Kingdom of the Two Moons is a gripping romantasy filled with dark magic, intrigue, and morally complex characters. Thomashoff weaves an immersive tale of fate and power, which kept me hooked with rich world-building and unexpected twists. I was completely drawn in and found myself lost in the story - it’s a must-read for fantasy lovers!

Thank you so much to Last Unicorn Press for providing me with the ARC of this book.

I will read anything with hot men and dragons so best believe that I was sat all day reading this book on my Kindle and audibly screamed when I got the email stating I received a copy of this book. If I could compare this book to food it would be a hot bowl of tteokbokki because boy was it SPICY. The spice was tasteful and the plot was plotted the characters were angsty but not in an annoying way. I could feel the passion radiating off of them. I had to update my top book boyfriends list after reading this book because Caryan was everything I could ever want. I really don't know what kind of crack Thomashoff put in this book but I NEED MORE. This gave me the fix I needed after reading Fourth Wing and if you love that series you will devour this book as well!!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a free ebook copy in exchange for an honest review. This book will be released March 31, 2025.

Ooo what a thrilling romantasy/epic fantasy debut book! I enjoyed the world, but I will say the world building was a struggle for me at first because it was a little slow. That’s the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars. The beginning of the book as a whole was a little slow going to be honest, but baby once it got going (about 15% through) it got going and I flew through it.

If you like romantasy books (Sarah J Maas books & the like) I think you’ll LOVE this one as well! I like Melody (even though she does seem to cry a lot) and I loooove Riven and especially Caryan. I’m obsessed with the love triangle, the steaminess, the high fantasy aspects, and all the different kinds of characters. It’s all very detailed and there is a lot going on in this world and there are a lot of different things to add to this genre! Very unique and intricate and I really enjoyed it.

I can’t believe this is the author’s debut book and I absolutely can’t wait for the next one!

This one was a DNF for me. Sorry. I was not easy to get into it. The overall sotryline and the way it is written and just the plot in itself. IDK what it was.

This is my review on Goodreads.

Thank you NetGalley for advanced eARC of this book.
Rating 2.5 stars ⭐️⭐️💫
Synopsis: "Kingdom of the Two Moons" tells the tale of Melody, a young woman trapped in servitude due to her extraordinary magical abilities. After managing to escape, she is soon recaptured by a fae warrior and taken to the Court of the Two Moons, ruled by the Dark Lord Caryan. There, she finds herself caught in a dangerous web of love and betrayal, compelled to confront her emerging powers while unraveling a prophecy that could bring ruin to the world.
Review: I was initially eager to explore this story after reading the synopsis. However, after finishing the first 20%, I found myself somewhat let down. While the world and its creatures are undeniably enchanting and held my interest, the writing tends to be quite simplistic, relying more on telling than showing. Character development feels somewhat clichéd, echoing typical archetypes found in the fantasy genre. Although the authors note that this is a work in progress currently undergoing proofreading, it reads more like a rough draft that needs further refinement. Additionally, the choice to employ three different perspectives in varying tenses disrupts the narrative's flow.
In summary, it’s clear that the author has a strong familiarity with fantasy literature, possibly drawing inspiration a bit too liberally from it.
Thank you once again to NetGalley for the eARC, and I am eager to see how the final version of this book evolves.

Okay so yes, it was an amazing book and I was loving all of it. The ending was especially amazing to me and I love the direction it went, I’m not used to reading Fae books where Sex and lust is so openly shown and it makes it feel casual, while I’m aware that it is a common fae thing but it did make me a little bit uncomfortable. However it was effective. Melody was such a strong MC who still showed weakness but had her strength and I found myself rooting for her very easily.

I want to state upfront that I did DNF this book at 25% after realizing that it just was not for me.

What I Liked
The world seems rich and interesting. There was a lot of thought and effort and love put into the world-building and it shows. It’s detailed and intricate and quite fascinating to be honest. I enjoyed the idea behind this book; from what I read the plot shows a lot of potential, and I enjoyed the variety of characters- having a large cast in a story is always a good thing for me as I find it adds complexity to the narrative.

