To Hell With It shares the story of Pearl who despite her OCD makes a solo trip to New Zealand. Although this starts off disappointingly, her friends Una and Niall encourage her to continue and she is able to express a new found courage. There’s a warmth between the characters and the way Claire Frances builds a sense of the world of the community in both Ireland and New Zealand is vivid and engaging.

Thank you netgalley for the chance to read this

I actually like some books that tackle OCD, even if I don't have it. Eleanor Olephant is one that comes to mind. I think this felt a little...flippant about how mental health is handled? It just didn't resonate. The humor seemed a bit misplaced with regards to tackling her mental health issues But for me, the tipping point came when a man/relationship is what made her 'suddenly able to be healed' and I really didn't enjoy that at all.

Although this story had an interesting premise and a unique voice, I couldn't get into it. The combination of the main character's depressing circumstances, her madcap little adventures, and the particular type of humor didn't work for me. Fans of Marian Keyes would likely enjoy this.

Im reviewing this a bit late but anyways thx to Netgalley and Harper collins for allowing me to read and review early. I really enjoyed this book and the story. I love a rom-com and this is one that i have very much enjoyed. the humour as well as the romance was so well written. Yes this may be a debut novel but it definitely does not feel that way with how good the writing is.

Oh wow, this is the comfortread the world needs!
I have to admit, I didn't immediately love this book, so I will say in advance: although I will strongly encourage people to read this book (probably for the rest of my life), it needs some getting used to.
This book is about Pearl, het OCD and her trying to learn to really *live* with it. One of my loved ones struggles with OCD, so I do know a thing or two about this matter, and to me, it is displayed realistically.
I am happy that Pearl's OCD is not her entire personality, she has a wonderful friend, Una, and a job (with a great colleague) she is happy with. This in itself is a great reason to pick this book up.

Pearl is a lovely character, she is honestly interested in other people (something characters from other books rarely are) and as a reader, you immediately understand why people like her instantly.

Her trip through New Zealand is fantastic, now I want to go there, too.
The people she meets there all add value to the story and Pearl's character development.

I laughed out loud multiple times, Tim made me tear up a little and Bunty is the friend we all need.

To put it more concisely: this is SUCH a heart-warming novel. Please do yourself a favour and pick it up.

Thank you Netgalley, for the e-arc. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this heartfelt, funny, and empowering debut about Pearl, a young woman navigating life with OCD. Told through a sharp and engaging first-person voice, the story offers real insight into the daily challenges Pearl faces—and her determination, growth, and moments of humor along the way. I especially appreciated that her progress is shown as ongoing and realistic, not tied up in a “cured” ending. With a strong supporting cast, a dash of romance, and an uplifting journey that takes her far from home, this is a story full of warmth, resilience, and human decency. A strong 4 stars for its honest portrayal of mental health, vibrant storytelling, and a main character you can’t help but root for. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

A unique heroine and subject matter that I really appreciated. Sometimes difficult for me to read as I have someone with OCD in my life, but I’m glad the author choosing to put it in the spotlight.

Thank you to Harper Collins for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

To Hell With It is a very enlightening book that highlights OCD and one's everyday struggles while dealing with OCD. Pearl has severe OCD and finds it difficult to navigate through her everyday life because of it. Although I feel like a lot of her actions and choices she made were a bit farfetched considering the only reason she made them were because of a hot guy she met, I do feel like this book is much needed. I loved how this book stresses the importance of having support and a community. By the end of the book, I was very proud of Pearl and thankful she had this community. This book is very informative, and I enjoyed watching Pearl make her journey to find a sense of normalcy.
Thank you NetGalley, HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, and Claire Frances for this enlightening read!

4.5 stars
To Hell With It captured me from the first page right until the end. It focusses on Pearl, a young woman with OCD, and her journey to accepting herself. I don't know much about OCD but felt like I got a real sense of what it's like and how exhausting it can be. I loved Pearl and her mannerisms, she just seemed like a sweet person, content with her life, but ready for more. Pearl had some great friends in her corner, which really added depth to the story. Part romance, part finding herself, overall it was just fun to read.

To Hell With It by Claire Francis, pearl O’Reilly is 28 lives in a small village in Ireland and severely suffers from OCD. She works at the local shop has a best friend named Una and has her rituals down to a precise science or as much as you can when having OCD. When a traveler breaks down in the little town pearl is shocked because not only is he the most handsome guy she’s ever seen but he seems to also be attracted to her as well. so everyone is shocked when he leaves to go back to New Zealand in a few weeks later pearl decides to go there and visit him. she travels all the way to Tapuke, New Zealand, and despite the mini setbacks along the way it doesn’t turn out how she fantasizes it to be. Although it does turn out to be the best thing she could’ve done. let me start the opinion section of this review by saying Miss Francis has done a brilliant job honestly portraying a severely debilitating disorder. I thought she did it with the utmost respect honesty and lots of lol moments. I absolutely loved pearls response with Ginger the cat and the pearl necklace but that is just one instance where I laughed out loud while reading this book. I did not like the potty humor there were many times throughout the book were talk of body functions made me cringe and I get that some of it was relative to the book but asking Niles about what he did while closing her window and other times I thought it was too much and over the top but having said that I still totally loved this book it is a happy feel good read I loved how nice and kind Niles was to pearl I thought her and Una’s friendship was a great one there’s just a lot to Love about this book and it’s way more than the remarks about bathroom activity I mentioned above. if not for so much bathroom talk I would’ve definitely given this five stars but if you don’t mind that then for you it will absolutely be a five star read. #NetGalley,#HarperCollinsUK, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview, #ClaireFrancis, #ToHellWithIt,

I absolutely loved being on Pearl's journey with her. She was such a gorgeous person and I felt every step of the way as she grew into a new person. Loved all the characters and their relationships.

