A dun little read about a little girl doing some misbehaving. It's all a part of learning and growing. Cute illustrations!

The story itself is kind of okay, "Unruly Julie" only sort of learns a lesson in this. The way the font is layered on top of itself, makes some parts of the book harder to read and some have enough contrast that it doesn't really matter, but some are actually hard to read. Overall, it was just okay.

Nice to look at and very nice to read, this signals a fine series of daft rhymed books. Here, we get couplet after couplet portraying how nasty and cruel and prank-filled this little madam called Julie is – until things get revamped for the end. There is not enough text to worry about the rhymes and meter being lost – there is not that much scope for errors to creep in. It's on the flippant, silly side of things, and not the worse for it – I found it enjoyable, and the young target readers certainly should, too. A strong four stars.

Unruly Julie is a cheeky girl who gets herself into quite a lot of troubling situations. The text is simple and the consistent rhyming makes it super fun for young readers. I can see where some parents may pass on this book as they may feel like it could give their children a bad example or ideas. I see it as an opportunity to open a discussion about choices and behavior and the fact that Julie chose to clean up her act, with the clever twist of a name change to keep up with the rhyming.
As an American it was fun to adjust my pronunciations to keep the rhymes correct, as well as explain the words cheeky, strop, mummy, stoat and telly to my daughter who read this book with me. She just turned 7 and while I'd generally recommend this book to kids 5 and under, she did enjoy it and laughed along with me at Julie's antics.
Thank you to NetGalley and Troubador Publishing Ltd. for the ARC of Unruly Julie.

I don't understand this book at all. The kid is a total brat and gets in all kinds of trouble. Then, she suddenly decides to behave herself and changes her name? Maybe it's just supposed to be cute and funny but it didn't make any sense to me. Are we encouraging kids to be ''naughty'' until they reach a certain age milestone? And why does she have to change her name so she can be ''good?"" Because it doesn't rhyme? Nope...I read a lot of kids books and this wasn't just didn't hit for me.

Unruly Julie is a rhyming picture book for younger children. I think preschool to age 5 would enjoy this and be able to join in with recounting the antics of the main character and the simplicity of the illustrations. It will be no surprise that Julie’s behaviour is unruly - as in she puts something smelly behind the telly and a stoat in granny’s coat. Simple and fun - I think children will ask for this one lots of times and enjoy it.

Unruly Julie by Alan Moss is a children's picture book with an expected publication date of January 28, 2025. This rhyming kids book is about a girl named Julie who gets herself into trouble by being mischievous before finally realizing she wants to behave like a proper little girl.
I'd like to thank NetGalley and Troubador Publishing Ltd. for providing me with an Advanced Readers Copy (ARC) of Unruly Julie for free in exchange for my honest review. I found the title and cover of the book to be quite catchy and wanted to see what it was all about, and it didn't disappoint.

The content of the story was quite catchy and memorable, and the illustrations were quite fun. The lesson was a passive lesson that I hope children will pick up on as it's an important one. It's just an all around fun book that's appropriate for children between the ages of three and five.

Five out of five stars is what I give Unruly Julie by Alan Moss. This is a first in a series that kids and adults can enjoy together. I hope that the rest of the books in the series are as cute and fun as this one.