What I Didn’t Like
The writing. I know the front page says that it is still being proof-read, but this was bigger than proof-reading. There were severe grammatical mistakes and the number of incomplete sentences I read boggles the mind. Based on how frequent they were I can only guess it’s a stylistic choice by the author, but I was not a fan, especially when I felt the need to re-read sentence multiple times to make sure I was reading it right. The words did not flow seamlessly and they jarred me from any sort of immersion (of which there was none).
In addition to this I felt like I was constantly being told how the characters were feeling instead of being shown, even in the first person point of view of Melody. There was no immersion for me. I never felt connected to the characters and I never felt any sense of urgency, even when they were being chased or abused. I felt completely disconnected from them.
The angst particularly of Blair was unbelievable to me and I almost DNF’d at 3% because she was such an unlikeable and unrelatable character.

I do believe this story has potential, and I think general Romantasy fans, but particularly ones who enjoyed When the Moon Hatched might love it, if they can look past the writing style.

Kingdom of the Two Moons follows Melody as she is taken from the human world to the fae world and learns of her Fae heritage. As a half-human half-elf rare hybrid she has the special ability to sense where high concentrations of power are. This gift is needed by Caryan, High King of the Two Moons kingdom as he looks for three relics containing great power he needs in an ongoing war.
Fair warning that the rest of this review may contain spoilers for the story.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I think the plot of this book is interesting and the world that was described and started to be built was interesting. It’s just that this book is SO LONG. It is over 690 pages and at the start it is incredibly slow. It starts to pick up about 300 pages in but then it feels like it starts and stops. For a few chapter lots of interesting things happen and then it slows down a lot and then we are back to really interesting things. I’m sure the start was slow because of the world building, but if that is the case then I really do not have a good grasp on how things like the magic system works for having had 300 pages of just world building.
As far as the characters go, I loved them. Caryan is just someone you love to hate with how he treats Melody and the others in this book. Your heart just melts for Riven at times and you fell so bad for him at times. Melody is a young woman who has been raised by a monster and then sold to another monster. She is trying to keep it together as she navigates this whole new world she nothing about growing up. I do think she has a lot of development to go through to become a great character. Now for Blair I will be honest I don’t entirely see how she is going to play into this story in the long run. As of now she is mostly just used to give the backstory as to how this world got to point it did and how Caryan became who he is. Other than that I’m not sure what the point is of her. I mean we went I believe almost 200 pages without a single word of her.
I will say it seems that Caryan and Riven do infantilize Melody quite a bit in the story. And I am not a huge fan personally, but I do understand why to an extent.
I look forward to seeing what happens to these characters and their story lines.

I really enjoyed Kingdom of the Two Moons. The characters have a richness and depth to them that I don't always find and I absolutely loved this fantasy world. I can't wait to read more from Thomashoff.

Wow! Seriously thankful to the publisher and Netgalley for the e-arc!

This one took me a few chapters to be immersed into the world but boy do I think it was worth it. I loved the political aspects just as much as the yearning and fantasy elements. And Melody was someone I felt so deeply for. I highly anticipate this book to be a popular one.

I think if you liked Blood of Hercules, you might like this book. Unfortunately, neither book worked for me.

The internal dialogue of the main characters (Blood of Hercules and this book) was very similar. I read Melody's chapters and so much of the chapter was the same kind of internal conversation as Alexis in Blood of Hercules. If that book worked for you, definitely check this one out!

I was utterly captivated by this book! While the beginning unfolded at a leisurely pace, it perfectly set the stage for an exhilarating climax that left me breathless. I have an undeniable passion for narratives that weave together multiple perspectives, and this story delivered beautifully. The world-building was nothing short of extraordinary, immersing me in a rich tapestry of detail that ignited my imagination. The flashback chapters focusing on Blair were a brilliant touch, allowing me to peel back the layers of her character in a profoundly meaningful way. Now, I find myself eagerly anticipating the revelations awaiting Caryan and Riven in the next installment! As soon as the second book is released, I’ll be diving right back into this enchanting universe—bring it on!

