

An easy and enjoyable read, I’d recommend this to Coben fans and anyone who likes a suburban thriller!

This is a clever crime thriller that I really enjoyed.
Sami Kierce has tried to put his past behind him and is happy with his wife and young child, but when he sees someone from his past, he can’t help but react.
Kierce tries to speak to the woman but when she runs, he’s unable to catch her.
He’s able to track her to her home and is surprised to find a huge property and armed men protecting it.
Kierce is later made an offer he can’t refuse and the story then kicks up a gear.
I won’t spoil what happens as you need to let it all unfold gradually as you read it, and you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks to Random House UK for the opportunity to read this book.

Nobody’s Fool by Harlan Coben beat any expectations I had out of the park!!!
Sami Kierce is a private investigator, trying to navigate his life after a face from the past turns up in the back of his night class. This woman looks remarkably like an old girlfriend he thought he killed while he was in Spain. He was having some time out before settling into medical school, back when he was young. He never knew what happened and it has always haunted him. Obviously he starts to find out what happened and where she is….
There are so many tidbits here and there for us as the reader to connect up, that I was really obsessed with it!! Top marks!!!!
Many thanks to Random House Uk for the opportunity to read this arc copy via Netgalley. My opinion is my own.

Nobody’s Fool is the second book in this series but can definitely be read as a standalone.
Sami is young and backpacking around Spain with his friends until he meets Anna. He falls head over heels but when he wakes up next to her with a knife in his hand and her covered in blood and dead his carefree life ends instantly. His father tells him to get home asap and it is never spoken about again. Now Sami is a private investigator who also runs classes for wannabe investigators, whilst at a class a woman that looks similar to Anna walks in then runs out. Sami follows her as he needs to know how she can be alive and what she has been doing. The path takes a very different direction and has him looking at his past in a totally different way.
This was a decent read, I wasn’t sure where this was going but you are given a full conclusion at the end, leaving no unanswered questions for me. The characters were varied and added to the storyline massively. The book flowed well and had a good pace and I enjoyed it.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

Always a fan of Harlan Coben, I was excited to get a copy of Nobody’s Fool and it doesn’t disappoint.
This is the second book in the Sami Kierce series, taking place a year after ‘Fool Me Once’, but it doesn’t matter if you’ve not read the first – I hadn’t.
Sami’s life has imploded, he lost his job as a Detective and now works as a private investigator for a law firm and a night-school teacher for true crime fanatics. A criminal imprisoned for the murder of Sami’s fiancée has been released following allegations of corruption against Sami, and now a face from the past appears at the back of his class. However, not just any face from the past, but his former-lover who he believed was dead.
Sami must track Anna down to finally put the ghosts to rest. But what will be revealed when he does?
Full of twists and turns, they all sounded believeable (unlike some thrillers). I loved it!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for giving me an advanced review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Another fantastic book by Harlan Coben. Every time a new book is released, I can't wait to get my hands on it and this one certainly didn't disappoint.

I really loved the main character Sami Kierce, he is unrelenting in his desire to find the truth behind the mystery that has haunted him for many years. He is a warm, relatable, family man with so much tenacity. He has a lovely family around him with his father, his wife Molly and his son Henry.

The plot is full of unexpected twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat and unable to put the book down, no matter how long ago you should have went to sleep!

As expected this is another captivating read by Harlan Coben.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for kindly allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is my very first Harlan Coben book and it has instantly made me a fan! I could not put this book down. Usually I am reading at least two books at a time but I didn't even want to pick anything else up until I finished this.

The characters are complex, have emotional depth and have detailed backstories that make you really invested in them. The plot hooks you in and keeps you desperate to find out what the truth is. Coben's writing is so detailed you feel like you are in the story.

I enjoyed that, although Sami isn't a cop anymore, there was still that element as that's who he is at his core. The insistence in finding out the truth. I would love to be in his class.

Even the side characters were so detailed you could easily picture them. I'd love more of Polly and Gary with their sleuthing skills.

The slow unraveling of the truth as Sami comes across it makes you feel like you can guess what the twists are, but as more secrets are revealed you realise that it might not be that simple.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good psychological mystery or crime thriller.

I will be going and reading his back catalogue of books now!

Thank you to Random House UK, Cornerstone and Century for this NetGalley Arc

Having read the previous book in this series, I couldn't really remember the character Sami from it, but I didn't need to know any back story as this book covers his early years. I liked the supporting characters and how he interacts with them

A great read from Harlan but, it did start off very slow and usually his books pack more if a punch from the first page. I did enjoy this one once I got into it. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Twenty two years ago, young Sami Kierce woke up in Spain next to the dead body of his girlfriend Anna, a knife in his hand. Although he fled home to America, it changed the trajectory of his life and he's never forgotten her.
Currently down on his luck, Sami is trying to make ends meet by working as a private investigator and teaching night classes of wanna be detectives. When someone comes looking for him who looks exactly like Anna, Sami won't rest until he uncovers the truth..

