I always loved how Helena Dixon pays homage to Golden Age mysteries and plays with the tropes using them to deliver compelling and entertaining historical cozy mysteries
Kitty and Matt are sort of friend I'm always happy to meet and catch up with them. Bertie is as cute as always.
There's a dark undercurrent in this mystery, there's betrayal, dysfunctional family relationships, and strong emotions. Golden Age mysteries are often quite dark and full of psychological insight into the mind and the actions of the characters
Ms Dixon plays with the different tones and the story never drags or bores.
There's a subplot that is quite intriguing and I can't wait to read the next story.
Read it and have fun, it's highly recommended

Murder on the Cornish Coast is book 19 in the Miss Underhay series but like most cozy mysteries, you don't have to read all the previous books to enjoy this one. Actually, this might be a good one to start with as a new overarching mystery is started in this book and will probably last for several more.

As Matt and Kitty travel to help Lady Cordelia solve the murder of her father, we don't see man of the regular characters in the series. Kitty's grandmother and Mrs. Craven have a short scene in the beginning and Inspector Lewis is seconded to the police department near St Mawes to assist with the murder investigation. So again, this would be a great book to start with if you haven't picked up this series before as the cast is pretty small.

It seems that Matt and Kitty are more observers in this mystery rather than sleuths as they are hoping Lady Cordelia recovers her memories. They do try to piece together the the events of that night from what she does remember along with the recollections of the other members of the party. Because Kitty and Matt aren't running around looking for clues, we get more time with them just being together which is nice.

It also gives Matt time to look into a person from his past. At the very end of the last book, Murder in New York, Matt catches a glimpse of a person he thought died during the war. He attended the man's funeral but Matt can't shake the feeling that this person is really him. We get a few clues about what happened the night the man supposedly died at the convalescence hospital but this is being set up to follow through at least a few books. Early in this series, we had the mystery of Kitty's mother's murder which last for several books but it has been a while since they've taken up a case that wasn't solved in the pages of the current book. I'm looking forward to this new mystery.

If you are looking for a fun, easy read then this is a great book to pick up.

Book 19 in the Kitty Underhay series and it feels as fresh and fun a read as the earlier instalments in the series. This time around Kitty and Matt are quietly investigating the potential attempted murder of Lady Cordelia Hedges who was previously attacked along with her father and left with amnesia whilst her father was killed.

Secrets, red herrings and murderous events abound as Kitty and Matt do what they do best and drive down their leads to come to a satisfying and surprising conclusion. Matt's side quest into solving the mystery of Redvers reappearance is also an interesting diversion and I'm looking forward to that reaching its conclusion in the next book or two

What makes this series such a comfort read for me is that I love the core cast of characters and there's usually one or two new additions who leave an impression, this time young Archie is the hero of the day and a character I hope makes a return somehow in the future. The stories and cases are always intriguing and fun and the familiarity of it all makes it a truly cosy and satisfying read for me.

As always a winner and I'm looking forward to Book 20!

I love this series, so I was delighted to read this new adventure. Very clever plot that kept me guessing the whole time. I didn't expect the ending. This may be my favourite adventure from this series so far!

Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys a good cosy mystery.

Moving from the Devon coast to the Cornish one for the nineteenth outing for Kitty Underhay.

When Lady Cordelia Hedges finds herself attacked on the same day her father is found floating in the harbour, she is convinced that there is something afoot and it is up to Kitty and Matt to get to the bottom of it.

A return to the very place it happened with Kitty and Matt in tow, seems the perfect way to get to the truth. But when a mysterious stranger is said to appear in Cordelia's bedroom, a blood soaked knife behind a curtain and some poisoned chocolates, it seems that not everything is as it seems.

Another historical cosy mystery that needs solving and the perfect escapism with familiar characters.

A Helena Dixon mystery is guaranteed to be a fabulous read, and the 19th book featuring Kitty Underhay (now Bryant) is no exception. In fact, the series is going from strength to strength.

Left for dead after the murder of her father, Lady Cordelia Hedges hires Kitty and Matt to investigate. The brutal attack left her with severe memory loss, but as the memories return, so does the danger.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, as we're left wondering how reliable Cordelia's memory is, and we're often wrong footed. The people closest to her are sceptical of her claims that her life is in danger, but is their scepticism a ploy to hide their own secrets? In a Cornish manor surrounded by people who may have ulterior motives to keep Cordelia's memories buried, Kitty and Matt have a tricky case on their hands.