Thank you to NetGalley and Alexandra Thomashoff for the opportunity to read an early copy of this book.

I really appreciated the chance to give this story a fair shot—twice, actually—but unfortunately, it just didn’t work for me. It was a DNF for me.I want to emphasize that this is entirely a matter of personal preference rather than the quality of the book itself.

The pacing was solid, and I could see the potential for the characters to grow and develop. The plot itself was promising, and I’m sure many readers will enjoy the premise. However, I’ve realized that any element of the human world tends to pull me out of the story. From the very beginning, the setting just didn’t set the right mood for me.

That being said, I would still recommend this book. While it wasn’t a match for me, I can see how it could resonate with others.

thanks for my first arc! sadly, i don’t enjoy fantasy books with a modern element to them, so this one didn’t click for me. if i had known there were real-world elements i definitely wouldn’t have chosen this novel. i prefer my fantasy outrageous and smutty and without the occurrence of cars and cellphones. for those that enjoy real world elements, like readers of the crescent city series, im sure this would be a good read!

This books had great world building, with an engaging storyline, however I found some things hard to understand at times. A lot of thought went into the book, and the overall magic system of the world, but it isn’t really my cup of tea. However, those who enjoy love triangles will probably enjoy it more!

This was a beautifully written fantasy, I loved the visuals and the characters so much. Thank you Alexandra and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ahead of it's release! There were many times where the information overload felt a little overwhelming but if you push through it'll come together. There was an abundance of magic and magically creatures, you'll swoon and cringe and feel all the feels. Overall, I enjoyed it and look forward to what the next in the series will hold.

want to thank NetGalley for giving me this opportunity to review this book.

This book is one of those times where I did not want it to end! Blair and Melody are both strong women, fighting against each other. Melody and Caryan are bound together. But Blair and Caryan know each other from their past. So much hurt and betrayal between the two. Riven Caryan’s right hand man loyal to Caryan but finding his feelings for Melody hard to be as loyal as he should be. I absolutely loved the story, thought the characters were well rounded and could not get enough. I can’t wait for book two to see what will happen next. It’s not often you find a book you cannot put down but this one did it for me

A unique story with amazing characters, I really enjoyed reading this book. It's nice to read a book that stands on its own in the overflow of romantasy (I'm here for it, but some stories are getting to be so similar it's getting to be repetitive). I also really like that the author went heavy on the fantasy side, which was obvious from the get-go with the glossary and intro. I'm a Tolkien girl, so I've loved all things fantasy since the 6th grade. This book made me happy, and I recommend to all the fantasy/romantasy girlies out there.

Alexandra Thomashoff's debut novel, Kingdom of Two Moons, is an enchanting entry into the realm of fantasy literature. The story centers around a strong female main character (FMC) and a morally complex male character, with a captivating love triangle that brims with tension, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.

Thomashoff's innovative approach to a magic system adds a refreshing twist to the genre. The world-building is meticulously detailed, enhanced by an extensive glossary, making this book an intermediate-level fantasy read. Despite being her first novel, Thomashoff's writing is polished and sophisticated, suggesting a seasoned hand rather than a newcomer.

Pros:
Intricate and imaginative world-building
Engaging and morally grey characters
Unique magic system
Well-crafted writing style

Cons:
May require a bit of patience due to its depth and complexity

Overall, Kingdom of Two Moons is a must-read for fantasy enthusiasts looking for something both familiar and refreshingly new. Thomashoff is an author to watch, and this debut sets a high bar for her future works.

I found this book hard to understand; the paragraph and sentence structures are odd and very short, and the POVs switch from first person to third person. The characters are well-developed but can be annoying sometimes, but the plot makes up for it. It's a good romantasy book, it has a great storyline, but I would steer clear if you don't like love triangles.
