The Anima Corps is N.P. Conti's wildly impressive debut novel, packed to the brim with action adventure, slooowww burn romance, lush world-building, fated mates, shifters, found family, and a truly BADASS FMC.
Also... a morally grey FMC β which I LOVED.
Right off the bat, this story felt very WITCHER. These characters are epic demon-slaying masters of their craft and Conti brings the creatures they fight to life very vividly. All of the action scenes are cinematic, fun, gripping, and easy to stay engaged with.
Probably what I loved most, though, was the expansive cast of characters. This is one of those ensemble casts where everyone is fused together by that military found family vibe. Everyone matters, everyone is very well-drawn, everyone has impactful moments together and impactful moments with the mains (as opposed to the mains only having those moments with each other).
BUT THE MAINS.
Ryder Everett (MMC) is a whole vibe, all on his own, and then paired later with the totally feral Aspen (FMC) = explosive chemistry. Keep in mind, this is basically a 'no spice' novel and you honestly don't miss it! Their relationship to one another is fueled so much by who they are, their histories, their damage, their trauma... so when they do come together, the smallest of touches feels huge.
Loved this book. Loved these characters. Can't wait for the next book. And I do believe this will be a series, because cliffhanger!
Thank you to N.P. Conti for the gifted copy in exchange for my honest review. π
And happy release day!

Honestly the best book Iβve read all year!
I loved the characters in this book they felt like family. Aspen & Ryder seriously loved them. I was addicted from the first page and cannot wait for more.
This author is gonna become a household name.
Brilliant 5 stars!

Alright, I started this book all the way in January, but after that I got distracted with other reading material. Meaning that I had forgotten the story and was able to read something else instead. That doesn't say that this story was bad, but it didn't pull me in completely. Which can mean that this story wasn't for me.
The story, after I picked it up, had a good passing. And the foreshadowing is there, but it isn't in my opinion not subtle.
Still, I will recommend this book to people who love this type of story.
