Bourton Bridge is a story that brings the two main characters, Luke and Jade, together in the perfect romance. The main setting is based very loosely on a very popular Cotswold village, which in itself is a very romantic place.
The story switches from past to present, touching on the subjects of abuse and alcoholism in a sensitive manor, and proves that fate can bring a second chance in life.

I couldn't quite gel with the majority of this book; the author has tried to make it very English, but there are too many American terms and phrases centered around Luke, who is a very English Cotswold person, for example: candy instead of chocolate, traditional shortbread - cookie, postman - mail carrier, to name just a few.
The last twenty percent of the book, when Jade returns to England, was better, but for me, it wasn't enough.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for letting me read a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

Bourton Bridge
by Mia Fox

This captivating novel intertwines dual timelines and explores the theme of second chances, presenting a heartfelt friends-to-lovers romance imbued with emotional depth in nearly all of its characters. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Cotswolds, the story centers on Jade, a woman feeling trapped in a tumultuous marriage. For the sake of her young daughter, she bravely maintains a facade of strength, desperately trying to uphold her vows. However, when her husband’s dubious business dealings culminate in the unexpected purchase of a dilapidated farmhouse nestled in the English countryside, Jade reluctantly follows him, feeling the weight of her obligations.

On the other side of the narrative is Luke, a man who has faced his share of struggles but has mastered the art of masking his pain. As a talented chef working in a charming restaurant in the idyllic village of Bourton Bridge, he channels his energy into his work. This distraction suits him well as he navigates the aftermath of a heartbreak that has left him emotionally scarred and yearning for connection.

Through Jade and Luke's intertwined journeys, the author deftly addresses complex issues such as alcoholism, depression, and abuse, providing a poignant exploration of resilience, healing, and the transformative power of love.

Yes please. I knew I wanted to read this. I knew I'd love it if done as well as I wished it for from the cover and blurb. I can happily say it was perfect.
My favourite books are saga esque...proper good deep books. Rosamund Pilcher stole my heart and starred that off and I'll forever be grateful for her for starting that love for me.
This one doesn't fall short of all those needs. We have picturesque village. A bold but cozy set of characters. We have relatable enoguh but just a bit further so there's a a great story to be told.
She is trapped in a troubled marriage. Run luv, soooo many red flag waving at you! And in his latest dealings she finds herself in a whole new country.

He is in said same country, and same village. Suffering and dealing with his own haunts and pain.
Upon meeting there is more than attraction. There is a.meeting and beginning of a gorgeous relationship. One filled with both give and take from equal sides. One of tender support and awareness. And rooting for them I was! And I had to read on well passed blurb tired eyes to make sure these two would be OK.

Luke and Jade, both with a troubled past and present, meet and begin to heal each other. He is grieving his loved one who died in an accident, and suffering from an abusive father. Jade is married with a young child, and also suffers physical and mental abuse from her husband. Liked this one, but heartbreaking at times. Still though, a hard book to put down and would recommend.
