It took a while but I got through this boxset by Robin Mahle. 5 books, all can be read stand alone for which I was glad as I took breaks between each novel. Great stories and police procedurals. Set in Bangor where Rebecca Ellis is a detective and her team, Bryce, Connor,Euan and Louise, work as a team to solve crimes. As a team they really pull together an look out for each other when they have personal problems. Rebecca had help too from her retired Dad, Hank who was also a police detective. A good read and recommended.

This box set takes us thru the adventures of police detective Rebecca Ellis. The daughter of a decorated officer we follow her along thru her relationship with her father, her coworkers and her new partner who has his own baggage. Taking place in Maine, the cases and relationships keep you hooked . Hoping for more of this series

Rebecca Ellis is now my favourite detective. I throughly enjoyed all 5 of these books and cannot wait to see what is in store for her next (hopefully there will be another book). I was a bit sad at the ending of the fifth book, but I do understand it, even though it frustrates me as well.

Great series! 😍
I loved the members of this Bangor, Maine police investigative team and the plots were all different and engaging. I got a lot of enjoyment and head-scratching suspense, plus some romance on the side. And I liked the plotline about Rebecca's troubled past, her half-brother and her retired police officer father Hank who gives such insightful advice. The author knows how to spin a good yarn and her writing style is clear and unencumbered with excessive description. Altogether a great set of stories!
Thanks to Inkubator Books and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book set; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this captivating eARC.
Detective Rebecca Ellis boxed set
By Robin Mahle
Here are a few of the addictive mysteries contained within this set:
No Safe Place - What do you do when you and everyone you love (and innocent members of your community) are all threatened by a relentless killer or killers whose unfathomable reach extends to those places typically held as the most sacred, safe, and private?
Rebecca and her team face one of their most complex investigations as they work to unmask this threat to everyone in its path, including the lives of Rebecca and her team members.
A Frozen Grave - a murdered man is found in the cold winter woods, with lesions on his body and strange abrasions on his skin. When the team links together other murders at the victim's workplace, the plot thickens as Rebecca and her team take on this twist mystery!
The Dead Lake - Immediately after a couple win a game at a party with other young people on the cusp of adulthood their lives are brutally taken. What occurred and why will no one talk to law enforcement about this "game" that is shrouded in mystery?
I thoroughly enjoyed each of these stories and I will watch for more from this talented author.

This is a great series absolutely loved them all
Had me hooked from the first book
And can’t wait for the next in this series
Thanks NetGalley

Books 1-5 in the Detective Rebecca Ellis Box Set by Robin Mahle are all very engaging and fast paced police procedural/thrillers. All of these books are very well plotted and well written. Each book is a different case so while they can be read as standalone novels, I would highly recommend reading this series in order. Rebecca Ellis is a strong and intelligent main character and I love the way Mahle writes her. These books also feature a very strong supporting cast of secondary characters, so it is very interesting to see how they develop as the story continues book to book. All five of these books are full of twists and the strong, suspenseful and tension filled writing that Mahle is known for. I was absolutely hooked from the first page!
Thank you to NetGalley, Robin Mahle, and Inkubator Books for this ARC. Expected release day is February 16th 2025.
Book 1- No Safe Place- Fast paced and a great introduction to the characters.
Book 2- A Frozen Grave- fast paced but more involved in Ellis's love life and relationships.
Book 3- The Dead Lake- more progression on the relationships.
Book 4- Leave No Trace- fast paced and satisfying with an ominous undertone.
Book 5- No Way Back- More focused police procedural.