Aside from the main case of the novel, Matt continues to be haunted by the ghost from his past that appeared at the end of the last novel, and the mystery deepens as more information comes to light, and we learn more about the horrors faced in the aftermath of the Great War.

An expertly crafted mystery that I just had to read in one sitting, and the series continues to be one of my must-reads.

The Miss Underhay Mysteries by Helena Dixon are some of my all time favourite cosy crimes. So when a chance to review Murder on the Cornish Coast came up, I jumped on it.

This is the 19th book in the series, and this time Kitty and Matt (and Bertie, of course) are off to Cornwall to help Lady Cordelia Hedges try and work out both what happened when her father was murdered a few months earlier, and who is trying to kill her now. They are also investigating a mysterious reappearance from Matt’s past.

I very much enjoyed visiting the Cornish coast, and Highcliffe Hall. A real sense of the village right on the shore came through, as well as the large house just outside it.

There were an interesting collection of characters staying at Highcliffe Hall, any one of whom could be the murderer. It was great fun trying to work out who the culprit was, alongside Kitty and Matt.

Overall, this was another fascinating mystery with favourite characters.

I was given a copy of this book, my opinions are my own.

Book 19 in the series! A bright blue sky, a glamorous boating party, an English manor house on the Cornish cliffs… and surely not another murder! Get Kitty Underhay on the case!. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher for the copy. What a gorgeous book! The author has a great gift for characterisation - nuanced, interesting, believable people.

I’ve been spending a couple of days with Kitty and Matt at an estate on the Cornish coast. They were invited by Lady Cordelia when she hired them to find out who was trying to kill her. Last summer after a birthday party for her sister, Rachel, Lady Cordelia was attacked and her father was killed. No perpetrator was found yet Lady Cordelia claims that several attempts have been made on her life now that she’s starting to remember what happened on that fateful night.

Well the other guests greet the arrival of Matt and Kitty as the locked room mystery deepens. It’s clear that someone in the big old house has murder on the mind. The red herrings are plenty and the suspects twist and turn with the events. A breakthrough occurs when a noted therapist arrives to help Lady Cordelia by hypnotizing her.

This was quite enjoyable and I had fun seeing my suspicions play out as I helped Matt and Kitty solve their case. I think most fans will appreciate the unexpected. I’ve read all previous books in this series and it’s always great that the stories stay fresh. Definitely recommend any new reader start with the first installment and read all of the books in order for maximum pleasure.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this e-book ARC to read, review, and recommend to anyone who enjoys historical cozy mysteries. The period details are spot on and the descriptions take me back to another place and time.

Books 19 finds Matt and Kitty travelling to Cornwall to investigate a previous murder and the attack of Lady Cordelia who is still suffering from amnesia.

Who doesn't want Lady Cordelia to remember what happened that night? Her jealous step-sister, the family doctor or even her fiancés. Who stands to benefit from her death?

A book not to miss in this wonderful, fun and witty series!!

Kitty has been asked to investigate some fishy goings-on in the beautiful coastal village of St Mawes. The body of Lady Cordelia Hedges’ beloved father was found floating in the sea, and shortly afterwards Cordelia herself was almost killed. Determined to piece together the puzzle, Kitty & Matt travel to Cornwall. Later that evening, a scream wakes Kitty in the middle of the night: Lady Cordelia is sitting bolt upright in bed, swearing someone has been in her room. As Bertie the dog retrieves a knife from behind the curtain, Kitty’s list of suspects grows. Then a house guest eats a poisoned chocolate from a box addressed to Cordelia and dies. Matt is also investigating a more personal case
The nineteenth book in the series & it’s still as fresh as the first. I love both Matt & Kitty & love how both their personal & business relationships have blossomed throughout the series. Another intriguing case, there were twists, turns & red herrings, whilst I whittled it down to two of the house guests I couldn’t work out which one it was or the reasons why. Then there was Matt’s case, he made some progress but there’s still plenty to find out especially as it happened so long ago. I love this series & was engrossed in the book & read it in two sittings
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own

It was 1937 in Cornwall when Kitty was visited by Lady Cordelia Hedges who had been seriously injured a few months prior, at the same time her father had been murdered. Now she was sure someone was trying to kill her. Her memory of the time was broken; her psychologist was trying to help Cordelia regain her memories so perhaps they could discover who the killer was. Cordelia invited Kitty and Matt to the small village of St Mawes, where it all took place; her idea was being in the familiar area might jog those memories free.