I really enjoyed this thriller, Harlan Coben is an absolute master at writing a story with multiple shocking twists that will surprise even an avid thriller reader!  This book is perfect for fans of Lee Child, Michael Connelly and Jeffrey Deaver.

This book is set a year after the events of Fool Me Once. To be fair although I still haven't read Fool Me Once I didn't feel it impacted at all on my ability to enjoy this novel - any necessary backstory is provided. Fantastic new supporting characters such as Golfer Gary and The Pink Panthers are introduced and I hope they feature in any further sequels!

Thank you to Netgalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for the review copy.

A bit of a slow burner which was a disappointment as this author usually delivers more of a thrill. Didn’t realise it was a sequel but that did not detract from the story. A good premise. Just an ok from me as it did not pack the punch I was expecting. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

This is apparently the sequel to Fool Me Once which was published way back in 2016. But tbh I wouldn't really worry too much if you haven't already read that book as this one re-introduces the main character and acts almost as good as it's own opener.
Although, that said, Fool Me Once is a cracking book so if you are inclined...
Anyway... in this book we catch up with Sami as he is working as a PI with a side line in teaching the art of sleuthing - criminality - to mature students at night school. On one of his teaching evenings he is shocked to see a face from his past at the back of the lecture hall. He's almost certain it's Anna. But she's dead? But once he makes that connection, and Anna realises it, she bolts. He follows. He catches up to her and manages to slip a tracker on her. Luckily, tracking was the theme of tonight's lecture! Long story short but Anna was a blast from his past. They met when he was backpacking through Spain post college before going off to study medicine. They had an intense relationship, cut short when he woke up covered in blood, with a knife in his hand and her body lying next to him...
So you can see why he would want to talk to her!
But she isn't Anna, she's actually a different woman, with a whole other intriguing and baffling past. Not that she can remember the most of it... Or is she... It's all a little confusing...
And that's all I'm saying as the rest of what follows needs to be revealed at exactly the right moments for maximum impact. Suffice to say that if you are familiar with this author, you will know what you are getting yourself into. Secrets, lies, dysfunctional behaviour. Twists, turns, red herrings, obfuscation, bait and switch. Jaw shocking reveals. Action packed chases. The whole shebang!
And, as always, he does this in a way that does not belittle or dupe the reader. Nothing comes out of left field, everything eventually makes sense. Yes a few things could be a wee tad over the top and sensational, but nothing I can't easily forgive. Culminating in a wholly satisfying conclusion.
And if all that wasn't enough, we also have his weird bunch of the best of the best amateur sidekicks to assist him. Some of the most brilliant characters, especially Gary the Golfer. And ever supportive wife Molly who goes above and beyond for him.
All in all, a cracking addition to an already well impressive back catalogue. Roll on next time. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Sami Kierce a disgraced former detective spots a face from his past while presenting a lecture on investigations to a diverse group of people. The mystery is that she seems to be a girl he woke next to covered in blood whilst he was holding a knife and assuming he’d murdered her in a drug fuelled rage tries to report the death to Spanish police before running back to the U S. This all happened years ago before his police career and losing his job he is now a private investigator. A second thread to the narrative concerns the release of a man convicted of murdering his fiancée due to questions about his time in the police. The girl he spotted at his lecture he follows to a country estate and. it seems she is an heiress missing presumed kidnapped some 11 years ago. She claims to remember nothing of this time and his subsequent investigation to find the truth is related in a twisting tale that never slows down. Always entertaining with some excellent humorous lines .

Before I launch into my review, I would like to say a huge thank you to Harlan Coben, Random House UK, Cornerstone, and Netgalley for the Advanced Digital Reader Copy of this title. For anyone with their eye on this title, here is my personal review of the book to help you decide whether you are interested or not. All opinions offered are my own.

I have said it many times before. I absolutely love Harlan Coben and think he is a modern talent. I started reading his books a couple of decades ago. Now, I am not one for reading him in order, nor have I read even half of his books, but…I have been binging the Netflix series and I think the novels I have read, then seen the adaptations for have been done really well. What grabbed me about this one was the fact that the blurb told me that it delved into Sami’s past. For those of you for whom this does not ring a bell, Sami Kierce is a police detective in Fool Me Once. Actor, Adeel Akhtar, brought Sami to life onscreen and gave an impressive performance of an officer plagued by an illness that saw his past brought to life. In Nobody’s Fool, a story that comes a year after Fool Me Once, Sami’s past takes center stage yet again.