If you're looking for a new police procedural/thriller series- I'd highly recommend this. I devoured the whole boxset and really enjoyed the read.
Summary
Story 1 - No Safe Place - 4*
This story introduces Detective Rebecca Ellis and her new partner Euan McCallister, who is hiding a secret from his new team.
When a woman dies in a car fire outside of a church, the detectives quickly realise they have a murder to solve. And it's a case that keeps unravelling.
This was fast paced with twists and turns and a great intro to the characters.
Story 2 - A Frozen Grave - 3.75*
When a man is found dead in the woods, police connect it to his employment and a 20 year cover up. Things become complicated for Ellis because her father worked the original case - and then her best friend is attacked and her father is fighting for his life. Is it all connected? It's a race against time for Ellis to find out.
This was also fast paced and intriguing- it offered a different style case which worked well but a little less mystery.
It also involves more on Ellis's love life and relationship with Hank which I enjoyed.
Story 3 - The Dead Lake - 3.5*
Two high school students are found dead in an icy lake, with evidence pointing to foul play. Ellis and Bryce Pelletier face a wall of silence from classmates until a cryptic social media post reveals a potential motive. Is this tied to a dangerous Spring Break tradition or is something more sinister at play?
Meanwhile, Connor and Euan are trying to trace a deadly drug. I liked seeing Connor and Euan's relationship develop and the idea of a parallel case but the case fell a little flat for me. Also, Euan's secret finally comes to light, can he survive the fallout?
This story progressed the relationships well and I look forward to the next one. However, it feels like every book has a case element which ties to Becca or her family.
Every time I have a soft spot for a character they do something dodgy! I did enjoy this but so far my least fave of the three. I feel it was lacking a good motive or aha moment.
Story 4 - Leave No Trace - 4*
This is another fast paced and satisfying, albeit a little predictable, thriller.
A shadowy figure prowls the night, entering homes to watch unsuspecting residents sleep - it's so creepy and ominous. As subtle signs of intrusion emerge, fear grips the community. The situation escalates when a pet dog is killed as the family sleep upstairs, and soon after, a resident is murdered. Ellis must now stop a faceless predator before more lives are lost.
Story 5 - No Way Back - 3.5*
The fifth in the Rebecca Ellis series this is a more steady paced police procedural.
Detective Rebecca Ellis is on the hunt again, but this time, it's personal. When her half-brother Carter is found murdered on the shores of the Penobscot River, Ellis is determined to uncover the truth. Her investigation leads her deep into a deadly drug cartel, forcing her to navigate a treacherous underworld with partner Euan McCallister and DEA Agent Sean Kroll.
As powerful enemies close in, Ellis must risk everything to bring justice to her brother.
At the same time Connor's secret threatens to come out and he decides it's finally time to address it. I liked this element of the story and seeing Connor grow throughout the series.
This one was an enjoyable read but a little more predictable and less satisfying of an end than the others in the series. However that may be preference as I prefer a murder mystery to a cartel/large scale operation.
**Thoughts**
As a whole these books are suspenseful and full of intrigue. They're fast paced, well plotted and well written. Plus each case is really different which means I was hooked on each and every one.
They're also quick and easy to read without compromising on the plot.
Rebecca Ellis is a strong protagonist and all of the supporting characters are multi-layered - adding to the value of the story. I particularly have a soft spot for Gabby and Bryce Pelletier. I also like how the relationships develop and change as the stories progress - and that there's a little romance splashed in there.
A niggle but the word caught or sentiment of catching up and the phrase mein seem to be used a lot in the earlier stories. Only small but both felt repetitive.
I look forward to more Rebecca Ellis (and gang) books in the future!
Thanks to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Detective Rebecca Ellis is tough and smart. Whether she is trying to solve a crime or struggling with family dysfunction, Rebecca brings all she has to make the right decisions and bring justice. All five books in this collection demonstrate the same level of suspenseful plot and character development that Robin Mahle is known for and make it easy for the reader to transition from one book in the series to the next. I look forward to Book 6 in the series.

I have never read any of this author’s books prior to reading the Detective Rebecca Ellis series, but I definitely will now!
The first 5 books in this series are fantastic, they kept getting better and better as each book went on and we got to learn more about all of the characters. No Way Back had me gripped from the very first page!
When her brother Carter is murdered, Detective Ellis is determined to find his killer - and along the way we got
to learn more about her relationship with Carter, and saw the internal clashing of emotions she had around their relationship and his addiction. The twist was one I did not see coming, and makes you really think about who you can trust.
I also loved the side story of Connor’s, about his torment over his fatal error in his past and how easily things can be covered up by those in power. I can’t wait to see how his story continues in book 6!
5 stars out of 5 ⭐️

An interesting series and quick reading books. I like the characters and story plots. I recommend this book

The Detective Rebecca Ellis Box Set by Robin Mahle delivers a thrilling, fast-paced series filled with suspense, well-crafted characters, and intriguing mysteries. As the daughter of a legendary cop, Detective Rebecca Ellis must navigate the pressure of living up to her father’s legacy while solving complex cases. The series features a its strong female lead, gripping storylines, and tense action that keeps readers hooked. With plenty of twists and turns, it’s a perfect choice for fans of crime thrillers looking for an engaging, high-stakes read.

Well developed police procedural, and plenty to keep you reading for hours. Interesting mix of characters, not always in the right, not always likeable, sometimes looking out for themselves, pretty much reality. The cops are dedicated and sometimes too focused on what they think, also rather realistic. They get the bad guys and some stories weave from book to book, keeps things connected.

"Mahle raises her game with every book in the Detective Rebecca Ellis series! A must-read riveting crime thriller series with a tenacious female detective. A huge fan...please do NOT let this series end! A favorite."
My thoughts...
Even though I have read every book in this razor-sharp, intense, edgy, gritty, and riveting series with twisty plots, smart cop procedurals, a highly relatable female detective, and well-developed characters, Series 1-5 of Detective Rebecca Ellis is a perfect combo of each in one convenient boxed set. I am a huge fan of the author and love her writing style, whether series or standalone.
See my review of each book below. Hopefully, we have not seen the last of Detective Rebecca Ellis, the team, her dad, the town, and the supporting characters. Missing them. I have been invested in these characters since Book One.
Recs...
As I have mentioned in my previous reviews, the Detective Rebecca Ellis series is for fans of the author and those who enjoy Lisa Gardner's Detective DD Warren series, Christina McDonald's Detective Jess Lambert series, Mary Burton, and Willow Rose's Detective Billie Ann Wilde series.
I highly recommend all the books in the series. All FIVE Stars. I look forward to reading her Kate Reid FBI Thriller 1-5 Box Series!

Good concept to get someone involved and tangled in this ongoing storyline.