I can't find my notes for this read. So I guess we'll just be going with vibes.

The voice in this is very unique, I found it quite jarring at first, but it communicated her thoughts and issues so well, and I ended up really enjoying the book.
I can only understand a fraction of what she goes though every day, as I'm autistic and don't have OCD, but I thought it was brilliantly done.

Since I've been basically only reading romances for almost a year now, it was quite unexpectedly refreshing to have a book focus almost solely on the MC and her development. Though there is a smidgen of romance at the end.

Also, I love New Zealand and was so happy it was featured as the secondary setting for this story. and how can you not adore Bunny, she was the real MVP.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It has fun parts, sad parts and parts where you are both cheering for Pearl and also feeling her disparity at the routines she has to go through to be able to leave the house or live her life. You are cheering for her by the end! Go Pearl!

To Hell With It follows Pearl O’Reilly, a salmon pink–loving, routine-following 27-year-old navigating life with OCD in her own unique way. When a surprise (and very naked) guest shakes up her carefully ordered world, Pearl decides it’s time to break a few rules. Set against the charming backdrop of New Zealand, this story is full of relatable characters, laugh-out-loud moments, and a refreshingly honest look at mental health. An easy, feel-good read that’s both entertaining and insightful—I’ll definitely be watching for this author’s next book!

4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

To Hell With It by Claire Frances is a fierce and funny debut that grabs you from the first chapter and refuses to play by the rules. With sharp wit and a no-nonsense voice, Frances delivers a story that feels like a rebellious toast to every woman who’s ever been told to “tone it down.”

At its core, this novel is about liberation—breaking free from toxic relationships, outdated expectations, and self-imposed limits. The protagonist is unapologetically flawed, which makes her journey toward self-acceptance all the more satisfying. Claire Frances isn’t afraid to get raw or irreverent, and that’s where the book shines: it dares to be messy in a way that feels honest.

The writing is punchy and fast-paced, with lol moments and lines that beg to be underlined. There’s a lot of heart beneath the snark, too, and moments of vulnerability that catch you off guard in the best way.

If there’s one reason it didn’t get the full five stars, it’s that some supporting characters felt a little one-note, and a few plot threads wrapped up a bit too neatly. But those are minor quibbles in a book that’s ultimately empowering, entertaining, and totally unfiltered.

To Hell With It is an aptly named story featuring a likeable protagonist, Pearl, who lives with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Pearl's life is full of things she must do and coping mechanisms that she must follow to lessen the impact of the OCD on her life. Sometimes, these also become problematic, but despite all of this, she is a survivor who accepts her life whilst wanting more. I like that the reader discovers a supportive network of family, friends and acquaintances within her community that tries to make her life less exhausting. The story explores what Pearl does when she has an unexpected opportunity to choose an undesignated path and whether she can take this or not. It's an emotional story that has moments of humour to balance the more challenging aspects. It gives a believable insight into what it's like to live with OCD, and I found this exhausting to read at times because I invested in Pearl and empathised with her life struggles. I enjoyed this story because it is ultimately hopeful.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

I enjoyed this book, was an easy read and well written! The characters all had good development and felt relatable. Well paced story line and I enjoyed the New Zealand scenes. It really showed how someone with OCD lives their daily life and how it’s not just about being hygienic or using hand sanitiser. The author did a great job in highlighting that subject! This is the authors debut title and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for her next book.

Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for this ARC.

This was an interesting book to read. It feels like it breaks the 4th wall a little by having little notes to us as the reader in brackets but sometimes it’s really cute. We meet pearl, a girl with OCD who ends up meeting a cute guy from New Zealand. After he flys back, she decides to go out there and surprise him only to find out a big secret of him. Anyways, somehow after flying out and staying for a bit anyway she starts conquering her OCD and it gets put on the minor storyline (it feels like that anyway) but then she gets back home and more secrets are revealed. Her best friend Una is a vibe and I love her even though it does feel like she is a bit pushy (but I think that was for the best). The story was good and the book well written and there are some fabulous fun bits which I loved reading!

Review: From the start of this book I have had such an beautiful experience. The storyline and characters were highly relatable. You don’t actually realise how significantly OCD can affect someone and their daily life until you read about it. Although this was a novel, there were significant truths that were highlighted throughout!

I absolutely love how Pearl grew within herself with the help of Una and Niall. If it was not for them as her two pillars, Pearl would still be struggling. Una provided her with tough love and support, and Niall provided the comfort for which she was seeking.

I thoroughly enjoyed this entire book from start to finish! Thank you so much once again!
