Would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this awesome book

When the hostage situation ended in the church and the perp arrested … the body of a young girl was found in the dry wall … thanks to the bullet discharged by the perp

It later came out the young girl had been there for 23 years and had been missing for 8 years prior to that

What followed next was an uncovering of shocking revelations that only this author could produce it was edge of the seat stuff that filled you with horror at the parents suffering for all those years and the shocking cover up of abuse from the church confessionals to a few ignorant villagers who turned a blind eye

Its one of the best reads to date and can’t wait for the next book from this author

This is the 13th book in the Detective Amanda Steele series. I love this series even though I haven’t read them all. The characters are just so loveable and the relationships they have with each other. I love Amanda and Trent as partners. This was an interesting storyline and it’s written in a way that it really builds the suspense. It’s a slower pace to other reads in the series but maybe that’s the point. Definitely recommend and look forward to the next in the series.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review #HiddenAngels

Heart wrenching, twisty, dark, police procedural and more. The prologue had me squirming because sadly things like this happen world wide on continuous bases. It was implied and handled deftly. Detective Amanda Steele is the epitome of working single mothers who lover their child and their job. She is passionate about both and can rush fiercely in instead of waiting. Her partner Trent is just as intense, but a little more laid back. The blurb provides a solid bases of what transpires, but its Amanda and Trents interaction, the way they do their jobs which we get to feel and understand as we go along with them that makes this series stand out. Thank you for the advance copy. I freely share my honest views and opinions. #HiddenAngels #DetectiveAmandaSteele #CarolynArnold #Bookouture #NetGalley

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy of Hidden Angels by Carolyn Arnold
A Detective Amanda Steele Novel.
When a young girls body is found walled in to a church, it's the start have a heart-wrenching case for Amanda and her partner Trent.
The circumstances leading to the discovery are also horrific and Amanda and Trent have to keep their emotions in check.
A rollercoaster of a read, with false leads and red herrings. It kept me reading late into the night.
A worthy addition to the Amanda Steele Series.

What a twisty crime thriller. At the start, I was wondering how why Detective Steele and Stenson were brought in on a hostage situation. Until it is discovered that there is a dead body in the walls of the church. It doesn't take long before the two of them are on immersed in trying to solve what would essentially be considered a cold case since the victim was murdered 23 years ago.

This series just keeps getting better. I love the complicated cases, the dynamics between Steele and Stenson, and how Steele is honest with herself about the struggle of balancing her job and family. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Hidden Angels is the thirteenth book in Carolyn Arnold's Detective Amanda Steele series. As always with a Carolyn Arnold novel, Hidden Angels captivated me from the very first page and never let go. I have read every book in the Detective Amanda Steele series and loved each one.

Hidden Angels kept me glued to the pages as the secrets and suspense poured out page after page. Hidden Angels is a great yet sad story. I love how Carolyn starts with the end and then leads us through how it happened.

In Hidden Angels, an eight-year-old girl was taken in broad daylight while her parents were right there. Twenty-three years later, the girl's body was found inside the wall of a church. The priest was shot in the process, which led to the discovery of the body. Did the shooting of the priest have anything to do with the body in the wall?

Detective Amanda Steele and her partner, Detective Trent Stenson, have a long list of suspects to question, as the priest is not revealing anything about his congregation. Is the priest trying to protect his congregation, or is he covering up for himself? What is going on with this priest? Why was he shot? Who shot the priest?

Amanda and Trent’s investigation uncovers many hidden secrets that do not want to be revealed. Each clue leads to another, and just when you think you have it all figured out bam! You’re turned in another direction, taking you back to where you began, trying to figure out again what happened.

Amanda and Trent’s investigation reveals the girl's life story in the wall and what may have happened to her over the years. Who took the girl and why? I love the profiling aspects of stories like these. I also appreciate how crime scenes have their own stories to tell.

I have to say that Carolyn Arnold is one of the best storytellers I have ever read. Her stories keep me glued to the pages, and once I start reading, I know I won’t be able to stop until I find out what happened. Yes, I know that once I start one of Carolyn’s novels, I’ll be tied up for a while.

I highly recommend Hidden Angels to all crime thriller fans! Grab a copy of Hidden Angels today!