Travelling back in time to his era as a graduate student waking up to find his dead girlfriend behind him and a knife in his hand, Sami is forced to reexamine what he thought he knew when the dead girlfriend becomes a face in the crowd. Is his tumor back? Is Sami seeing things that are not really there? After all, he has form. Or has this case remained unsolved all this time because there was nothing to solve in the first place? Can the master of twists and turns tell this story in the captivating way that we have come accustomed to? Keep reading, and I will let you know.

I make no secret of the fact that I absolutely love the riveting reads of Harlan Coben. Very few writers are able to spin a spot and leave you flipped back-to-front and upside down by the time you reach the end. This story was just that.

From previous encounters with Sami Kierce, we know as a detective that he was thorough; a dog with a bone. And despite being forced out of the force, he has refused to leave crime fighting behind him. Sami Kierce as a PI is an even bigger force to be reckoned with and I like him a little unhinged like this.

Coben writes about a remarkably diverse cast that are all well-rounded characters with backstories and purpose, even if they are only minor characters. There is a place for everyone and everyone has a place. I like that all the Ts are crossed, and the Is are dotted leaving no plot holes for the reader to wonder about or fill in. There were a few moments as we sped toward the end of the book where I wondered if the writer would let me down for the first time in two decades, but it turns out I was just impatient.

The pacing of the novel is quite fast and page-turning once it gets going, which is almost at the very start. We are treated to some key flashbacks to Sami’s youth, which provide an insight into who he is and the life choices he has made. I also liked that as well as his profession, other aspects of his life had drastically changed, i.e., his family situation. And as always, there was a fabulous twist awaiting the reader at the end.

Whilst this works as a standalone novel, with its own cut and shut plot, I appreciate the start of a new series. Coben left us with a clear sense that we had not heard the last of Kierce, so I am keen to see the arrival of the next book.

Suited to fans of writers such as Lee Child and Karin Slaughter, I highly recommend this book. It is a thrill and a half, an easy, fast paced read filled with rich characters, and a great mystery that will have all readers on the edge of their seat sifting through the action. The protagonist is a loveable underdog you want to root for and he genuinely cares about the cases he takes on. I love his passion to seek justice at any cost. This is a book people should be putting on pre-order before it flies off the shelves. It gets the full 5 out of 5 stars and not a single complaint.

As expected from the master of suspenseful page turners, this was a fast paced tale full of twists and turns, the first person writing style full of humour and wit. I loved every punchy minute. Sami Kierce, a former detective is a wonderful protagonist and I look forward hopefully to many future adventures alongside this flawed, fascinating character.

Before you pick up Nobody's Fool, cancel your plans!!! A brilliant page turner you will struggle to put down.

Recently graduated from college, Sami Kierce joins some friends backpacking around Europe. Whilst in Spain he meets Anna, and Sami decides to remain in Spain rather than continue travelling with his friends. From the start, the relationship between Sami and Anna is intense, fuelled with drugs and alcohol. Just a few days in, Sami wakes one morning covered in blood, a knife in his hand and Anna lying dead next to him. After a panicked phone call with his father, Sami flees back to the USA.
Fast forward twenty two years; Sami is married with a young son and working as a private investigator however remains haunted by what happened in Spain. Did he really kill Anna? To help support his family, Kierce teaches 'armchair detectives' how to solve crimes. One evening a stranger appears at the back of his class, a stunned Kierce recognizes her as Anna, however she immediately flees from the room. So follows a quest for the truth. A truth which may help Sami lay the ghosts of his past to rest, and release him from the tortuous guilt he continues to carry.

This is Harlan Coben at his very best! The author has created a marvellous character in Sami; I warmed to him immediately. Commited, doggedly determined, intuitive and absolutely 'Nobody's Fool'. His adoration for his wife Molly and young son Henry stand out, level headed Molly is the rock Sami has built his life around. Fascinating and action packed, the plot moves on at a perfect pace, allowing time for humour as well as all the surprises, twists, turns and revelations you expect from a Harlan Coben thriller. I am not a huge fan of thrillers set in the USA, however always make an exception for Harlan Coben and this book did not disappoint, I loved it!

This is book two in the Sami Kierce series. I missed the first (Fool Me Once) however Nobody's Fool can absolutely be read as a stand alone. Indeed I didn't even realise there had been a previous book until I came to write this review.

So many thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for my advanced reader copy in return for my honest and unbiased review.