As Kitty and Matt mingled with the other guests, who were also at the event where Sir Victor was killed, they could feel the tension in the air. Everyone knew what the aim was, but no one seemed comfortable with it. Would they find the killer before it was too late?

Murder on the Cornish Coast is the 19th in the Miss Underhay series by Helena Dixon and it was brilliant! The twist at the end was not something I saw coming! Kitty, Matt and their bulldog, Bertie, are very familiar characters; it's like catching up with old friends each episode. I'm loving the series, and long may it continue! Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for my digital ARC to read and review.

An unsolved murder, a daughter left battered with little recall of the events and a man who should be dead, but it would seem may not be, sees Kitty Bryant and her husband Matt become deeply involved in a situation that just seems to get more complicated by the hour, in Murder on the Cornish Coast, another complex murder from Helena Dixon.
Following on from Matt and Kitty’s return to England from New York, Matt decides he needs to further investigate the death of his Army friend Redvers Palmerston, a man whose funeral he had attended. He is positive he saw him in the waiting crowd when their ship docked.
Meanwhile Kitty has a visit from a distressed young lady, Lady Cordelia Hedges, who is convinced someone is trying to kill her. Her father, Sir Victor Hugo had been murdered at St Mawes and she had also been viciously attacked on the same night. No one has been arrested for either incident.
She is looking for answers and invites Matt and Kitty to a weekend event at Highcliffe Hall to mark her return to the place where she was attacked. Her therapist thinks it could help her unlock memories of the terrible events that occurred there.
But all is far from what it seems at Highcliffe Hall, with secrets apparently being kept, personalities clashing and a string of events occurring that make absolutely no sense at all.
Kitty and Matt find they have no easy answers. Kitty eventually decides perhaps the downstairs staff are able to share some information that may help, as servants know almost everything that goes on, even behind closed doors!
Matt considers this a somewhat drastic step, but knows once Kitty is determined to follow instinct, it is best to let her get on with the task. When another murder occurs, Kitty begins to think that perhaps there may be a clue in what has tragically occurred.
Murder on the Cornish Coast book 19 in the Miss Underhay Mystery series is an intriguing and intricate murder mystery that keeps the killer well-hidden and will keep you guessing who did it, until the final tragic reveal.

The nineteenth book in the Miss Underhay Mystery series and I have read them all. I am now firm friends with Matt and Kitty and look forward to all the cases they work on together as Private Investigators

It is Cornwall in 1937 and Kitty Underhay is visiting St. Mawes with her husband Matt. They have been hired to help Lady Cordelia Hedges whose father has been murdered and who now believes she is the next target. Things become very strange and extremely confusing before they are able to solve the mystery. I found that I had very good idea about who it was but had no idea why.

Another beautiful cover wrapped around an excellent mystery in this great series. Keep them coming!

Thanks to Bookouture and Net Galley for this ARC. Great series and still going strong after nearly 20 installments. In this one we have the start of a new story arc, which i'm really looking forward to. It was great to be in a different setting but i much prefer them back on home territory with all the old characters. Good plot and a great twist at the end.

I had never read any of the Miss Underhay mysteries before seeing Murder on the Cornish Coast, and am glad I picked the book up despite the fact it's in the middle of a series. I read quite a few mystery series set in England during the Interwar period and sometimes feel like I am reading the same book over and over - not the case with Murder on the Cornish Coast! This was a rare case where the murderer truly surprised me. I am so looking forward to going back and reading the first eighteen novels in this series, and will certainly read the twentieth whenever it comes out too.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing an advanced reader's copy.

Every time I see a new Miss Underhay, I have another book for my reading list.

Dixon is a delightful storyteller, and this time it felt like she upped her game again. There was just something so incredibly real about everything from the dialogue to her descriptions that made these characters really jump off the page-- even more than usual. I would like to see how she outdoes this one!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an advanced reading copy. Highly recommend.

I love this series, and this last book was an awesome addition. Matt and Kitty are tasked with finding who is responsible for the death of a woman's beloved father and the attempted death of her. While investigating, the pair find few clues, some suspects, and a few motives, but nothing seems to add up. What they discover shocked them all!
I truly enjoy the characters and all the different scenerios the author creates. Already set up for their next mystery; I can't wait!