My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Hidden Angels’, book 13 in the Detective Amanda Steele series written by Carolyn Arnold, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

There’s a hostage situation at Herald Church with a gun aimed at Father Linwood and when the bullet hits a drywall it reveals the remains of a young female. Detectives Amanda Steele and Trent Stenson are called in to investigate and with the help of FBI Special Agent Sandra Vos they identify the body of a young girl who was abducted from an amusement park when eight years old, and they have the unenviable task of informing the parents that the body of their daughter has been found after twenty-three years.

‘Hidden Angels’ is another exciting instalment from Detectives Amanda Steele and Trent Stenson of the Prince William County Police Department. Just as they think they’re making headway in the investigation, something else happens that leaves them with more questions than answers and even more suspects. The story gives an interesting insight into Amanda’s family life with her adopted daughter Zoe and her working relationship with Trent, and now that her previous relationship with Logan is over, I’d love to see her and Trent get together on a more romantic basis. This has been a wonderfully addictive thriller that’s had loads of action, drama and suspense, and has had me hooked from page one, with the final surprising twist that I wasn’t expecting. It’s been a thoroughly enjoyable thriller by a very talented author that’s worthy of a huge five stars.

A twisted mystery that began over twenty years ago. A young girl went missing during a family outing, but will her parents every get justice for their little girl? Years later, a young woman’s body will be found hidden and removed from a local church. Detective Amanda Steele and her partner Detective Trent Stenson are called to the scene when a priest had been threatened with a gun. A fired bullet will lead Amanda and Trent into one of their most complicated cases. Slowly they peel away the layers of what happened to the young girl and the abuse she suffered. When they realize that the abusers are beyond the scope of justice, they learn that a second man may have been involved. Another murder and the search for the second man becomes more difficult due to the span of years since the murder. The only witness they have is the young man who was raised in the home and suffers from the results of his own abuse during those years. Dogged determination will lead them to a possible suspect who they believe was involved in covering up the young girl’s death. Just when they think the case is solved, don’t blink as there is more trouble ahead for Amanda and Trent. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. Hidden Angels by Carolyn Arnold features police detective Amanda Steele solving another hideous murder. She is working with her partner, Trent Stenson, for whom she has an undeniable attraction. She has broken up with Logan, with whom she had been in a relationship for several years. Being a cop is hard on relationships. This morning they have been called to a church where a gunman is threatening a priest. He is ranting about the abuse he had suffered and the priest had done nothing to stop it. The police got him under control, but several shots had been fired so Amanda and Trent went in to the church to look around. There was a hole in one wall, and inside that hole there was a dead body. It had been there for years. This discovery was to spread to encompass many people and break hearts.

Amanda is a good character. She tends to push the envelope as a cop sometimes, but always has a reason. Still… She and Trent worked well together, which was a blessing. She had reunited with her family from whom she estranged herself after the death of her husband, daughter, and unborn child. Her father had previously been chief of police and was still close friends with her boss, Malone. This was a sad and heinous crime. It was difficult to investigate as much of it was about children. As always, Arnold puts together a good police thriller. Always an enjoyable read.

Detective Amanda Steele and her team are back with another murder mystery. A crime within a church and a wayward bullet opens a wall. A dusty body is beneath, entombed for decades. DNA testing of today shows who the girl is that disappeared over 30 years ago. Where was she held for the years between her disappearance and her death.
The detective work of discovering clues and following leads was certainly intriguing.
If you love police procedurals and a well written crime story then you're in for a treat. I highly recommend this story and series.

If only the walls could talk… especially the one that a dead girl was encased for two decades,
Amanda and Trent are in the hunt for answers that are quickly adding up to a very sick, sinister story.
I picked up on some of the plot before it was divulged but Sideburn Guy was stubborn to crack.
I hated that Amanda is under scrutiny and has to keep her feelings for Trent at bay.
I thought Trent might be working up to the idea if he and Amanda but Arnold kept me hanging.
After all, as Amanda finds out, we can’t always find the answers we seek.

Amanda and Trent are back with a case that is dark and gripping. This one kept me guessing and up way past my bedtime. It's full of suspense and surprises. I continue to hold out hope on another plot line I have had my fingers crossed for. I can't wait until the next book!

The only thing that would make this book better would have been for Amanda and Trent to end up together. After the body of a young girl is found in the wall of a church, Amanda and Trent must identify her and figure out how she ended up there. What they discover is nothing short of depraved and twisted. The acts of a few long ago have far-reaching effects and consequences on those in the present. Great read!

Amanda and Trent are sent to investigate the case of the body of a teenager found inside a wall in a church. Once the investigation starts they'll face many incongruencies, why did the man that tried to shoot the priest in the church claim the priest is guilty and knew what was going on? What was really going on? Who was the girl? And dig they do, they'll bring to light a kidnapping case together with rape and domestic violence. They'll also see themselves involved with the death of an old woman who saw a box being carried into the church and the kidnapping of her granddaughter. It's a sad and dark story with light parts when Amanda keeps on talking about her daughter Zoe or when she thinks about Trent being more than her partner. Hidden Angels is also well-written, fast-paced and good entertainment!
I thank Ms. Arnold, her publisher, and NetGalley for this ARC.

Book Review: Hidden Angels: A completely addictive and pulse-pounding crime thriller (Detective Amanda Steele Book 13) by Carolyn Arnold

The Girl in the Wall

Amanda and Trent are called to the local Herald Church where a hostage standoff situation has revealed a body sealed in the wall of the nave. After some preliminary investigation, the body is identified as Sadie Jackson, a girl who was abducted from a popular Florida theme park when she was 8 years old. With forensics placing Sadie at about age 16 at the time of death many questions arise as to where she has been all this time. Dealing with a case long gone cold and wanting to get some semblance of closure for Sadie’s parents, the duo set out to try to piece together the girl’s tragic last years that led to her being entombed in the walls of a local church for over two decades. The detectives initially attempt to work with the church leadership to find answers to their questions but with Father Linwood not as forthcoming as they would like him to be they seem to be at a dead end. Eventually, through their hard work links begin to form that tentatively tie the body in the wall to the hostage taker and his deceased parents, but the more Steele follows this trail, the most she does not like what she has uncovered. When a potential eyewitness from 23 years ago comes forward and then turns up dead under mysterious circumstances the duo know they are getting close. As the pieces finally fall in place and the bigger picture is revealed, the truth is even worse than they could have ever expected.

Hidden Angels is the newest in the Detective Amanda Steele series of novels by author Carolyn Arnold. Taking place shortly after Her Deadly Rose Amanda is laser focused on continuing her life with Zoe as a single adoptive parent. Amanda is finding her feet and standing on her own again without the encumbrance of a “significant other” outside of the law enforcement world to cause feelings of guilt for doing her sworn duties. Her feelings for Trent still linger, but as he seems to be going strong with his current girlfriend, there is not much to explore. The duo continues to function as a well-oiled machine, anticipating each other’s thoughts and needs as they investigate the worst of the worst in Prince William County. But this does not come without consequences as her passion and drive has caught the attention of the uppers which has in turn caused her long-time family friend and current police chief to start riding her to do things “by the book” to not jeopardize either of their careers.

Overall, this was a fantastic story. As a native Floridian who has spent many years working in a Florida theme park, I obviously had my own vision of the opening scenes of the book. These personal memories overlaid against Arnold’s narrative really brought Sadie’s abduction to life in a way that invested me into the rest of the story. Arnold does a good job linking a cold case to a current day event and filling in the gaps in such a way that will leave the reader stunned and saddened at the level of evil that exists in the world. While some of the connections weren’t difficult to figure out, that did not diminish their reveal in the story any less.

For long-time fans of Carolyn Arnold and the Amanda Steele as well as new readers to this author Hidden Angels is a fast paced thought provoking adventure that will leave you wanting to know more about Prince William County and her cast of characters. And if you are picking this one up without reading any of the prior installments Arnold has structured this series in such a way that each book can be read as a stand alone case or part of the overarching larger world.

Full disclosure – I was provided with a copy of this book by the author; however, I have voluntarily chosen to write a review. All opinions are my own.

Hidden Angels is scheduled for a February 20 2025 release.
